Geek day fast approaches. We all must learn from our mistakes, so in that spirit (maybe Jerry will finally learn not to trust Duaner) I will make my cell number available to all. Just email me. I’d prefer not to publish it here.
Based on a conversation with a Pirate employee, tailgating ( and drinking) is allowed in all parking lots (except covered ones.) Please understand I have never been to PNC in my life so I’m going on the employee’s recommendation. She has suggested Red Lot 6 as our goal. Go to this page. Click on the link that says North Shore Parking Map. And find Red Lot 6. Good luck to us all! I believe that most of us know what we look like at this point, so identifying some of us should be an easier task. Game time is 7:05. I suggest we arrive between 3:00 and 4:00 o’clock because the game is sold out and people make big events out of this SkyBlast night stuff.
Now…..what is everyone bringing? There will be 31 of us attending. (If CLow joins us it will be a few more) I’m not sure if 2008 still has the grills (that Woody bought last year) or we need new ones. Charcoal? Hot dogs, hamburgers, relish, mustard, ketchup, soda, water, chips, cole slaw, beer, beer, beer. Athena and I have chatted and she has said she’ll bring paper goods…..plates, napkins, cups, plastic utensils. Feel free to suggest whatever tickles your fancy….or palate. But please let us know what you’re bringing so we don’t have too much of some things and too few of others. Thanks.
Please feel free to ask any questions or make any suggestions regarding meeting, tailgating, etc. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Go Mets!
I will bring beer and other medz.
I will also bring whatever else is required. we’ll see what others are doing…
I plan on being there welllll b4 3-4pm, I may go at noon!
Danny, i expect you there!
I can bring whatever we need. I’ll be staying at my gf’s mom’s house Friday night so I can easily stop by a “Giant Iggle” and pick up stuff.
By the way, Shea, have you sent out the tickets yet?
Thanks, Lunk. Meant to mention that. All the tickets went out on Wednesday.
Sweet. Can’t wait to have them in my grimy little hands.
86Forever and I will be leaving the VA area around 9ish, so we should get to Pittsburgh between 1 and 2 PM, depending on how recklessly I drive. Dep, I’ll get your info and call as I approach so that we can meet up at the spot early.
Oh, I’m going to bring lots of alcohol, too. If someone brings a grill, I will be happy to bring some hot dogs and hamburgers and buns.
hahahaha, sounds good Danny. I didn’t know you were driving up that day when i said that, so like drive safe n all that. no rush. i’ll save a few of my beers for you ;)
exchanging info is a solid idea.
Danny has invited me to stay in his room.
Group vote please.
Man, I wish I could go. I haven’t been to a Mets game with a real Mets fan in my entire life. Just dragging girlfriends or tagging along with Dodger fans. How lame is that?
Shea, just so you know, I received my tickets in the mail today.
What do you have to “pay him”?
Shea, thanks for all you do.
i also got my lone ticket today.
it is an ugly ticket isnt it? blah.
I have dogs and one grill left from last year.
Thanks again, Shea and Danny, for organizing this.
I will already be in Pittsburgh, and am flying in, so my ability to bring stuff is limited. I could do paper stuff, but it sounds like that’s already spoken for. My husband is driving in to meet me, but I don’t think anyone wants food or drink that sat in a car in the Washington DC area for 2-3 days (I know I don’t). Still, I’ll try to figure something out. I’m certainly open to ideas. Maybe I could pick up a grill, if someone tells me what type, and ship it out with the hubby? (He may be joining us, btw, for the tailgate, though not for the game.)
Oh, and my internet access is very limited at present. One of our phone lines (we have several) died last week, so Verizon is busy at work making things worse. Well, not intentionally, but they did. For one thing, they can’t figure out the problem. First, they thought it was a short in the line, so they needed a splicer to get a new line from the cable. Then the splicers decided it was in the downtown office. Then they fixed that, and there is still a problem with the line, and now they don’t know what to do.
However, while they were mucking about with that line, and not succeeding in fixing it, they did manage to totally derail my DSL line, which is no longer functional. Unfortunately, since it’s Earthlink, I had to speak to the morons in Bombay, explain to them that the phone company had evidently accidentally cut off the line, then let them ignore all that and run through their stupid menu of items like the good little robots they are, only to have them inform me that a “tech supervisor” would call me in the next 24 hours (most of which I’m not at home). Having been through this road before, it’s 50/50 as to whether I’ll have DSL back before our Geek trip. I was able, however, for the first time since Win XP came along to figure out how to connect to my Earthlink dialup, so at least I have some access. But it’s sporadic and tends to die on me, so I’m only around some of the time. Hopefully, I won’t miss anything important.
Ah! I can probably bring chips. They’re light enough to carry. Any preferences?
I am not attending…
However, I imagine that someone should bring gold, someone should bring frankenscence and someone should bring Daniel Murphy.
Danny said he was bringing buns, but to be clear, I think he was referring to me.
Who is bringing bail money?
Could you all pour one out for me…..and take pictures..
tim, we’ll take lots of pictures for you. Promise. You’re in charge of bail money. We need someone who won’t wind up in the paddy wagon with us. I put you on speed dial!
thanks shea….you rule.
Thanks, shea! Tix received. I’ll bring not-beer beverages of some variety–probably the vodka, pineapple juice, and ginger ale slushies that I mentioned previously, if my hotel/room has a freezer I can use.
I’ll bring Burgers of all varieties. Veggie, turkey, and plain old American beef.
shea, i got my ticket the other day. thanks again.
as for saturday, i volunteer to bring those 1 gallon jugs of bottled water plus some six packs of beer. two questions, though: how much of each should i buy, and which brands of beer do you guys like? personally, i’m not a fan of bud/coors/busch and the like, but i’ll get whatever the geeks request.
or if you’d prefer that i bring something else, just let me know. otherwise, i’ll probably just bring a cooler from home, then buy the the drinks and maybe some ice once i arrive in pittsburgh so that the liquids remain cold.
Mets gear required, please.
Lot 6 says pre-sold on the map. I’m assuming thats the reserved lot for season ticket holders. Maybe a followup call is needed?
I vote yes.
**evil laugh**
I am at the beach in Florida and I will commit to something when I log on Tuesday or Wed from Dalton. I am in such pain from bad sun burn. My sis had to put crisco on my back instead of lotion. Later
Fixed
Benz08….I will call the Pirates again today. Thanks for that info. Maybe I’ll try someone different than the person I’ve been dealing with. Gold lot 4 looks like a possibilty as well. I will call today and report back. How many season ticket holders can the Pirates possibly have?….lol!
ill bring an assortment of chips and snack-type stuff
sounds like drinks and meats are covered
Will be driving down from Cleveland, gotz ta see the Jake. I’ll be parking at the hotel and walking over to PNC (aka Pop No Champagne circa 2006) and yous
Just lemme know what you guys need me to bring…..im going friday morning so I can pick up anything.
I suppose it’s sounding like it might be a good idea to bring alcohol. I’ll bring some nice cold ones, I guess. Do we like cheap stuff or are we snobby microbrew kind of people?
Is somebody bringing soda (I hope)? I can’t bring it, since I’m flying in, and I do not drink beer. Nor does my husband. Ice tea, lemonade, soda, water — any of the above would be fine for me/us. But not beer. I hate the taste.
I picked up a couple of small grills, as shea already knows per email. My husband is meeting me in Pittsburgh, and they’re in the car already. But it wouldn’t be a good idea to keep soda and/or charcoal in a hot car (he’s coming via D.C.) for four-five days. I didn’t even take the chance to leave chips in there (I’m going to bring some snack stuff with me on the plane, hopefully).
Oh, and re tailgating site: maybe someone could go to one of the Pirate blogs or the chat forum on the mlb site and simply ask what’s a good lot for tailgating (don’t id as Mets fans, of course). Just tell them you and some friends are going to a game for the first time and you’re looking for a rec for a good tailgating parking lot. That’ll probably give better info than the Pirates’ office.
I’ll bring some soda/water in addition to beer, just in case…..
no problemo.
any specific flavors desired?
To be honest, from a person who has already been to PNC Park, we had a blast spending time in the streets around the park. It is very festive, lots of activities and alcohol IS allowed, as long as its purchased from street vendors… So if you are tailgating in the parking lot I would suggest giving youelves enough time before pre-gametime to experience it.
Thanks, Dep!
I’m good with Diet Coke (however, NOT Diet Pepsi), or regular ginger ale, Sprite/Sierra Mist/any lemon-lime. Or, as I said, lemonade or ice tea if that’s easier or desirable. My husband will probably stick to water, but if not, he drinks regular coke, root beer, pretty much anything non-Diet.
sounds good luc. thanks for answering!
my pleasure entirely!
consider it taken care of…..
(i better take notes, or i’ll end up getting pepsi lol)
Dep is going to stroll in with so much stuff he’ll look like the one-man-band guy from the Guinnuess Book of World Records
hahahaha, not as much as i brought last year! that was overkill.
this will be fine
lets just make sure we have the essentials
-beer
-more beer
-non-beer drinks, alcoholic and non
-grill(s)
-stuff to grill
that’s what i consider essentials!
lol dep!
maybe I should make a list….based off of this so we can see who’s bring what and what we still need.
I’m walking so I can only bring one item from the 7-11 on 601 Penn. Just let me know what’s a priority and I’ll grab it.
hey guys, i just want everyone to know that i’m offering a ride to pittsburgh for anyone who’s interested. i’ll be leaving early on saturday morning from northern nj (bergen county) and will hopefully arrive in pittsburgh no later than 2pm. i haven’t decided yet if i want to leave right after the game, stay the night and then leave in the morning, or possibly catch the sunday game as well, but i’m leaning toward the first option. if anyone expresses interest in coming, just post here and let me know if you want to stay in pittsburgh through sunday.
I don’t know if I will have a car or not. If not, I will be magically appearing through teleportation from the Omni hotel
here’s what I’ve figured we’re getting based on the above:
Grills - 2008, Luci
Charcoal - 2008 ( do we need matches and fluid?)
Hot dogs - Danny, 2008
hamburgers -Doc
Additional grilling items -dep
paper goods - Athena
Beverages - dep, lunk, doug sisk, PHL
chips/snacks - Zod, Luci
mustard, relish, ketchup - shea
buns - danny, shea
We need a few snack tables so we don’t have put all the stuff on the ground. Also bring some chairs if you have. Did I forget anyone? Anything else? Speak up people!
I might be able to bring a table or two. I have to see what Lorraine’s mom has hiding in the basement.
I think i’m gonna not bring food this year….I think we’ll be fine with hamburger n hot dogs….maybe i’ll grab some more hamburger patties or something
I’ll try to think of any additional snack food or side dishes that might survive the long drive. But I’m not sure what it will be. Maybe sweets?
Athena, you’re sweets enough for me.
:-0
Just put me down for whatever we are needing food/beverage wise
john, i was gonna bring some burgers n buns so doc doesnt have to bring all the burgers…..why dont you bring those and I’ll focus on ze beverages….
i think i might have a long folding table and possibly 2-3 metal folding chairs. if anyone has a tablecloth (disposable or otherwise) to cover the table, it’ll be perfectly fine for putting the food and drinks.
I will also bring a ton of red solo cups or whatever i can find. knowing most other parks, we’ll be safer drinking in cups than straight from bottles/cans
I’ll buy a disposable tablecloth or 2.
yeah ill do that then.
I’m bringing half of whatever Danny is bringing.
geeks are going to have a great union. i had a commitment that was booked in january
i truly wish i could be there
We wish that you could, too, bcuster. Maybe next year!
next year you better come, custer. This is 2 years in a row. No more excuses….lol!
I hope you guys will look out for us when Danny and I pull in the parking lot.I’m the cute one.
I’m the one with the big head.
and we’re cool on grills? i know luc said she has a couple small ones, so we good on that? they important!
so is red lot 6 definitively our place? i guess so!
TO ALL GEEKS:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE’S PHONE NUMBER. like myself or shea’s.
IT IS KEY. WHO KNOWS HOW THINGS MIGHT HAVE TO CHANGE WHEN WE GET THERE.
DON’T BE LEFT OUT!
Dickweed.
should we advertise this on other sites?
someone one on refugees was asking if anyone was going to pitt.
I know metsblog had had announcement on other fan gatherings.
someone email kevin Burkhardt.
Confused, I think it would be fine to tell soemone from refugees where we’re going to be. But I’d be a bit leery of just publically announcing it. But if others feel differently, that’s fine.
I’m a bit leery announcing that publicly too. Personally, I only care about hanging out with the people from here while watching the game (tailgating too). I would have no problem meeting people while we tailgate and inviting them to partake.
there are other sites? about the mets? i’ll have to check that out sometime.
Maybe I’ll bring some potato salad or something. I’ll see what I can find at the store while I’m there.
I’m told by a native Pittsburghian (Pittsburger?) that this is THE place to eat in the stadium.
http://www.primantibros.com/
I want to go sooo bad. Damn my beautiful family…damn them straight to hell.
EMERGENCY NOTE: LORRAINE HAS DEMANDED NO ONE DRINK IRON CITY BEER AS PITTSBURGHERS ARE ASHAMED OF IT’S NASTY TASTE!
Also, I am definitely leading the group to Primanti Brothers. Awesome sandwiches. I get one every time I go to PNC.
Greetings from Pittsburgh! I am here, along with my two little grills and a bunch of chips. Someone will have to pick up the grills from me, however, as I’m not sure when we’ll be getting over there (and I’m not sure we could carry them either, since we’ll be walking over). I’m staying across the river at the Renaissance, and discovered to my delight that my non-PNC view room (at normal rates) has a lovely view of PNC through the outfield. I’m watching the players out on the field right now. If only I had binoculars, or better eyesight.
There are guys selling tickets on the street, so I picked one up for tonight after all. I figured it’s kind of stupid to sit in my hotel room watching the game when I can walk across the bridge and watch it for real. I probably won’t get there for the beginning, though, because of dinner plans.
Looking forward to seeing youse guys and gals tomorrow!
lucien, we’ll be driving in for the game (staying with the girlfriend’s mom outside the city) so we could presumably pick up the grills from you. I’ll coordinate further later.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkk
i hate jet blue, wont make pitt. :(
but maybe i can get a flat panel tv. hmmm;)
Hey Guys,
I’m still debating whether or not I’m coming to the tailagate. If I do I will bring sausage peppers and onions and rolls and I think we’re good on beer so I’m just gonna bring a small amount. If someone could email me ahordych@gmail.com or text me 201-290-8419 and please let me know if there is any final plan and what parking lot you will be in. I’m figuring on being in Pitt at 1 and checking into my hotel then coming to the game. My friend and I like to get in and see BP so I’m not sure if we’d be tailgating long enough to justify coming. Will there maybe also be post game tailgating to watch the fireworks? Ok so could someone please email or text me with the Lot the party will be in and what time the earliest person will be there so that I have someone’s number
Scratch the sausage. We found a hostess outlet so we’re gonna bring fattening baked goods, Someone call or email me though or give me someone’s number so I know where to go
I’m bringing Danny - and really, what else is there to bring?
Benz, I have my blackberry so I’ll be paying attention here. I can give you my number later.
I’m on an Iphone so i have full internet capabilities. Just text me your number my number is 201-290-8419
Lunk - Rene? - thanks for the offer. Just back from the game (too much of a nailbiter, but at least it went the right way - -there was a time in the 9th when I was sure Heilman was about to serve up another gopher ball after the walk), and a great display of fireworks and concert afterwards. Depending on when you are coming in, it would be great if you could pick up the grills, assuming Shea hasn’t come up with an alternate plan. We can coordinate in the am, since I’m sure you’re not reading this right now.
So are we still meeting in Red Lot 6?
That is my understanding. Spoke to Shea this am, and she said Lot 6, starting around 2 pm.
ATTENTION: Our parking lot has changed!!!!!
We are now in GOLD LOT 2!!!!
See you all there!
oh now you tell me
Thanks again for all your hard work Shea! and Dep and Danny w00t
