cerrone thinks pitching is a’coming next week

Fuck Cerrone. What does he know? I know he likes to act like a journalist with all of his “sources”. But his ability to grasp the FO future planning means caca to me.

I know he wants Sheets, but at this point I wouldn’t go near him unless he was really, really cheap – like Troy Glaus cheap. Spring Training starts in what, 6 weeks? And Sheets isn’t throwing off a mound yet? He’s more than just an injury “risk” at this point – I will be shocked if he is ready to start the season on time. And then he’s probably going to be a 5 inning pitcher until he builds up his stamina.

So to me, best case scenario is you get 1/2 a season of the #2 starter Sheets everyone is hoping for. And worse case is you get nothing from him.

then i want an upside chance taken

I hope they have the balls to give F! a shot if Frenchy reverts to his replacement level blumpkin by July

I just hope F! is healthy enough to play by July.

I refuse to worry about Frenchy Love until there is something to worry about. Everyone was giggling about the multi-year deal Omar and SOF were supposedly itching to give to him, and I see no indication it’s going to happen. He’s just keeping Fernando’s spot warm. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

At best, Frenchy will be an average player imo. OPS+ of 100-105. He had an OPS+ w/ us of 120, which is a pipe dream. I think the high bar set for him in ATL messed with his head. I remember when they sent him down to the minors for a month to get his head straight, then calling him back up 3 days later after 2 games because of the pr nightmare it caused. Probably the greatest athlete in Prep history in ATL

I would rather Bedard than Sheets based on Sheets’ contract demands.

I’ll take Piniero or Garland on a Marquis-type deal.

And a lot of these pitchers we keep hearing about who are going to be FAs in 2011 figure to be on the trading block in July, so maybe you get an innings eater now and hope you can make a big trade mid-season if you’re in contention.

There is a show called Tosh .0 on Comedy Central where the host cracks on stupid web videos. On the show they offer what is called a “web redemeption” which gives people who’ve made viral asses out of themselves on Youtube a chance to do over many of the embarrassing moments they’ve been videotaped doing. Well, the Afro-Ninja who messed up the nunchucks flip got a chance to do it over and (finally) got it right.

Good for him, I say. He seemed to have alot more talent than any of those other jokers in the video compilation…

He made Cheechoo into a good winger for a couple of years, now look at him.

Heatley would be good with almost anyone, but he did have Spezza setting him up and Alfredsson drew a lot of attention in OTT, but he’s still a top 5 scorer either way.

Cheechoo had one great season that corresponded with Thornton getting a crazy amount of assists and taking the MVP away from Jagr. As far as I could tell, once Cheechoo started sucking Thornton didn’t have nearly as good seasons.

Suddenly, he gets Heatley and BOOM he’s an MVP again? Heatley is a goal scoring machine, with or without a playmaker. He’s making Thornton look like an MVP, not the other way around.

Thornton is just a taller, luckier Craig Janney.

So you’re saying you wouldn’t take him on the Rangers over any of the current centermen? He’s not the best player in the league that’s for sure but he opens up the ice and is tough as hell to get the puck away from. And he’s been a better than point per game player since he’s been in SJ.

They consider it the best song they ever wrote.

I think he’s a very good player and a gifted playmaker. That being said, he’s incredibly one dimensional. Would I love to see him on the Rangers, yeah. Imagine how many goals Gaborik would get. My point is that somehow when he plays with a gift winger, he is an MVP and I don’t get it.

ha, it was a semi-big deal back in college that bad religion’s lead singer was a grad student at cornell

I doubt he gets the MVP this year. I think his flops in the playoffs (which technically should have no bearing on an MVP vote) have turned people against him. Marleau is having a hell of a year too. Hilarious if they choke again, would somehow make me feel better about the Mets.

Opinion: Luis Castillo, the Mets and Orlando Hudson

    Quote:

Yet again, like last off season, Orlando Hudson is clearly sitting on the sidelines, waiting to see what the Mets do with Luis Castillo.

It’s not surprising that the Mets are having a difficult time moving Castillo. The team who might be willing to swap salary now knows the Mets want to move him. At the same time, any team who actually needs a second baseman can just sign Felipe Lopez, or, for that matter, sign Hudson, who, at this point, might be lucky to get the type of deal he signed last off season, i.e., one year, maybe $3 million and with a lots of incentives.

Frankly, if Hudson’s market is really that weak, and his demands are that low, and if the Mets really want him, because they think he can significantly upgrade their infield defense and thus help bring confidence to the pitching staff, I think they should just sign him and put Castillo on the bench.

He has a PhD, so all his lyrics must be true then…

Gregory Walter Graffin (born November 6, 1964 in Racine, Wisconsin) is an American punk rock musician and college professor. He is most recognized as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the noted Los Angeles band Bad Religion, which he co-founded in 1980 and has been its only continual member. Graffin obtained his Ph.D. at Cornell University and has lectured courses in life sciences and paleontology at the University of California, Los Angeles.

FWIW, these are the CHONE projections for 2B:

Luis Castillo: 1.3 WAR, $6.1 million value
Felipe Lopez: 2.2 WAR, $9.8 million value
Orlando Hudson: 2.2 WAR, $10.0 million value

So the difference between Castillo & Hudson is about 1 win and $4 million (if you go by the CHONE projections).

We could have had Hudson for what we paid Cora + a few Shake Shack burgers.

(Yes, that Cora signing still ticks me off)

Yep, the glut in the second base market makes giving Cora $2 million all the more ridiculous.
