Seriously, if you ask him, he’d probably give you some shit about players not being as good as the one he watched as a youngster blah blah blah blah.

He’s younger than my father for fuck’s sake! I mean, what era would that be?!? There’s no excuse for him not taking part in this. After all, he couldn’t possibly have done a worse job than any of the other voters. The best second baseman of the 1990’s? NOT IN! Please.

Giants signed K Sam Swank to a reserve/future contract.
Swank went undrafted in 2009 out of Wake Forest. The 24-year-old old will be a big long shot to unseat starter Lawrence Tynes during the offseason.

    hmmmmmmm

David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that the Phillies have touched base with the agents for free agent right-handers Ben Sheets and Chien-Ming Wang.
Murphy heard the news directly from Ruben Amaro Jr., but notes there’s no indication that anything will happen on either front. Sheets, who missed the entire 2009 season with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow, is believed to be seeking a big-money contract, while Wang, fresh off shoulder surgery, isn’t expected to contribute until May at the earliest.

According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, the Red Sox only added $2 million to the 2010 payroll for luxury tax purposes after signing Adrian Beltre and trading Casey Kotchman to the Mariners for Bill Hall.
It’s some pretty clever maneuvering. The $5 million player option for Adrian Beltre is key, as it pulls his average annual value to $7 million per season. With that contract in place, the Red Sox agreed to trade Kotchman — likely to make $3.5 million in arbitation — to the Mariners for Hall, whose contract averages $6 million per season. In turn, the Mariners will kick in around $7.5 million as part of the trade, which will be deducted from the Red Sox payroll for luxury tax purposes. Add it all up and the Red Sox were able to sign Beltre and acquire Hall for just around $2 million. Not bad, Theo. Not bad at all.

I don’t have a problem with somebody returning a blank ballot. If he didn’t think anybody on teh ballot deserved to be in he shouldn’t vote for anybody.

I don’t know how you can justify not voting for Alomar, but he is really the only guy on the ballot this year who seemed like a no brainer to me.

Marioti’s ballot is easier to justify than somebody who left Alomar off but voted for other people.

Arguably the best second baseman of his generation was on that ballot. I’m sorry, but he needs to get that ballot in. As for the dbags that didn’t vote for him, they need to get over whatever it is that they are holding against him. There are bigger assholes in the HOF than Roberto Alomar. Vote him in already.

I would have voted for Alomar, Larkin and Dawson. Maybe Raines, not Blyleven.

Anybody who thought Alomar wasn’t the most deserving on the ballot this year shouldn’t have a vote.

But 26% of the voters left Alomar off their ballot – and all but 5 of those voted for other guys.

Hutch gets a quote from someone with information about David Harris that it’s a pretty sure bet he’ll be playing for the Jets this weekend.

Harris, who was injured in the Jets’ 37-0 win over the Bengals on Sunday, didn’t practice Tuesday.

‘‘It’s just a mild sprain,’’ said one person. ‘‘He’s going to go. He’ll be out there on Saturday.’’

Good news, but no one’s put their name behind it, so it’s only worth that much.

    F YEAH!!!

Jets linebacker David Harris has a ‘‘mild’’ right ankle sprain and will play on Saturday against the Bengals in their wild-card rematch, according to two people with knowledge of the injury who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to speak publicly.

Harris, who was injured in the Jets’ 37-0 win over the Bengals on Sunday, didn’t practice Tuesday.

‘‘It’s just a mild sprain,’’ said one person. ‘‘He’s going to go. He’ll be out there on Saturday.’’

Harris, who is a key clog in the Jets run defense, has a team-high 142 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks and an interception this season.

In a bit of gamesmanship, coach Rex Ryan has been coy about Harris’ status.

The American Girl Place?? Go early in your day and try to arrive in a gooood mood. That place is insane. I was there the week after Christmas and it is a nightmare. But your girls will be dazzled, so that is likely to put a smile on your face. ;-)

    yep.

Sadly, we have lunch there at I think 2 pm.
We are of course going early, since grandma is buying my youngest her first doll (she did the same for my oldest on her 5th b-day).
We are going to buy her some accessories to go with it.
And of course, we have to buy the oldest something as well (as a gift for helping out the babysitter with her sister while the wife and I were out on the boat last weekend)

Gonna be a long expensive day.
But, like you said, the girls will love it, and that frankly is all that matters.

    Rubles?

I think this a bigger deal than Artest and Spree. The guys have got to stop waving around handguns. It’s insane.

he’s just being made an example of now. he’d get a regular 10-game suspension without the tweets and the shit-talking to stern and pantomiming gun play and stuff

i guess i just think actually physically causing serious harm to someone is different from a guy just being a moron in a semi-dangerous fashion

I hear you. Both of you. But I don’t think that guns are semi-dangerous. Much easier to kill someone, or yourself, doing something inane with a gun than to kill someone with your bare hands.

But you’re right. It would be more in line of making an example of someone. So it’s not illegal to bring the guns into the locker room?

The description is the best part. But it made my stomach hurt a little. Where is Jose???!!! Did I miss him?

it’s against something in the collective bargaining agreement and yes def illegal

and of course i’m not saying guns aren’t dangerous, but the suspension seems so much more about his antics than anything

I’m sure you’re right, DL. As you might now, I don’t follow basketball at all. So I’ll defer to your read of the situation.

But this handgun thing among our young men is makes me crazy. I hate the waste. But you’re correct. There’s no reason why he should be made to pay for it by all himself, simply because he is a horse’s ass. ;-)

Stern is in a tough position because the NFL upped the ante on dealing with gun offenses in the Plax case. He really needs to come down on Arenas just as hard or he’s going to come off as being weak on guns.

And the Caps would be thrilled to have a way out of that contract, too.

MFBS – I can go see the Isles pwn the Rangers anyway. She knows I love that.
