Eric Simon has far too much time on his hands. He sleeps upside-down, keeps people as pets, and can be found on the internets at Amazin' Avenue or bothered directly at eric@metsgeek.com.

Phillies placed infielder Pedro Feliz on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation.
The stint is retroactive to July 24. Feliz has reportedly been bothered by the stiffness for a couple of weeks, which might help explain why he had just one hit in his last 21 at-bats. Eric Bruntlett and Greg Dobbs will see time at third until he returns.
So, is Dominatrix Cheeseburgers really going to pitch for this squad before the end of the season is over?

Phillies recalled infielder Mike Cervenak from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Cervenak was with the Phillies for ten days earlier this month, but managed just one at-bat. He’ll provide little more than depth.

Changing his tune from a couple of hours prior, ESPN’s Jayson Stark reports that the Phillies are not close to picking up Ron Mahay.
It’s unclear whether it’s because of a hesitance to part with Jason Donald. The Phillies already weakened a farm system without much depth when they traded Adrian Cardenas and Josh Outman for Joe Blanton. If Donald goes too, then Pat Gillick won’t be leaving his eventual replacement much to work with.

If that was serious n real about minor league games starting saturday for him, i think a september callup is not beyond the realm of impossibility
they’re going to take it very slowly with him i’m sure.

I am intrigued by Burgos. But his splits against lefties were also poor. I will say that he adds a dimension we don’t have in middle relief: a fireballer. I just hope he keeps the walks down.
Kunz already has logged 45 IP. I wonder if the Mets plan to use him with all of those innings logged this season.

yup, he needs to do better vs lefties. that’s for sure
his stuff is exciting though. he can be a closer-type if it comes together for him.
and of course, this assumes his stuff is even there anymore.
after seeing dirty turned into a junkball pitcher, i dont have much faith in post-surgery guys right now.

but the rays are!

If thats the case Ramon we should just call up Kunz. A fireballer with so so numbers against lefties. His numbers have improved a lot in the last few months. Maybe he can give the BP some much needed rest.

Joe (MD): Who gets called up or traded first…Nelson Cruz or Dallas McPherson?
Will Carroll: Cruz.

Mike (Nevada): Why wouldn’t Tony La Russa have convinced management into drafting Pat Venditte? The idea of a switch pitcher seems like something La Russa would’ve invented himself.
Will Carroll: TLR: “I can haz both?”

Gray (Chicago): Is that your TLR impression before or after 5 scotches?
Will Carroll: Me or him?

Chris (Atlanta): Do you ever get tired of writing about Mike Hampton in your UTK columns?
Will Carroll: No. I should send him and Moises Alou a fruit basket. Moises Alou actually asked for a kickback a couple years ago.

A-Roth (NY): NY POST has been updated as of 15 minutes ago. Red Sox-Dodger discussions have progressed to the point where they’re discussing either Kemp or Either for Manny and Cash. Red Sox will either get, and keep, Kemp or get Either and flip him with a pitching prospect or first base prospect (Lars Anderson?) for Teixeira. So it seems it’s either Manny, Kemp or Teixeira for the Red Sox. Seems like a long shot still, but you never know.
Will Carroll: I’m not sure when this came in, but I am hearing very, very similar things, but that the Red Sox are more in the “if A then B” mode than turning this into a three-way deal. It’s the second part, especially if it’s Anderson, that makes it really tough for me to believe. I have some calls out on this one.

The Angels just removed Kasey Kotchman from the field. He is believed to be going to the Braves for Tex

I dont love that trade for them

Kotchman is pretty good too. Not gonna enjoy facing him much either

Kotchman has a chance to be really good. he’s real young too.
Its a fair deal the more i think about it. but it doesnt look so hot if they lose him after this season and dont win this year imo

murraygd13 (MN): Casey Kotchman and a pitching prospect for Tex?
Will Carroll: and on that prospect, KG says: “I don’t hate him, I kinda like him. They’ve move him to the bullpen this year, which is where most scouts thought he’d always end up in the first place. He’s got that nice combination of being a big guy with above-average velo, but his secondary stuff isn’t great, and it’s a bit of a max-effort delivery. He’s missing bats at Double-A, and I think he could miss bats all the way up.
Not a closer, but a big league bullpen arm, by mid-09 possibly.”
So, there.

I think its a real fair deal for both clubs but only if they resin the First Basemans. Kotchman has a chance to be a Tex type player. He seems to hit for a high average too. I use to have him on my fantasy team but dropped him for Laroche when he started getting hot
I believe the answer to that is yes.
kewl…
