True, as much as +/- is a faulty indicator for defensive ability, a large number either positive or negative suggests proficiency/deficiency. But he’s added some snarl to his game the past few weeks and he’s only going to get stronger.

Great weekend. Jets win, Iggles lose, Pats lose, Cards win. If Omar signs a good starter today, I’m totally buying a lottery ticket.

Rob Niedermayer? Scott might be a tad ambitious…

First, I said the Rangers version of Nieds, not the next Nieds. Niedermayer’s first full season when he was 19, he went 11 G/29 A in 80 games. He was a +8, but it helps having someone like Stevens anchor the defense. Del Zotto is on pace for the same number of goals and assists in 82 games. His +/- is substantially worse, but unless you consider Redden/Rozsival a steady vet presence, their best defensive D is a 22 year old Marc Staal. Will he win 4 Cups, most likely not. But that won’t mean he won’t develop into a good offensive D with a decent sense of defensive responsibility.

I haven’t paid attention to the Habs in a while, but their game against the Devils on Saturday was a ton of fun. Are their fans always that crazy or just against Brodeur?

Habs fans believe that every great Quebecois player should yearn to play for them. Not doing so is an afront to their franchise. They’ve been practically begging Vinny Lecav to force a trade to Montreal for the past 3 seasons.

    J-E-T-S

I know the Jets have their hands full this weekend. But if you look at the regular season stats I think its closer than it appears.

    OFFENSE
    Total(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 20th/321
    Chargers 10th/360

    Rush(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 1st/172.2
    Chargers 31th/88.9

    Passing(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 31st/148
    Chargers 5th/271

    DEFENSE
    Total(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 1st/252
    Chargers 16th/327

    Rush(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 8th/98.6
    Chargers 20th/117.8

    Passing(NFL rank/YPG)
    Jets 1st/153
    Chargers 11th/209

Jets have the #1 Rush in the NFL, Chargers are 20th in stopping the run.

Chargers are 31st in ruskking offense.

Jets have a shot to pull off the upset. It will be tough but they match up very well.

Wow, file this one under “What the F were you thinking?”

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch reportedly has been accused of stealing $20 from a police officer’s wife.

The Buffalo News reported Saturday on its Web site that a complaint to police said Lynch took money from the woman last month at a restaurant in Hamburg, N.Y.

The woman’s husband, Buffalo Police Sgt. William Crawford, filed the complaint with Hamburg police a day after, but they delayed giving a statement to detectives until Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred Dec. 7.

Hamburg police declined to comment but confirmed that Crawford made a complaint.

Woodson also stripped the ball from Fitzgerald for a game changing turnover.

Anyways, I’ve been fighting with my family over the Chargers all year: they have a bad run defense and a bad running game. Strengths versus Strengths.

Clow, to be fair, Fitzgerald got away with murder both times he lost Woodson.
Revis is but one man, Sheppard is toast, and Rhodes – did he do anything vs. Cin? And who can stick with Gates? The Bolts will score — Jones, Smith and Greene will have to do their thing for the Jets to keep up.

But Chargers have a prolific passing game. And if the Jets blitz doesn’t get there in time then they will get carved up. Also, Rex can’t get too blitz happy. I can see a screen pass or two by LT or Sproles (sp?) going for big yards.

Rave, I know. The Chargers offense is nasty. But just their passing. I will admit I haven’t watched much of them this season but the stats show them as #31 in rushing offense. And they have LT and Sproles (sp?). I was surprised by that stat. I’m guessing their O line is either undersized and/or had some injuries. If that’s the case the Jets won’t have to worry as much about the run and can focus more on the backfield and exotic packages. Rex says every year nobody wants to play his defense in week 1 of the regular season just because they have no clue what they are going to get. Remember Week #1 the Jets destroyed the Texans at Houston. Schaub had no clue what was coming or what type of coverage they were throwing at him. And Texans winded up with the #1 passing attack in the NFL (Chargers #5) I’m not saying the Jets are going to win, but if they play crisp and don’t commit any costly turnovers they have a decent shot at the upset.

FYI – Ravens beat the Chargers this year and Cincy had the ball late in the 4th with an opportunity to take the lead.

The offense is one dimensional and its basically one dimensional by choice though. A lot of short yardage plays to the backs to keep the defense semi-honest.

I don’t understand why they don’t give more carries to Michael Bennett. Defenses have keyed in on Sproles when he gets the ball out of the backfield and LT looks like a shadow of his former self.

Look, gain some reading comprehension. Where do I say he shouldn’t play or that he isn’t fair game? I was impressed with his ability to still play. One INT wasn’t his fault and neither was the fumble. Joe Flacco led his team into the second round? What, by handing the ball off? I could have put up Flacco’s stats!

4/10 34 yards. 1 INT. Really? He led his team? They won despite him. Do you know anything about sports or do you just like to talk about whatever?

So unclutch. Every knows you name former LLWS stars as the Captain.

Just odd that you’d invite him as a guy with veteran leadership and then you don’t even give him a leadership role.

    McGwire admits steroids use

    Associated Press

NEW YORK — Mark McGwire finally came clean Monday, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball’s home run record in 1998.

McGwire said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

“I wish I had never touched steroids,” McGwire said in a statement. “It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”
