Brandon Knight vs Joel Pineiro

(Baseball-Reference.com Preview)

And, they’ve probably lost Heilman for tomorrow…friggin’ game could have been over in the 12th, when the 1st base umpire blew the call on Endy…dammit.

    “dump”

    “stuck with him”

No — not nasty at all.

It’s like trying to have a conversation with a tree. Just as useless.

Hey Goobers - the game isn’t over yet.

It would just make sense to dispose of him immediately and get another arm in after this long of a mess.

This is just dumb. The guy pitched really well after he settled in. The bad numbers (most of which were accumulated in the 1st) don’t tell the whole story.

I’ll take all we can get out of Delgado while we’re stuck with him, he’s on a tear, there’s no doubt about it.

This is dumber. You want to trade our best slugger this season for what?

And personally, I don’t mind being “stuck with Delgado” at all right now.

And if he keeps this up, I say pick up the option. You can do worse for 8 mill (it’d cost us 4 mill to buy him out, so the real cost of keeping him is only 8 mill).

    There’s no one else.

And while the first base umpire fucked us with the Endy call and the HP umpire Wegner…if he called high strikes the whole game Knight might have pitched 8!

All a bunch of ifs. If one more of our hitters didn’t suck balls with RISP this game would be over. This is all on us. Not on the umpires. They suck balls too, but they pale in comparison to how choky the bats have been tonight.

Knight’s a spot filler in AAA that should by all rights be a player-coach for the Long Island Ducks and… he timed out to be a band-aid for one ineffective start… are we supposed to mince words here?

It’s not like he’s reading this board or anything. Why the need for sugarcoating it?

Also, some of the hits that the Cardinals made were lucky as hell. Oh well…them’s the breaks…

Wasn’t being nasty at all. Honest and goal oriented? Sure. But not nasty.

By all fair measures, he was terrible but he was expected to be terrible, AAA numbers mean nothing for a 32 year old and…

It would just make sense to dispose of him immediately and get another arm in after this long of a mess.

I’ll take all we can get out of Delgado while we’re stuck with him, he’s on a tear, there’s no doubt about it.

My major fear is that a coupla hot months will make them pick up that ridiculous option on the guy. Sure, he’s whole for a stretch of time and he looks great.

But just because you don’t die in your first two spins of Russian roulette, it doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea for another spin.

His fragility will bite us all on the ass eventually… but for now, I’m with you, lets see how long we can let it ride.

These statements about delgado are about as weak as it gets. Why can’t you just celebrate the run he has been on instead of being a pessimistic jerk. Some people are never happy.

No, but we are supposed to watch the game.

He had a tough first, aided and abetted by some poor fielding (hello, Endy) and some seeing-eye hits. After that, he settled in and did very well, including K-ing Pujols. I’ve seen a LOT worse (Jose Lima immediately comes to mind, and he’s hardly the only one). So, no, I don’t actually think he should be a player-coach for the Long Island Ducks — in fact, while watching him (I was at the game earlier), several of us were wondering why he wasn’t somewhere in the league because his stuff was good enough for a lot of pitching-hungry teams.

Oh well…when you go 1-for-oblivion with RISP, you really don’t deserve a win. We need Yo-Yo to go long tomorrow…Jerry, a CG would not be a bad thing after how the BP got stretched out.

I’m thankful as hell that Delgado’s got a last hurrah in him before one more injury knocks the house of cards down for good.

Between him going bananas and Perez-Pelfrey-Santana pitching like superheroes once the Jacket got the Boot, that’s why the Mets got their claws dug into first place.

It’s ridiculously awesome. But to treat Delgado’s recent performance like a trend and not just a wave to ride until it rolls back is… kind of delusional.

But I’ll sure as hell take it for as long as it’s there.

Knight setteld down and mad a game of it. Its all we could ask for him making a spot start. Was he great no? But he kept us in the game and its more than we could ask from him

  33. Comment posted by metswin2008 on July 27, 2008 at 12:25 am (#782418)

I dunno LFM, I hear what your saying it all could be gone but if he keeps hitting like this until say mid Aug or the end of it you seriously have to wonder if he just made an adjustment and is gonna run with it for the rest of the way. Its definately a fun ride while hes hot but I hope it continues. We could ride his bat all the way to the W.S. if he stays like this

  34. Comment posted by jas on July 27, 2008 at 12:26 am (#782419)

He also left the game with a lead…he was a little nervous to start…certainly wasn’t helped by Endy on the ball Pujouls hit, but got the game under control before he left. If at anytime, any Met batter had decided to do something with men on base besides go quietly into the night, there wouldn’t be a reason for any teeth-gnashing right now.

  35. Comment posted by littlefallsmets on July 27, 2008 at 12:28 am (#782420)

The adjustment is… the hot weather came, he healed as much as he could at this point in his career… and a good chunk of his batspeed came back.

And like I say… mazeltov to that. I’ll take it for as long as it lasts. I just wouldn’t put money on it lasting through the transition into fall, one way or the other.

But there’s no other everyday firstbase options right now, really, so… yeah… roll the dice until he comes up craps, absolutely.

Thats the whole thing LFM. I really dont see may other options for next year either. I mean I realize eventually its gonna come to an end. As these guys age it ends quick but these really aint much out there. We’d probably have to pull off a trade and try to get a Connoer Jackson or Casey Kotchman. (Although, I dont see that happening)

  37. Comment posted by littlefallsmets on July 27, 2008 at 12:40 am (#782423)

    I dunno, man.

Getting rid of the wreckage of Alou and Pedro and Delgado and so forth would free up a LOT of throwing around money.

I mean, at that point, really the only dead contract of any substance on the team is Castillo, unless you wanna count the relatively small number attached to Marlon.

That’s a LOT of throwing around money. You gotta at least see what the actual price is gonna be for Mark Tallahassee is before you just desperately hope that Delgado’s June and July somehow last ’til next October.

Overpaying for an arguably young guy sounds better than what would essentially be a faith-based initivate… i.e. praying Carlos somehow stays healthy that long.

See my thing is Ive just kinda given up hope on Tex. I mean if we got him I would be the first to go get me a Texeria jersey and I would be thrilled but I just kinda already sold him off to the Yanks. They’ll spend the big bucks I think.
But, your right, we definately will have alot of money coming off and that could make things very interesting
