If we could start winning again… yeah, that would be great

    From the GCL Mets-
One of the best Mets prospects that no one knows about, Robert Carson, turned in his second very good start in a row. Carson (1-0, 1.57) dealt six shutout innings, giving up just a first inning single. He retired the final ten batters he faced. He struck out four and didn’t walk a single batter. As a 6’3” lefty who can dial it up to 93, Carson is absolutely a name to remember.

    St. Lucie-

Game one was all Mets behind Michael Antonini (4-0, 1.84 - pictured) who fell a first inning homer shy of an abbreviated no-hitter. Antonini fanned seven while receiving 13 hits worth of run support. CF Ezequiel Carrera (.276/.348/.407) was a perfect 4-4 with three runs scored and his fourth homerun of the year, his second in the last three games. SS Ruben Tejada was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Lucas Duda, who’s struggled the last month, went yard in the fifth inning. Meanwhile, Shawn Bowman was 2-4 at the bottom of the order.

In the same week he was named to the US Olympic team, Brandon Knight (5-1, 1.60 - pictured) gave a gold medal performance. Err, sorry, I couldn’t resist. Knight struck out 12 batters, tying a Zephyrs’ record in six shutout innings. He gave up three hits and three walks. I wonder if the Mets regret letting Knight go to the Olympics with Pedro and El Duque coming up lame in the last few days. Having Knight, who’s been excellent both as a starter and reliever in New Orleans, in this country would provide some insurance.

Offensively, Chris Aguila and Valentino Pascucci went back-to-back in the first inning as each lifted their 19th homer of the year. Aguila (.297/.381/.546) was 2-3 and Pascucci (.293/.420/.568) was 1-2 with two walks.

Tell me again why Pascucci is still at NO? I know Delgado is hitting better, and we can´t complain about Tatis or Easley at all. But still….

Beltran was just horrible yesterday. 2 errors, a misjudged ball and frozen with bases loaded 2 outs. Schneider sucks IMO, His D is for the birds.
Ollie pitched a good game and The Mets could not when they were right there.
    Terrible last night
    A willie style loss

buy a run when they were right there

Tell me again why Pascucci is still at NO?

Dave, I am sure that Pascucci is asking the same question. I suspect that if Delgado, Tatis and Easley were doing a bit worse, Pascucci would still be hitting his homeruns for NO. I can say I blame the Mets in this case, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him replace Marlon.

With The Economy in The tank I dont see how The Mets, Yankees, Giants and Jets will be able to raise prices to ridiculous levels. The average Joe or Jane wont be able to go and Big Corps are getting SPANKED financially. Its amazing how greedy teams are getting.

CINCINNATI | Here’s something that might make you feel old. We are coming up on the 10th anniversary of Carlos Beltran’s first game with the Royals.

Ten years. Now, the last true superstar the Royals ever developed is here in the New York Mets clubhouse, and he has a bat in his hand, and he is entertaining eight or nine Mets with some sort of one-man baseball play. It’s in Spanish, so it’s hard for me to pick up the specific plotlines, but the play is obviously hilarious because Mets are falling over each other laughing.

    Pedro won’t pitch Tuesday

    By Anthony Rieber

CINCINNATI – Pedro has reentered the building.
Pedro Martinez flew to Cincinnati yesterday and walked into Great American Ball Park at about 7:45 p.m. He threw a short bullpen session during the sixth and seventh innings of last night’s game against the Reds.
Martinez left his last start on July 12 after four innings because of tightness in his shoulder and had a cortisone shot in his hip on Thursday to treat a sore groin.
Manager Jerry Manuel, who before Martinez arrived said he was “wavering” on whether to start him on Tuesday against the Phillies, wavered no more after the game. Martinez will not pitch again until next weekend at the earliest.

I read Sandomir’s article in the Times this morning about the Mets and Citi.

Now, I realize this is going to sound like it’s coming from a very biased Mets fan - which it probably is, lol - but I have to say the design for Citi Field just completely blows away the design of the new Yankee Stadium. I mean, why are they even bothering in the Bronx? After looking at both designs this morning, the new Yankee Stadium will still look like an ominous mausoleum and imho, the design is extraordinarily uncreative and merely a (very expensive) revision of the old joint. At this rate (Steingrabber’s greedy need for more luxury boxes notwithstanding), they could’ve just painted the existing place and added new JumboTrons!

Kudos to the Wilpons for doing a much, much better job.
