Higher than the odds of Bay’s press conference being used to announce Castillo’s dumping.

I read that the Red Sox had talked to the Mets about sending Mike Lowell to us for Luis Castillo.
They were willing to pick up most of his contract in teh Max Ramirez deal – but that was bringing no salary back.
It wouldn’t be bad having Lowell platoon with Murphy at first, and we could sign Hudson or someone with range for second base.
Lowell is earned a decent chunk this year, but nothing in 2011.

I could deal with Lowell at first for one season if it rids us of Castillo. But that deal doesn’t make any sense for Boston. They already are set at middle infield.

Yeah, well have the Mets realized that every single mention of a winter classic in NY has been at Yankee Stadium?

As cool as the idea is, don’t do a winter classic in either Yankee or Citi, do it in Central Park. Baseball stadiums sightlines do not match those for hockey. Even the field level seats are still much further away from the rink than a hockey-fit arena provides.

but if he sucks and averages 140 over 4 we’re stuck with the 17mm salary at age 35!?!?

No. 600 plate appearances in year 4 or 500 in both of years 3 and 4. The first 2 years don’t affect whether the option vests.

Yeah, well have the Mets realized that every single mention of a winter classic in NY has been at Yankee Stadium?

That was OYS, which is gone.

Wang and Fred have spoken to Bettman about Citi hosting a game.

Of course, Bettman will probably have it being Rangers vs anyone except the islanders.

some napkin calcs suggest if he plays 160 each of the first three seasons we’ll need to keep him to 80 games in the forth to stop the vesting

Mrs. Lippy is apoplectic that Cablevision has pulled Food Network and HGTV in a fee dispute. We may be going the AT&T U-Verse route.
