In response to my argument in support of J-Roll’s critique of boorish Philly fans, the excellent Dep presented an argument that, essentially, it wouldn’t amount to anything and was therefore stupid. I argued with (partially represented below, right justified) the idea that fighting what you disagree with is better than accepting it. The first cited “it” refers to my notion that marquee players could change the discussion of fan behavior for the better by taking Rollins-like risks and speaking the truth. What followed from Dep silenced me, and I nominate it for post of the year.

Now, it probably won’t happen, and you have every single right to be a total pessimist about yr fellow fan/man… But I still think it’s better than doing nothing. To accept the status quo when I think the status quo sucks isn’t my thing.

i think what J-Roll did was silly.

Just like i think if Johan said “these fans suck” after getting boo’d after his first start would have been silly.

perhaps its because i dont assign any value to saying that, and dont think it will change anything in the long-run. so all the player does is dig a hole for himself while accomplishing nothing overall. negative value transaction.

also, i dont think is a “baseball problem”. People are idiots EVERYWHERE and getting dumber day by day. its evident everywhere, look at TV programming and what is getting more and more popular over the years, new n stupider shows are more popular year by year.

I think the idiocy displayed by fans at ballparks is just representative or a small subsection of the worldwide idiocy problem. that is what needs to be solved.

smart people need to have more babies and stupid people need to stop having so damn many.

till that happens, the world will remain in a downward spiral to code level: moron
