And someone said part of the deal was that Jerry gets to pick his own coaches. That should be interesting if true. Get rid of that moron at 3rd base. I’m still mad he didn’t send Delgado last Wednesday night. Ugh!

    The bailout passed.

Luis Aguayo cost us at least two games this season, maybe three. He was honestly the difference between making the playoffs and not making it.

If Jerry keeps him, I am going to write a letter per day demanding his ouster. The entire staff needs to go.

This is good news. I don’t think we’ll see the whole group of coaches go.

I have to say I was not impressed with Manuel as a “field general” and I did not, for the most part, like the way he handled the pitching staff. That said, I wish him well and hope that I’m wrong.

You guys, though, are correct - he must get rid of Aguayo if he, indeed, is given the power to chose his own staff…, something, by the way, that Willie was never given.

    It’s… not… bad news, I guess.

He’s an acceptable manager if not a spectacular one.

Better keep him than get stuck with a dude with NO managerial skills who gets by on his very bad Joe Torre impression.

    Slide into second, my ass.

Forget the letter, J.D., file an injunction!

I really can’t blame him for the handling of the pitching staff. Our pen sucked and no manager could of dealt well with that B.S.

    It’s true.

When your closer’s last job was as the mop-up man for the Washington Expos, there’s kind of no way to blame the coaching staff for that.

You can only blame, uh, the guy who DIDN’T get lowballed for his contract to start with. Y’know.

What about Warthen’s poor track record as a MLB pitching coach? Not so heartening.

I don’t know how much of this can be pegged to the Warthog.

Of the pitchers, everyone who wasn’t hurt, too green or would’ve sucked with any pitching coach… did pretty well.

Now, granted, only a few of the pitchers fit that criteria. But still.

If that is indeed true and Leo Mazzone is available, the Mets should grab him!!

I have no problem with Hojo and the Alomars Sr/Jr sticking around. The rest can go.

I wonder if part of the “snag” to his deal was whether or not they’d let Jerry choose his own coaches?

I was kinda hoping they’d get rid of Manuel. Look, yes the team did turn around in record once Randolph was gone, but was it because of Jerry or was it because there was no Willie. I’m not so quick to assume that Manuel has everything to do with the New York Mets turn around.

Look honestly, bring Big Bird into the manage I don’t care, just get rid of Heilman.

No they shouldn’t. Probably one of the most overrated people in baseball. Look at his track record. His biggest success was the big 3 of Glavine, Smoltz and Avery and that was over 15 years ago now. The one thing he did prove was his ability to take scrubs and make them decent pitchers again and he hasn’t done that since the late 90s.

The Brave fans did not like him towards the end of his tenure. They noted his inability to relate to young pitchers was his biggest problem. He also felt everyone needed to buy into his style, just like Rick Peterson to me.

Honestly, we need a guy who works on the strengths of his pitchers.

Totally agree, Chris. Leo Mazzone is a definite no!
I’m not sure why Warthen has to go. He certainly wasn’t at fault for the bullpen. That group needed a shrink and not a pitching coach. They were all head cases!

If Jerry really does get full authority to choose his coaches, it’ll be interesting to see what he does. As to the man himself, the team certainly lightened up, and performed better under him. How much of that was simply addition by subtraction - anyone but Willie - is hard to gauge. But from the public statements that have been made, it sounds like he’s pretty popular in the clubhouse without being a pushover, so that’s something.

His game management was perhaps not as inspired as someone like Bobby V, but clearly better than Willie. Of course, that leaves an opening you could drive a truck through, but I’d say it was at least adequate.

All in all, I’m OK with him staying, and I have not been able to say that about a Mets manager after a season in a very, very long time.
