You know what I don’t get about the whole gun-professional athlete thing???

Never once have I read or heard of an instance where an athlete carrying a gun has saved someone from a violent situation. All that I hear about is how athletes carrying concealed firearms causes confusion or disaster for the very gun owner who cannot protect himself from his own excessiveness.

Makes me wonder if these pro-athletes should rethink their own approach to self-protection.

Action movie icon Sylvester Stallone broke his neck while filming a fight scene in his latest film, it was revealed Wednesday.

Stallone was hurt shooting a scene with former wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin for action movie The Expendables which is set for release this summer.

Shooting for the film began in March 2009, but news of Stallone’s injury was only just released.

“My fight was so vicious I got a hairline fracture in my neck. I had to have a very serious operation,” Stallone said.

The Expendables also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke.

Definitely Jets, CLow! Truthfully, I’m not a football fan. And I rarely watch. But I’m warming up to the sport little by little. I think it is the Metsgeek influence.

I grew up in New Jersey, so I’ve always had a casual interest in both the Jets and the Giants. But since the Giants Super Bowl win, I’ve slowly developed a small preference for the Jets. I guess I thought they needed more support! ;-)

I’m actually getting a little excited about this weekend’s game. Possibly more than any football game in my memory. (But that’s not saying much!) ;-)

Even I admit Jeter is a HOF..and Im one of his biggest detractors..I love how AROD finally carried the Yanks, and Jeter gets named MOTY…what a friggin joke..

He is their modern day mantle..boy wouldnt you love to see him and Luis pull guns on each other?

  54. Comment posted by C needs a LOWenbrau on January 6, 2010 at 9:40 pm (#1131538)

Alomar was horrendous as a met. I thought that was the best trade ever. I watched every game back then. Alomar became afraid of the ball in the box and in the field. He was petrified when hitting righty. Curious: what was his #s righty as a Met?

  55. Comment posted by dogcatcher on January 6, 2010 at 9:45 pm (#1131539)

    Alomar Clev OPS+ 150

    Next year with Mets 89

    Unbelievable

  56. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on January 6, 2010 at 9:45 pm (#1131540)

Alomar sucked balls as a Met but he was already a HOF when he got here IMO. Of course Jeter is HOF but then so is Alomar cause they were similar offensive players in their prime and Robbie was the best fielding second baseman ever probably.

No doubt. Alomar was the man and had all of the tools before he became a met. I remember watching him in awe, the same way I did watching Jordan.

  62. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on January 6, 2010 at 9:52 pm (#1131545)

Larkin is an interesting case, to me in his in the Nomar class of hurt too much but he was a terrific player when healthy.

  63. Gravatar
  64. Comment posted by Future on January 6, 2010 at 9:54 pm (#1131546)

I think Larkin is better because while he was hurt a lot when he was out there he always produced. Nomar’s injuries really messed him up to the point where most of his career post Red Sox he looked worthless.

  65. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on January 6, 2010 at 9:54 pm (#1131547)

Edgar Martinez should be in if any DH is ever getting in. I’m sick of talking about Blylevin who should be obviously in by now.

  66. Comment posted by dogcatcher on January 6, 2010 at 9:55 pm (#1131548)

Larkin was an incredible team leader too…he was kind of like the Messier of the Reds…that counts for something in my mind

  67. Comment posted by dogcatcher on January 6, 2010 at 9:56 pm (#1131549)

Agreed on Ed-GAR..he was a dominant hitter during his time…and if someone who is a great hitter and a crappy fielder can get in, I cant imagine why a DH shouldnt

  68. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on January 6, 2010 at 9:58 pm (#1131550)

Not only that Edgar was a decent defensive 3rd baseman when he played there. Seattle just wanted to maximized his health so they made him a DH. Big Papi he is not.

  71. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on January 6, 2010 at 10:00 pm (#1131552)

Papi isn’t getting in because of steroids and Edgar was better than Papi IMO.

  92. Comment posted by Joe A. on January 6, 2010 at 10:38 pm (#1131564)

I wouldn’t have voted for Edgar. He had great rate stats, but he counting stats don’t measure up. And if you don’t contribute on defense or on the base paths, your offensive numbers really would have to blow me away to get my vote.

But I also think the standards for the Hall are too low. There are a lot of guys in the hall who I don’t think belong.

Alomar is a no brainer though. And I think Larkin belongs.

Their barbs escalated to a point where Arenas, smiling, said he would blow up Crittenton’s car, according to two players on the flight, who requested anonymity. Crittenton replied that he would shoot Arenas in his surgically repaired knee.

Walking into the locker room by himself two days after the dispute on the team plane, according to two witnesses, Arenas laid out the guns in Crittenton’s locker. Two other teammates eventually sauntered in and, while Arenas was writing the note in front of Crittenton’s cubicle, in walked Crittenton, according to their account.

Asking Arenas what he was doing, Arenas replied, “If you want to shoot me, I’d just thought I’d make it easy for you.” As other teammates laughed, Crittenton crumpled up the paper, tossed one of Arenas’s guns across the room, where it bounced in front of a team trainer, and said he didn’t need any of Arenas’ firearms because he had his own, according to the witness accounts.

Crittenton then drew his weapon, loaded the clip into the chamber and cocked the bar, the witnesses said.

Neither witness said the gun was ever pointed at Arenas, but both said Crittenton began singing as he held the gun.

Well if they complained to you about my guess it was using your PC to attack someone site with constant traffic and take it down or to distribute child porn. The first is a pain for them the other has legal implications.

All I care about is my boy Yip got another assist!
