Thats 2 gems now vs the Yankees Mookie. Could be what he needed to get hiim going. Nothing like the Big stage to gain some confidence

A few walks and one mistake pitch… that’s it.

Ollie had a mostly great night.

Great game all around (well, except for the announcers) - does anything look better in HD than a Mets win?

  8. Comment posted by sarah on May 18, 2008 at 11:17 pm (#697768)

Very nice game! Now we need to keep building on these two games. Maybe get an actual winning streak going!

The last 2 days is what were capable of gang. Thats the way this team can play. It aggravates me that we played crappy before. Hopefully, this jump starts us for many good things to come.

  11. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:19 pm (#697771)

Funny he couldnt gut it out and finish the 8th though shea. Guess ole Billy was right ;-)

2008 - it’s such a mystery to me though. I mean, even though PIT sucks, you’d think he would have been pumped up against his old team. But i’ll say this, he has dominated the Yanks and Braves and that certainly says something.

I just wish the rainout didn’t push him out of the braves series this week :(

  14. Comment posted by sheadenizen on May 18, 2008 at 11:21 pm (#697774)

Okay…now let’s all keep our fingers crossed that this is the turning point of the season.

    I wasn’t downplaying, shea.

LOL at the text I just got from a Red Sox fan:

“Hey - they managed to score 2 runs. That’s pretty good.”

  17. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:24 pm (#697777)

agreed shea - the next 4 days will be pretty telling as well…if they lose 3 of 4 (or more), they are right back where they were after the last time we thought they were pulling out of it.

But I think this time it’s for real - they’re back! (fingers still crossed)

  18. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:25 pm (#697778)

Yea, that does kinds stink huh? Wouldve been nice to see him go up against the Braves as well. Oh well. Hopefully, we can keep this thing going. I know were capable of putting together a nice streak. This team is really good if its on all cylanders. And with Pedro back the rotation will be the best in all of baseball.

true 2008, if he can pitch > 5 innings. If he is too limited, it will really tax the bullpen… what’s his time table anyway?

Ha, Church on SNY “i didn’t see the replay, was it a HR?” reporter: “Yes” Church: “oh well, we won anyway”

  21. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:28 pm (#697781)

If the Mets go on a tear now, I will personally send Mike Reilly a box of the finest cigars for his birthday :)

Obviously they have to keep this going against those divisional rivals, but these last two games have been very encouraging. How about piling on like that - that was terrific!

  26. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:29 pm (#697786)

    hi 71!!

  27. Comment posted by sheadenizen on May 18, 2008 at 11:30 pm (#697787)

I liked when they guy asked Church about his catch. “You gotta go it. That’s what your taught!”….loved it!

Ha, yea, I really got a kick out of Church’s interview, mookie. Man, hes becoming one of my favorite players. I definately want a church jersey now. Im so glad Omar pulled that off. Genious!!

makes it even sweeter, sarah, that they beat Pettitte AND Wang (”best pitcher in the AL”) in the same weekend :-)

    I know 2008 - me too! I love him…how can you not?!

I especially liked his comment in the post today about how he has run into a wall to make a game saving catch and would do it again. He said even if he was injured it would be worth it if it saved the game.

I know I’ll probably get ripped if I say I prefer Church’s attitude over they guy he replaced, so I won’t say it, lol :)

  43. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:35 pm (#697803)

Yea, I saw that in the post. I was one of the few that liked the trade. Dont get me wrong, I like Milo too. I was never down on him and thought he got a bad rap around here but I just had a feeling Church would be good. He was a proven player. I had no idea he would be THIS good though, lol

  44. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:36 pm (#697804)

Figgy was tagged for 3 runs in one inning of relief recently in AAA!!i dunno about him!

  46. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:36 pm (#697806)

I also really liked that we got Schnieder b/c we havent had a catcher that could throw out runners since well, probably John Sterns, lol

  47. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:37 pm (#697807)

my own personal jury is still out on Milo (if that makes any sense, lol)

  48. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:38 pm (#697808)

i know, totally agree on the trade. I was optimistic about it but no one expected THIS from church - and schneider for that matter!

LOL at Delgado: “The ump said it was foul…not exactly breaking news, sorry!”

  49. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:38 pm (#697809)

Dep said the other day he had issues with Schneider’s defense…..I don’t see why

  50. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:38 pm (#697810)

Wow that sucks for Figs. I hope they give him another shot. Maybe hes just down from being demoted. I wouldnt mind seeing him pitch again. Hey, better then Lima, lol

well bostick got beat up the other day, so i doubt he’ll be called up. Could be armas

  53. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:39 pm (#697813)

Well, the ball is popping out of his mitt alot though. I thought Darling said it was probably b/c he missed alot of time and just needs some playing time under his feet. I remember playing against him he had a gun.

  54. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:41 pm (#697814)

I assume Vargas. He pitched very well his first start.

  55. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:41 pm (#697815)

he was also breaking in a new mitt earlier this season and said that was causing the ball popping out of the mitt. but he threw it out.

I’d say it has a bit to do with being unfamiliar with these pitchers. he was out for a while too so he hasn’t caught the pitchers too many times yet

  56. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:42 pm (#697816)

Booey, this isnt the 1st time you figured that out is it? lol.
I dont even watch or listen to him anymore. I just get so mad. I will probably listen for a bit tommorrow but I really try not to turn him on. Its like damed if we do, damned if we dont. No matter what hes gonna take his jabs against us

  57. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:43 pm (#697817)

I assume Vargas. He pitched very well his first start.

oh i was thinking they needed another pitcher in addition to vargas. if vargas doesn’t blow up on tues, def give him another start

Figgy was tagged for 3 runs in one inning of relief recently in AAA!!i dunno about him!

But someone has to pitch . . . Tony Armas has been doing a nice job lately . According to here Figgy has made two relief appearances for NO in which he’s been unscored upon. Not sure if either of those guys is on the 40-man roster.

  60. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:45 pm (#697820)

i know it’s only 2 games, but lots of encouraging signs this weekend:

Reyes, Wright going the other way (and showing a lot of fire tonight in the dugout and when he scored), Schneider’s block at the plate on Damon, Church’s defense and his bomb tonight….the mostly solid pitching….all in all, good crisp baseball

and i can’t WAIT for all the Yankee lame ass excuses tomorrow, ie, no Arod, no Posada….they sucked when those guys WERE healthy!! lol

  61. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:45 pm (#697821)

Yea, true. We’ll have to see how he does the tuesday. If he does well then he’ll probably get the nod. Kinda feel bad for Figs but thats how it goes. Maybe he can catch on in the pen

  62. Comment posted by cp on May 18, 2008 at 11:46 pm (#697822)

I assume Vargas. He pitched very well his first start.

oh i was thinking they needed another pitcher in addition to vargas. if vargas doesn’t blow up on tues, def give him another start

They do need another starter - Vargas is going Tuesday - they won’t have anyone w/4 days rest for the Saturday game in Colorado. They could turn to Maine or Vargas on 3 days rest if one bombs - sure hope that doesn’t happen.

  63. Comment posted by MetsFanSince71 on May 18, 2008 at 11:46 pm (#697823)

71, All I heard yesterday was how “if we win 2 its not a sweep” and “well were missing our two best hitter”. Man, yankee fans hate to lose to us. When they kicked our butts, I tipped my cap and handled it.

  66. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:48 pm (#697826)

yea cp, you’re right - i was right the first time around, haha. stupid DHs are really screwing up the rotation. who would they DFA to add another starter? would be a shame if they were forced to dfa vargas

  67. Comment posted by mookie03 on May 18, 2008 at 11:49 pm (#697827)

    ‘night 71!

    I’m out too all

Good to hear from you 71. Take care.

Yea, I think your right cp. That does make sense that we would need another arm. Maybe Figs will get another shot then.

  69. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:50 pm (#697829)

Wow, Yea it would. I dunno who they would DFA. Thats a tough call right there. Hmmmm

  70. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 18, 2008 at 11:51 pm (#697830)

Im out too. Gotta get up sort of early. Nice win, im definately happy.

  71. Comment posted by Miggy Mango on May 18, 2008 at 11:51 pm (#697832)

cp those earned runs were today so it probably doesnt show on there yet!

  72. Comment posted by cp on May 18, 2008 at 11:52 pm (#697831)

who would they DFA to add another starter? would be a shame if they were forced to dfa vargas

I don’t recall them adding anyone to the 40-man when they DFA’d Nellie & Sosa - wasn’t Vargas already on it? Even if he wasn’t that would only be one slot so the other slot could go to the Saturday starter. I’d guess they might then have to send either Smith or Vargas down to NO - Smith has options but I don’t know if Vargas does or not.

  73. Comment posted by cp on May 18, 2008 at 11:54 pm (#697833)

Don’t think so Miggy - that line showed todays game and here is the box score for today’s Zephyr’s game that shows him w/0 runs, 1 walk, 1 hit, 1k in 1.1 ip.

  74. Comment posted by cp on May 18, 2008 at 11:56 pm (#697834)

Diaz was charged w/3 runs but Figgy got a BS - I’m guessing they brought Figgy in w/2 outs & bases jammed & he gave up a hit or a walk that scored a run that would have been charged to Diaz. Then he got the 3rd out & was scoreless in the following inning he worked.

  75. Comment posted by Miggy Mango on May 18, 2008 at 11:56 pm (#697835)

Wait!! the runs were unearned!they where inherited!!mybad!!!lol
