It was a showdown to cherish for critics of Wall Street’s culture of enrichment. The grim-faced boss of the bankrupt bank Lehman Brothers was left squirming yesterday as a veteran Democrat roasted him over his multimillion-dollar pay. With the startled look of a man unaccustomed to sharp examination, Lehman chief executive Richard Fuld clashed bluntly with the chairman of the House oversight committee, Henry Waxman, on Capitol Hill.

“Your company is now bankrupt and our country is in a state of crisis,” said Waxman, a liberal from California. “You get to keep $480m. I have a very basic question: Is that fair?” After a long pause, Fuld said the figure was exaggerated: “The majority of my compensation, sir, came in stock. The vast majority of the stock I got I still owned at the point of our [bankruptcy] filing.”

Waxman cut him off, saying that even if the figure was slightly lower, it was “unimaginable” to much of the public. “Is that fair, for a CEO of a company that’s now bankrupt, to make that kind of money? It’s just unimaginable to so many people.”

apparently, he was puched while working out in the company gym.

Okay, unless I’ve gone plum crazy, Santana’s shutout gives Athena 10 correct answers; John and Lunkwill have nine.

Athena picked Heilman for vultured win, and John and Lunk picked Wagner. So, if Wags heals up in time to beat Heilman to the punch, there could be a three-way tie, which Lunk would win.

If Simons is not plum crazy - then yes. Poor Wagner. :-(

I would gladly trade my purely symbolic e-prize to have had Wagner back to get the vulture win.

    :weeps bitterly:

Nice sluething Geeks. Sorry work called me away from giving ya more clues.

I’ve been defending Aaron for more than 3 years now, but to be fair, I lurked a lot for the first year or so.

As for the Aaron discussion, I’m not a fan of WPA as a stat of quality. It’s a good as gauge of emotional response, but it’s far too much about “clutch” performance. If you want to talk about a “win” stat, I think WSAB is a better stat, and it shows that Aaron had 12 WSAB from ‘05 to ‘07, pretty darn good for a setup reliever.

I wouldn’t have even thought to google it, but I saw some discussion of googled solutions in one of the link dump threads. I blame those people for tempting me with easy solutions (although I probably spent like 3 hours trying to solve it before googling).

Athena, I had that happen on a couple of the puzzles in the 20s. I got stuck, walked away for an hour or so, came back, and was able to do it. I don’t know what I did differently, but it just worked. 16 was different though, no matter how many times I fiddled with it, that sucker was not cooperating.

After much deliberation, FX has canceled “The Riches.”

Net took several months to make a decision but finally came to the conclusion that falling ratings were too much to overcome. Viewer totals for the series, which ran for two seasons, dropped substantially in year two, falling 44% in the 18-49 demo.

Premiering in March 2007, “The Riches” got off to a somewhat healthy start with a 1.9 rating/5 share in the demo, and 3.84 million viewers overall, but slipped after that. Due to the writers strike, the second season was shortened from 13 episodes to seven and ended in April.

The series starred Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, the parents of a family of gypsies who move into a wealthy suburban Louisiana neighborhood under a new identity. Critical acceptance of the show was mixed, but Driver did earn Emmy and Golden Globe noms.

On Monday, FX reupped their newest drama series “Sons of Anarchy” for a second season and recently launched the fourth season of comedy skein “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Newest laffer “Testees,” about a pair of human guinea pigs, premieres Thursday.

Net is also in the final year of “The Shield,” which closes its seven-season run on Nov. 25. The high costs of marketing and producing all its series — including “Damages,” which returns in 2009 — played into the equation of canceling “The Riches.”

“The Riches” was produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Prods.

Showrunner Dmitry Lipkin is currently attached to HBO’s dark comedy “Hung,” about a well-endowed man.

Think Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian are the only ones with NFL boyfriends? Well, I think you are forgetting about one very important C+ actor on a hit network drama who leaves his wife and kids every weekend to go cheer on his boyfriend who is on an NFL west coast team.

New York Mets pitcher Ambiorix Burgos turned himself in on Tuesday, a week after police say he was involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed two women.

Authorities were interviewing him, prosecutor Raul Quiroz told The Associated Press.

The news comes after the mother of one of the two victims accused Burgos of intentionally running her daughter over because she refused to go out with him.

Eudosia Ruane, mother of 29-year-old Angely Fana, told the AP she filed a report with police alleging homicide.

An arrest warrant had been issued for the 24-year-old reliever, who disappeared after the Sept. 30 accident that killed Fana and Josefina Minaya, 38. Burgos is accused of abandoning the victims and fleeing, charges that can carry six months to two years in prison.

Witnesses say Burgos was the driver, even though his cousin claimed to be behind the wheel, according to police.

Burgos also faces an unrelated charge of illegal weapon possession and had recently been released after posting a $3,000 bond.

He also has an Oct. 23 court hearing in the U.S. stemming from assault and harassment charges filed after he allegedly threw his girlfriend to the ground.

Burgos has not appeared in Major League Baseball since last year and spent the past season on the disabled list following elbow ligament replacement surgery. He pitched in the minors last month while on a rehabilitation assignment.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is shooting down plastic surgery rumors about her curvy figure with photo ‘proof.’

On her blog, the 28-year-old posted a bikini-clad photo of herself at age 14.

“I hope after seeing this you guys will never ask me a plastic surgery question again,” Kardashian wrote. “I have had a size C since I was 11 years old!”

Regarding her most famous asset, Kardashian wrote, “All the butt implant rumors are just so not true and now just silly to me.”
