    Heyman’s Latest: Yankees
By Cork Gaines [January 7 at 9:21pm CST]

Jon Heyman chimes in with a few notes on the Yankees…

    * Heyman confirms that the Yankees are accepting trade offers for Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher.
    * The Yankees have “no way to trade” Hideki Matsui, noting that he is coming off a knee surgery and has a full no-trade clause.
    * Heyman also says the Yankees will not trade Johnny Damon saying the team needs him to leadoff and play center field.

What’s not to understand? You lay the cute chicks down. You oil them up. You slide on them.

    I approve.

he Red Sox are working towards an agreement with free agent John Smoltz, the Boston Globe reports.
According to the report, “sources indicated that Smoltz was leaning toward Boston’s offer, which was said to be somewhere in the vicinity of $5.5 million guaranteed with the opportunity to earn a few million in incentives which could hike the salary up to $10 million.” Even though he’ll probably miss the first six to eight weeks, he seems like a very good gamble at that price.

That seems like a very good price for Smoltz, no?

9:58pm: MLB.com’s Mark Bowman says Smoltz will call the Braves tomorrow morning to tell them he will sign with Boston. The incentives in the deal are said to be “very attainable.” Does this push Tim Wakefield to the bullpen during the summer? It’s a good problem to have.

That’s weak, man. These guys make more than enough to be able to roll down that sun roof and fill that fucker to the brim with popcorn. Shit, I would have arranged to drop his shit in an in ground pool, fill the car with popcorn, then fill the pool with popcorn.

    Now THAT is a prank.

I think it was Boston, Atlanta, or bust. Red Sox are taking a calculated risk, he *just* started throwing again. He may never be ready this year.

I didn’t think ATL had much of a chance. I don’t think they ever seriously said, “We want you back.”
