Danny, I bought the ping pong balls. But we probably won’t get there until 3 or 4. So if you guys want to start playing pong early, you could pick up a back up package.

Do you guys think the next wave of baseball players might come from Brazil?
Yes Yes I do Lunk but if any Geeks were looking to get Udamn a present I think I just found your gift for you.

The New York Yankees have fired two scouts under investigation in a probe of possible kickbacks from contracts with Latin American players, The Associated Press has learned.
The Yankees terminated the contracts of Carlos Rios, their director of Latin American scouting, and Ramon Valdivia, their Dominican Republic scouting director, a baseball official said Friday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.
The two, who had been on leave, were terminated Thursday, the official said.

Really? They sent Melky down? HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Comment posted byListeron August 15, 2008 at 4:27 pm (#807376)
The Melkman is a plain good ball player. I’ve watched him. I know he’s good. John Sterling is no everyday fan - it’s his job to know who’s good, and he knows Melky can play. I mean his average is better than Adam Dunn’s, and Dunn just netted Micah Owings and that OSU kid ON A RENTAL. Yanks should trade Melky for Clayton Kershaw or Yovani Gallardo this offseason. He’s so valuable bc. he’s nowhere near FA status.

I’m surprised they cut Sexson so quickly though. He did have a .370 OBP for them. Not much power but, hell, he didn’t even get 30 at bats with them.

When was the last time a pitcher led a team with single digit wins? The last I remember is Aaron Small leading the A’s with 9 sometime in the early 90’s.
King Felix Hernandez, of the Mariners, currently leads the team with 7.
I’m not at the Stadium today. But word from the Bronx is that Melky Cabrera has been optioned down to Triple-A Scranton and Richie Sexson was released.
OF Brett Gardner and INF Cody Ransom will be added to the roster.
The Melky move is about a month too late, but at least they made it. Maybe it’ll be a wake-up call for both he and Robinson Cano.
Tyler Kepner of the Times broke the news that RHP Gerrit Cole will spurn the Yankees and attend UCLA. We’ll know for sure later today. The Yankees, I’m told, are still working on it. But they’re also fine with the idea of getting a second first-round pick in 2009.
Cole was said before the draft to be immature. That he blew off a conference call the day of the draft to go golfing seemed like further evidence of that.
Last week came word that the player’s father was running the show instead of Scott Boras. That’s certainly the family’s right. But it’s usually best to leave such things to the pros.
The kid is taking a heck of a chance. Pitchers are fragile, especially high school pitchers. College coaches tend to abuse them and there are no guarantee the same money will be waiting three years from now. Beyond that, you have no control which team drafts you in three years. When you have a shot to play for the Yankees, you need to take it.

Then we have Chris Russo, who left WFAN and is apparently heading for satellite radio and a big-money deal. Russo can be very funny and what he and Mike Francesa did was basically invent sports-talk radio as we know it today.
But why would anybody, particularly outside of New York, listen to him on satellite radio? WFAN was smart enough to pair Russo with somebody who actually knew sports and knew the people involved in sports. Francesa is not the most charming fellow in the world but he’s willing to pick up the phone and do a little research. He has credibility.
Whatever credibility Russo had was because he was with Francesa and on WFAN, which reaches millions of people. People wanted to be on their show.
Russo alone? That’s why they invented the scan button.
Three years from now, you have to wonder whether Gerrit Cole and Mad Dog Russo will be on anybody’s radar. Everybody needs to be selfish to some degree. But don’t be stupid.

Mad Dog is going to cash in so big on this deal (and will always have other deals behind it awaiting him on a fraction of his track record alone) that, frankly, I imagine he would tell Abraham that it’s HE, the writer for the Journal News(?wtf?) who is stupid.
Lister - The Journal News is the same paper Delcos writes for. Westchester County based paper.
I posted it because I agree with your thoughts on the topic. Dude is dumb. Russo will make a lot of money, though I do agree that his sports knowledge beyond tennis, could fill a thimble
I think most are heading out tonight. Lets hope we get a leg up on the Phils and fish tonight by beating the Pirates

Hello from Pittsburgh! I am here in my hotel room, watching batting practice through the window of my room which supposedly does not have a PNC view (but does!) The city is awash in Mets fans — I saw more Mets regalia walking around earlier than Pittsburgh stuff. I wasn’t expecting such a strong Mets presence as in Philly, but it looks to be just as strong.
I may go to some of tonight’s game after dinner — seems stupid to just watch in my room, when it’s just a walk across the river.
Less than 24 hours to GeekDay and counting!

I want that I-Pod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Athena! Thanks!
I bought a set, too. Sometimes they break or get stepped on accidentally so it’s good to have backup options!
Danny and Lunk,
I want you both to have a good time this weekend,
but perhaps you guys should stick with Diet Coke to avoid another hangover?
Don’t look at me, 71. I’m not the one that partied with El Salvadoreans after the game.
That qualifies as Lima Time!® we can enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okey-Doke, Danny.
I’ll leave you guys to your link wars, now. Have fun.
I’ll see you tomorrow.
I love NY but I love England
Have a Coke and a smile
Later Athena! See you in Pittsburgh!
Bye, Lunk!
Bye Athena! Tomorrow we celebrate!
Believe it or not, don’t discount the baseball talent coming from France of all places!
I hope so, Dan!*
*nope. Not better. ;-)
It is very hard to deny the baseball that my homeland of England is producing. But what has Portugal given us?
Speaking of Pittsburgh, were you guys planning on playing beer pong there?
Portuguese players can’t seem to get out of bed and play anything but soccer.
I got something Portuguese players would play with any time of the day.
I still say that Minaya will continue to keep a leg up in the Latin market for players
My whole family got the pleasure of meeting Danny last eve.
The kids were up all night. We had to medicate them to get them to sleep.
Have fun in the Steel City all my Geek friends.
Haha, did the Forevers enjoy the game?
The Family Forever had a great time, amigo. All but Daddy, who had a coronary during the Joe Smith Era.
haha
It got pretty hairy there for a bit.
hahahah Danny and I were almost holding hands in fear! (nh)
Viva La Rasa 71 forever
Salma Hayek has to have the greatest body in history.
You guys are not following the rules I may have to ban you all
I hope the kids recover 86.

Fine Lunk but no more Rick Roll
I JUST CAN’T QUIT YOU…. KUNZ!
But I won’t get fired for Rickrolling!

Accusations of doping are starting to come up. Figures.
How is the Forever clan doing 86?
The Dark Knight Returns
That’s gotta be a fake. Right?
lister made a joke yesterday about it.
Dude is clean. he’s tested more than anyone. he’s part of a project with extra random tests and so forth.
Now beer, that’s a different story.

You forgot to “beep”, Lister.
Oops Sorry the Yanks Sent Melky down and released Sexson
Wright’s splits against righties are starting to return to normal. He’s at .810 OPS.
Sexson was clogging the bench. No need for anyone when you’ve got Justin Christian. THat kid can play too. He’s fast!
WTF I couldn’t see the Hayden picture. It’s apparently “forbidden”. It’s a Heroes fan site, WTF?
The Melk-man!!!!!
Poor Lunk. I found quick on a google search of got milk ads
heh, I did the Google search and was able to get to it. Strange.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS for the Mariners, has walked a total of SEVEN times this season.
Melky was sent down?
bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abraham at Journal News
More Abraham. Geritt Cole is stupid.

Wow Ed.
Lunk I can’t believe we forgot Hayden earlier
I’m not a HUGE Hayden fan. She honestly looks like little too much of a chubby teenager at times.
Mind you, I’d still hit it.

Time to get on the subway to Grand Central.
Have a good geekday Lunk and any others who have yet to depart.
what’s with the sly but generous array of booby linkage? Did I miss a meeting?
Thanks Ed.
Ask udamn. He owns this site now.
k, I’m out, too. Later Geeks, see you in Pittsburgh!
Enjoy the ride squadron. Courtesy of the new ruler
I am the new sheriff in town so obey the law. Have fun Lunk
