what was especially depressing was the phils reaction after the win.

i fear we’ve fed the beast even more.

    I agree Shea.
I love Beltran. His glove is TREMENDOUS and when he hits he is awesome.
Its when he doesnt hit, like when it counts, with 2 outs and RISP or with RISP..

    Sorry Zod. No hard feelings.

And no cracks about Beltrans tremendous glove ;D

That stadium erupted last night after Victorino hit. The foul mouth ####ers were into it.

  4. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 2:05 pm (#750372)

Yes, I agree about beltran’s glove. I wouldn’t want to give that up.

I thought of you last night Doc knowing you were there. I’m sure it was ugly. And yes, we fed the beast. It could get ugly!

  5. Comment posted by Dep on July 5, 2008 at 2:13 pm (#750373)

ahhhhhh, you were there Doc? now i get it.

damn yo, that sucks, that makes it even crappier!

  6. Comment posted by Bob Loblaw on July 5, 2008 at 2:50 pm (#750376)

I’m still a Beltran fan. However, I think it’s time to put him in the 2 hole for a bit. That seems to be where he’s happiest.

    Reyes
    Beltran
    Wright
    Church
    Easley
    Delgado
    Castro
    Endy

    Yep, Deppy.

  8. Comment posted by Doc believes! on July 5, 2008 at 2:59 pm (#750379)

Beltran has the numbers of a 4 hitter but the approach of a 2 hitter. I wouldn’t mind him batting 2.

  9. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 3:00 pm (#750380)

I’ve been asking to get him out of the clean up spot for awhile now. It’s not where he belongs and I truly believe he’s not comfortable there.

  10. Comment posted by Doc believes! on July 5, 2008 at 3:02 pm (#750381)

The problem is the Mets don’t have anyone who is suited to bat fourth. I’m not a fan of the DW their either and with Delgado decline he can’t hit there.

  11. Comment posted by bcuster on July 5, 2008 at 3:03 pm (#750382)

i have been in davey wright country for days (computerless). any interesting trade rumors?

  12. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 3:09 pm (#750384)

    No custer. Nothing!

Doc, I agree we don’t have a clean up hitter, but I honesly would rather see Church there than Beltran. Clean up hitters don’t come up with men on base thinking bunt. Sorry! But that’s just me.

  13. Comment posted by Dep on July 5, 2008 at 3:10 pm (#750385)

    I like Bob’s lineup

i doubt we’ll see it though!

  14. Comment posted by bcuster on July 5, 2008 at 3:22 pm (#750387)

well, as much as i enjoy interleague play vs the you-know-who’s, this game here tonight has much more significance for our ‘08 hopes. we just cannot let philthes regain the upper-hand, just cannot

oh and p.s. i despise saturday night games..

  15. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 3:28 pm (#750388)

We won’t see it dep. You’re right. Too bad.
And if Mr. Maine insists on giving up 3 runs in the first, we’re screwed.

  16. Comment posted by Grand Inquisitor Ramon on July 5, 2008 at 3:51 pm (#750390)

Bob’s lineup is pretty sweet actually.

  17. Comment posted by Grand Inquisitor Ramon on July 5, 2008 at 3:53 pm (#750391)

The Mets must be desperate for 2nd base help in the the near future if they are planning on trying Dan Murphy at 2nd. I am interested in seeing if he can handle the position competantly, because if he does he seems to have enough of a bat to stick there.

  18. Comment posted by Doc believes! on July 5, 2008 at 4:02 pm (#750392)

If Kelly Johnson can do it why not Murphy.

Murphy playing second doesnt sound too bad. Hes young enough, so maybe he can pick it up quick. If the kid wants to make it im sure he will bust his butt learning the position

Does Rollins even realize Jose is as good as he is already?

  23. Comment posted by metswin2008 on July 5, 2008 at 4:47 pm (#750397)

Ha, yea I love the denial he is in. Oh, Jose is what I was when I sucked. Gee, Mr Rollins thanks for the vote of confidence, I hope you go 0-13 and continue to be better than Jose

  24. Comment posted by Doc believes! on July 5, 2008 at 4:47 pm (#750398)

Material Boy grazed by a pitch to load the bases.

  25. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 4:48 pm (#750399)

By the way, Jose’s “horrible” season last year was as good as almost any season Rollins has had, save his MVP season.

  26. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 4:49 pm (#750400)

Does Rollins even realize Jose is as good as he is already?

Somehow I don’t see that as the issue. Nobody wants to give Rollins credit for anything. We certainly are “met”rocentric…aren’t we? Like my word?

  27. Comment posted by metswin2008 on July 5, 2008 at 4:51 pm (#750401)

    “met”rocentric

When I look that up in the dictionary will I see a picture of Mr Mets big head? lol

  28. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 4:52 pm (#750402)

I didn’t read the article that way at all. People always refuse to give any credit where credit is due to another team’s player. It had nothing to do with who was better. It had everything to do with learning to grow up.

  29. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 4:52 pm (#750403)

    you will indeed, 2008….lol!

  30. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 4:56 pm (#750404)

Shea, the problem I have is why Jose has to “grow” into Jimm Rollins. Rollins was a disappoint up until he started hitting for legit power in 2006. At the same time, Jose was already having a better season than any Rollins has except for the 2007 MVP season. The only reason Jose has to “look up” to Rollins is because the voters decided his MVP type season was more worthy for the award than Jose’s the year before.

And, having lived in Philly for years during Rollins development, I called bullsh## on his “I’ve gone through what Jose is”. Rollins NEVER went through this kind of media scrutiny. Rollins was never called the scapegoat, the crowds were never on him. You know who actually knows how Jose feels? Pat Burrell. He was the Philadelphia whipping boy for all those years of underachievement.

That’s why I call BS on Rollins. I’m not saying he’s not an above average player. But to think he has some sort of insight on Jose who is both a better player than he is PLUS is under more media scrutiny than anything Rollins went through…. it’s pure “I’m an adult” BS.

  31. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:10 pm (#750405)

Lunk, you’re hate for Rollins is blinding you. Stop. Shipgel is not saying Reyes has to grow into and become Rollins. He’s saying Reyes will be fine. His premise is that some players go through some hard times times and mature slower. That’s all this is about. You’re making it into something it isn’t….

  32. Comment posted by metswin2008 on July 5, 2008 at 5:14 pm (#750406)

I just wanna see the Keith Hernandez-Jose Reyes celebrity death match. Im going with Keith. Hes an 11 time gold glover with 2 rings, but the biggest thing he won was being smoke free. I think this is why he wins ;-)

  33. Comment posted by metswin2008 on July 5, 2008 at 5:16 pm (#750407)

Im “met”rocentric. I admit it. I do not deny this. I hate all that is not blue and orange. Shoot, from playing the Cards I now hate white people. lol

  34. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:17 pm (#750408)

    LOL, 2008!

  35. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 5:19 pm (#750409)

Shea, I think you’re misunderstanding me entirely. What I’m getting it is that the comparison between Jose and Rollins’ maturity processes and going through the fans and media tearing into them is bunk. Rollins never went through that. And the writer comparing Rollins and Jose is suggesting that. What I’m suggesting is, if you want to make a comparison of sluggers that went through tons of media hate to progress into great hitters, Burrell is BY FAR the better choice. Rollins was essentially bulletproof throughout his maturation process. In fact, when the Phillies were consistently underachieving, the media would ALWAYS give the caveat that at least Rollins was giving it his all.

  36. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 5:31 pm (#750410)

And, no, I don’t harbor a specific hatred for Rollins. It’s a general Phillies hatred. But I give credit where credit is due and Burrell is was the scapegoat and he’s certainly pushed through it.

  37. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:34 pm (#750411)

I get what you’re saying Lunk. I didn’t live in Philly ( I know you did) so I’ll bow to your knowledege. My point simply was that Shipgel seems to be one of the few writers who gets that Jose will be fine and all of this will pass. I think that’s the most important aspect of the piece. The rest is puff imo.

  38. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 5:38 pm (#750412)

Definitely, I appreciate the point Jose will work through it. Like I said, I don’t like the artificial touting Rollins gets when there’s a member on his team that continues to get a complete lack of respect (BTW, the Phillies best hitter this year is Burrell, not Utley).

  39. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:38 pm (#750413)

Now that we’re friends again, can i ask you a computer question….lol. When my monitor comes on the last few days, it flickers until it finally stays on…..maybe 2 minutes or so. My computer is fine. Is it time for a new monitor? it’s a MAG LCD and about 6 or 7 years old, I think.

  40. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 5:40 pm (#750414)

I was about to ask if it was a tube monitor (old style) because that’s what the problem sounded like but when you said LCD….. Sounds like there’s some wiring bad mojo going on in the monitor. Honestly, it could do that for ten years or it might stop working tomorrow. Safest to get a new monitor.

And you know, no matter how much we argue, we’re still friends. METS FANS FO LYFE!!!!

  41. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:42 pm (#750415)

Thanks, Lunk. I know we’ll always be friends. I wasn’t worried in the least ;-)

  42. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 5:44 pm (#750416)

Not always! If you manage to convince Lorraine to leave me for some young hunk, I might have to reevaluate. :)

  43. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 5:49 pm (#750418)

    hahaha, lunk. Never!

The LCD backlight will start to give out after 5-6 years of moderate to heavy use.

  45. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 6:01 pm (#750420)

PHL, could be shorter. She’s got an older monitor if it’s 7 years old.

  46. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 6:05 pm (#750421)

Plus, I had a MAG LCD at one point. It wasn’t long for this world.

  47. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 6:09 pm (#750422)

Thanks guys. I’ll go get a new one tomorrow.

  48. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 5, 2008 at 6:14 pm (#750424)

As a matter of fact, I’ll order one now and pick it up tmorrow.

  49. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on July 5, 2008 at 6:19 pm (#750425)
