And so Geekday ends. Thanks to Shea, Dep, Danny, and others for another great time. Next year, Baltimore?

All I can say is wow. When the Mets drafted Javier Rodriguez in the 2008 MLB Draft I was shocked, because they didn’t take a gamble on a stud pitcher named Tim Melville. Everyone said no. Melville. Don’t take a risk with him. He’ll go to college. Wrong. Kansas City just signed him, and 29 other teams in baseball including the Mets will be kicking themselves in a few years. We had an opportunity not only in the second, but the third round as well to grab him. It made so much sense because it would’ve given us a chance to land another high level prospect in a later round. All it would have cost us would have been the 1.25 million he signed for. That would have been such a worthwhile risk. Right now Brad Holt is a beast for the Cyclones. Can you imagine the Mets coming out of that draft with Ike Davis, Reese Havens, Brad Holt, and Tim Melville? Big Mistake!! Javier Rodriguez better turn out to be the next Albert Pujols, because Melville will be amazing.

    Geekday Photos
I did a horrible job taking photos. I didn’t get everyone. Hopefully, everyone can be seen in the background if they aren’t easily identifiable. I had a blast!

    Is… yfern actually Tim Melville?

Nice photos… though without the context of knowing who is supposed to be who, I’ll admit I’m a bit lost.

It was loads of fun, seeing the Geeks I met last year again and meeting new ones. And the Mets and Phils did their parts by winning and losing respectively. Ditto Marlins. Yay for first place Mets! Keep it up!

Eddie Kunz is not quite ready for the 9th inning :)

I’m glad everyone had a great time at PNC!
I hope to join you all next year in Baltimore!

    Photos aren’t so bad, Chris.

But I only recognize Dep, Doc and 86.

The starting pitching this team has is what SHOULD separate them from the rest of the NL East…look at what our 5th starter gave us last night.

Ah, okay….I see if you click the link above Chris’s slide show, the photos have captions of some of the Geeks. Good job, Chris.

yfern, if the Mets had drafted Melville we’d be complaining today about how they failed to sign one of their picks, because we all know they weren’t going to give anyone an above-slot bonus and risk getting on Selig’s bad side. I wanted them to take him in the first round because that was the only way we would have had a shot at signing him with the restrictions this team places on itself. I can’t wait until they day they realize that it’s more cost-effective to spend a few hundred thousand extra here and there on draft picks than it is to give a free agent 10 million a year.

Nice Geekday pics, Chris. I recognize most of the people in them.

    Reyes, ss
    A. Reyes, 2b
    Easley, 3b
    Delgado, 1b
    Beltran, cf
    Murphy, lf
    Tatis, rf
    Schneider, c
    Santana, lhp

Worst lineup of the year? Just b/c he is giving wright a day off, doesn’t mean he has to put his replacement in the 3-spot. Over under on number of times Jose is stranded on base? Poor johan - better pitch a shutout!

Glad a good time was had by all yesterday :)

The Mets are expected to acquire reliever Luis Ayala from the Nationals for light-hitting minor-league shortstop Anderson Hernandez today. Ayala was 1-8 with a 4.29 ERA with Washington. He’s expected in Pittsburgh Monday. The Daily News has reported for two days that the Mets were talking to the Nats about Ayala.

Always loved A-hern, though he certainly cant hit. I’m not sure if this helps the bullpen, but at least it’s another arm, if not a good one.

I’m debating whether to walk over to PNC and catch game 3. I am not in any of those pictures. 71 is right. If you click on the photos, there are some descriptions.

This is a very good move, imho. Frankly, I’m surprised the Mets could get ANYTHING for all-field, no-hit AHern.

I am not in any of those pictures.

    Much to our disappointment (nh).
C’mon Chris, have Dep or Shea hold the camera :)

LOL, Ayala’s WHIP this year is the same as Heilman’s.
    Hey, we could’ve done worse.
And we definitely need the arm.

I assume this mean Kunz goes back to the minors?

  23. Comment posted by Ellis Dee on August 17, 2008 at 12:40 pm (#807845)

Kunz was wild (which you would expect having not pitched in about a week), but all except one ball was hit on the ground. The first hit was a lucky bouncer hit in front of the plate that found a hole. The double was an opposite field grounder hit down the line. The wild pitch was an off-speed pitch with good movement although the location was bad. His only out was the come-backer. His stuff was good, but his location was not.

Nice pics TLC. Glad you guys had fun.
