I kind of feel bad for Sosa. His career was slipping away and he probably got desperate.

I don’t know how much I can blame dudes like him.

i definitely feel bad for sosa, i had a soft spot for him despite how much he sucked

A-Rod that lovable guy on the play from the other night.

“There was a delay because I didn’t know where the ball was,” Rodriguez said, adding that he initially thought it was a foul ball. “Usually when there’s a lack of hustle, it’s not in the ninth inning down by one. Whoever is saying that doesn’t know about baseball. That doesn’t bother me one bit.”

  6. Comment posted by Danny on August 21, 2008 at 11:44 pm (#813460)

Sosa took the ball every time we asked. We fucking killed him and he never complained.

Glad you’re better, Dep. But get some rest, k?

And I’m going to take my own advice. I can’t believe how late it is. Nice win and thanks for the fun chat!

    Good night my geeks!

    a couple of random thoughts

DW’s fat-boy slip-n-slide was the coolest thing ever. reminiscent of jose’s inside the parker last year (i think), the one where he layed on the plate for a few seconds too. pure sweetness

delgado 5-5. wow. that last one was not a hit though! funny stuff. they could have called an error on the play at first, i dont think he ever touched the base though.

ayala looked pretty good. i like him. good stuff

Oh man, Delcos got fired. Lame. Why does he lose his job when bums like Hat Guys and Matthews keep theirs?

Delcos deserved to get axed. He is a symbol of whats wrong with the press here in NYC. What did the paper go into cost cutting mode. None of these papers are making money.

wow, he really got fired? damn. that’s surprising

  17. Comment posted by Danny on August 21, 2008 at 11:49 pm (#813471)

DW got so lucky because he would have gotten doubled off if the LF didn’t lose the ball in the lights

I have to agree with this. I don’t wish for anyone to get fired, but i wont miss him

    absolutely. crazy play

  20. Comment posted by Danny on August 21, 2008 at 11:51 pm (#813474)

Delcos probably got fired because he flamed Omar for the Church thing and lost access.

    Just my hunch.

Yeah he’s probably a good guy away from work and I feel for him as a human being and all but I can’t take his “reporting”.

  22. Comment posted by Jessica on August 21, 2008 at 11:53 pm (#813476)

I tend to agree with the Doc/mookie school of thought on Delcos.

  23. Comment posted by mookie03 on August 21, 2008 at 11:53 pm (#813477)

agreed doc. he really seemed to hate the mets too. I didn’t read him too much though, i like adam rubin a lot more

    Just my hunch.

If that’s the reason then he did a noble thing because the Mets needed to get skewered about that. I would certainly be ironic.

I don’t think so, with the slide and everything and the awkward dive-thingy, DW might have been able to get back to second in time.

  26. Comment posted by sarah on August 21, 2008 at 11:54 pm (#813480)

I finally saw the full highlight from DW’s grand belly flop into home. It’s all it was cracked up to be!

  27. Comment posted by Danny on August 21, 2008 at 11:55 pm (#813481)

If he didn’t lose it in the lights the LF wouldn’t have done the awkward dive thingy, and David would have been easily doubled off.

Craig: Thanks for asking. I was laid off yesterday by the Journal News. Economic reasons, they say. I was one of a dozen or so to get it. Don’t ask me to explain, because I still don’t have an answer.
I didn’t even get a chance to say good bye on the blog. The only way was to log on as a guest. The blog was a blast for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was so into it that I posted on my days off.
I enjoyed so much the give-and-take I had with many of you the past couple of years. I crossed swords with some, but mostly enjoyed every aspect of it. I always wanted the blog to be like a group of friends hanging out at a sports bar or in somebody’s living room. When the blog clicked, it was that way for me. I hope it was that way for you, too.
I wish you all the best. Thanks for bringing so much fun into my life. Peace to all.-John Delcos

Speaking of changing employers. I had my going away drinks today. The shit you find out when your leaving. We had a co-worker who had a baby and got laid off three days after coming back from maternity leave. Her boss who is married to the CMO and lost a baby last year, told her when she got axed “at least you didn’t lose a baby like I did”. How horrible is that.

My current work place is dysfunctional in so many ways. I picked the right time to leave for sure. They announced a hiring freeze today too.

  34. Comment posted by Future, now with a present J.D. on August 22, 2008 at 12:00 am (#813488)

I don’t like to say anything bad but maybe karma is the reason her boss lost a baby to begin with.

Maybe people like that don’t deserve children.

My family lost a baby and we would never say that to someone else. That’s just cruel to say, oh you didn’t lose a baby? Your life doesn’t suck!

  35. Comment posted by littlefallsmets on August 22, 2008 at 12:00 am (#813489)

Delcos was about 25 years behind the times in terms of attitudes on how a baseball team is supposed to be run… but I’ll give the dude that he had the guts to give-and-take on his message board, despite his losing the arguements on his own website many a time.

There’s something to be said for that.

    Godspeed little doodle.

  36. Comment posted by bcuster on August 22, 2008 at 12:01 am (#813490)

i had heard delcos’ mets’ blog had the 2nd most hits behind mc lite. i cannot believe it is being shut down.

    i am shocked

  38. Comment posted by Dep on August 22, 2008 at 12:02 am (#813492)

it probably won’t be shut down, just handled by someone else.

  39. Comment posted by Doc believes! on August 22, 2008 at 12:02 am (#813493)

They didn’t shut it down, they just have a cheaper reporter do it now. That’s the modern paper business.

  40. Comment posted by Jessica on August 22, 2008 at 12:02 am (#813494)

Yeah, someone else has already been doing blog posts on there.

  41. Comment posted by Jessica on August 22, 2008 at 12:03 am (#813495)

Delcos had to log on as a guest to explain his situation. I mean, pretty classless by The Journal News there.

  43. Comment posted by bcuster on August 22, 2008 at 12:04 am (#813497)

People say stupid things. Very stupid things. That was one awful example.

  49. Comment posted by Danny on August 22, 2008 at 12:08 am (#813503)

Delcos doesn’t work for an IT firm. He doesn’t know enough about technology to do anything damaging. You give him a goodbye blog IMO.

  50. Comment posted by Doc believes! on August 22, 2008 at 12:11 am (#813504)

IT managers write the rules for everyone, and I guess HR wants to follow them to letter. If it was a mass firing maybe a couple guys who could do it got it too so they’re going to reduce risk.

  51. Comment posted by Danny on August 22, 2008 at 12:18 am (#813505)

I hear you, Doc. But I don’t get it. If Delcos does something stupid after he gets word of his firing, then he never works again. I don’t see the risk. He’s a journalist, not an IT technician.

  52. Comment posted by Danny on August 22, 2008 at 12:20 am (#813506)
