Arms for the Poor . . .

With the likes of Fernando, Wilmer, Jeffrey Marte, Reese Havens & Nick Evans the Mets have a solid chance of developing a couple of homegrown impact bats in the near future.  Given the state of the current rotation what about guys to stop the other teams bats?

At first blush it looks like we’re going to need patience or trades.  Not much starting pitching on the farm is off to any kind of dominant start.

No one has yet hrown more than 18 innings but the best across the board numbers come from a 23 year old at low-A Savannah.  That will change but mid-season help for the ’09 rotation seems unlikely.

Conversely, the pitching poor Phils have 3 guys who are both blowing away the competition and either young or the right age for their leagues.

Even with the poor era/whip dillon gee at least has a storng bb/k. I guess the question is how useful is control with a lack of stuff in the majors. Is he going to keep walks done but give up a lot of hard hit balls?

Also Scott Shaw seems to be doing pretty well, although I guess he is a little old for A+.
