closing in on season records

Last year Jose Reyes wiped Roger Cedeno off the top spot on the franchise SB list. Nothing against Roger, but its nice when your franchise leader is a superstar, not a “who is that?.” This is particulary true for someone who does not live in the NY area, but has to explain who these players were to SF Giant and Oakland A’s fans. Last year, Wright topped Lance Johnson’s remarkable year with 330 Total bases. So here are some met season records that are under fire.

Wright is 2 doubles away from Gilkey’s 44. What a great trade the mets made, picking up up Gilkey for 3 guys who never played much. Even though Gilkey had his best season as a Met, I still think of him as a Cardinal. Did you know the mets traded him with Nelson Figueroa to AZ?

Wright is 8 RBI away Piazza’s 124. Again, rather see the homegrown talent atop that leaderboard. Yet, what a dynamo that 99 offense was… peak steriod, bad pitching era. piazza 124, ventura 120, alfonzo 108, Olerud 96; combined 448 rbi. 2006 saw some nice rbi number by the big 3, and throw in reyes’ 81… combined 427 RBI… Close, but I can’t see reaching those numbers with four players again. This year the big four are on pace for 407 RBI.

Reyes 3 triples away from Johnson’s 21.

Reyes is 48 AB from his own club record of 696.
