   we hit 102 with mad humidity today. Until 5pm, we had no chance of rain tonight. by 6pm, they moved the chance up to 20%. By 7pm, it was 80%. It has been raining nonstop since 7 here. still thundering

   I don’t know. See, I want to make the reservation but I don’t know what my family is planning for my uncle’s memorial service. They said 2 or 3 weeks since they want to have everyone there but if they wait longer, it will cut into that weekend

   I was working outside today. Measured and sketched a mosque, which was hard since it is circular. I had my bright orange mets polo so I was cool even if it was sweltering

    The Dalton Islamic Center is offering a $2,000 reward for information as to what caused an unoccupied home on their property to burn early Christmas morning.

    The fire that destroyed the three-bedroom brick home is being called “suspicious,” said Whitfield County Fire Chief Carl Collins. The home sits several yards off Dug Gap Road and there was no power connected to the home at the time of the fire.

    “We have no choice but to believe this is a message someone is sending,” said Hammad El-Ameen, president of the Dalton Islamic Center.

    Graffiti was found inside the burned home including one drawing that said, “(Expletive) don’t come in here.”

    Residents crowded the Whitfield County Courthouse in 2005 opposing plans for the mosque, saying they thought the mosque would cause traffic problems. After tabling the issue, the Whitfield County Commission gave approval to building plans.

    El-Ameen said the past opposition is why he believes someone may have targeted the home. Construction began on the mosque around the beginning of December.

    “We don’t want to start pointing figures,” El-Ameen said. “Nothing happened when there was no construction. This only began when construction started.”

    Many of the mosque’s neighbors have embraced them, El-Ameen said. Fellowship Baptist Church, which is located next door to the mosque, held an ice cream social for the group.

    “We’ve had a lot of positive comments from people,” El-Ameen said.

    Capt. Rick Swiney of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office said he was not aware of any threats made toward the group.

    I wish I could say that shocked me Chris. I’m surprised they don’t build more discrete looking buildings as opposed to a standard circular mosque that stands out for that reason.

    Although there are a few S&G favorites here like The Sound of Silence, April Come She Will and Scarborough Fair, most of the other S&G songs are special film versions that don’t always work on their own. They were marvelous in the context of the film however.

    sounds like there are special versions of the songs in the movie, and various versions throughout the movie. also, the first verse of mrs. robinson is unique to the soundtrack and can’t be found anywhere else.

    I know. I only use the travel sites for price comparison. I do use priceline for hotels and will be using it to get a better rate when I am in pittsburgh.

    The mosque has been a very touchy subject. They have really great neighbors and my church has embraced the islamic center too. They agreed to plant trees around their property for privacy. People used the knocking down of trees as their cheif concern for an excuse of why they shouldnt build

    Why should they have to do that? I thought this was supposed to be a free country. Not trying to give you a hard time Doc because I know you’re just talking about how things are in reality but I find it ridiculous that so many people have such puny closed-minded views (once again - I’m not referring to you).

    Yeah, that figures, Chris. Nothing personal but I’m kind of one of those who wishes that the south had successfully seceded because of crap like that. I know that all southerners are not that way and there are certainly plenty of issues with northerners too but I hate that crap.

    Heh! I’ve been to services in Brooklyn. My grandparents church is a little more subdued, but I went to a funeral last year at another church and it was LOUD.

    yea, i think so. i haven’t bought weed in over 2 weeks and the only time i’ve smoked has been very late at night on the weekend, which is fine.
