I want Willie to throw a chair or something.

Something demonstrative. Next bad call, throw bats out onto the field and get ejected.

    Has Willie EVER been ejected?

NFL investigators have met with a convicted steroids dealer, who has said he provided performance-enhancing drugs to professional football players, according to a newspaper report.

David Jacobs pleaded guilty last year in federal court to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute anabolic steroids and was sentenced to probation on May 1. He has said he sold steroids and human growth hormone to NFL offensive lineman Matt Lehr and another NFL player. He also said the players he provided performance-enhancing drugs supplied them to other NFL players.

The New York Times reported in Friday’s edition that Jacobs said NFL investigators visited him the day after he was sentenced.

“They wanted to know what information I had and what other documentary evidence I could provide them with,” Jacobs told the Times. “I told them I was not going to talk specifics without my lawyer present. They wanted to know a list of players I dealt with and knew, and I told them I didn’t feel comfortable doing that.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to the Times that the league’s investigators met with Jacobs and said future meetings were scheduled.

Lehr’s attorney has denied his client ever sold steroids or HGH. He said the player hasn’t used banned substances since he was suspended for four games during the 2006 season while playing for Atlanta, and has passed NFL drug tests.

The St. Louis Cardinals put struggling closer Jason Isringhausen, who has an 8.00 ERA and six blown saves, on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of a cut on his pitching hand.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported last weekend that Isringhausen hurt his right hand striking a television set in frustration in manager Tony La Russa’s office.

Izzy still ain’t the brightest bulb after all these years.

I don’t think getting ejected is a measure of how good or bad a manager is.
Francesa even mentioned that Gil Hodges and Walt Alston never ever got ejected. I’d take either one of them as my manager.

  37. Comment posted by Where have you gone John Olerud? on May 16, 2008 at 4:41 pm (#695616)

Yes, if its the difference between the playoffs and elimination…like it was last year.

  38. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on May 16, 2008 at 4:41 pm (#695617)

I agree Shea. People in these parts like the manager to kick dirt and act like an ass. It doesn’t bother me that’s not Willie style.

  39. Comment posted by Dep on May 16, 2008 at 4:42 pm (#695618)

i have no problem with it either, i think its BS to the most part

BUT, if players feel he doesnt have their back on the field cuz of stuff like that, then its a problem. who knows if they do.

  40. Comment posted by Where have you gone John Olerud? on May 16, 2008 at 4:42 pm (#695620)

Yes, if its the difference between the playoffs and elimination…like it was last year.

so, by your logic, 1 interview could mean #### because it could inspire a team to win 1 game, which could be the difference b/w the playoffs and elimination.

Just a point of interest, I listened to some of Wagner’s spot with Michael Kay out of curiosity - and it sounds like he essentially called Wright the team captain.

Not that it matters, but that’s the first time anyone has said that he is the guy rather than he could/should/would be the guy if he wasn’t young.

Nice. I respect you rooted for the underdog. Is basbeball well respected in Germany and Austria.

BTW, I visted Salzburg. I absolutely loved it there. Maybe the highlight of my trip to Europe.

  66. Comment posted by grex in austria on May 16, 2008 at 5:27 pm (#695645)

actually its not really respected. the main reason is that there arent many places to play, so its very tough for kids to play. here it goes like soccer, skiing, tennis, basketball,… and then baseball. actually football is getting more and more popular in the last few years.

yeah salzburg is a very beautiful city, home of mozart and much more. glad to hear you liked it in austria. you went to vienna too?

  67. Comment posted by Where have you gone John Olerud? on May 16, 2008 at 5:38 pm (#695647)

What happened in Austria? Please do tell.

the whole incest #### which took place about 10 minutes from where i live and i passed by that place so often that it still makes me sick. and on tuesday some idiot killed his whole family because he lost a few thousand euros in speculations. pretty weird #### that normally doesnt happen in years, happened in a small time frame.

on the positive side, the european soccer championship starts in about 3 weeks…

Omar was on SNY a few minutes ago and was feeding us the same fuqing kool-aid he fed us last year. Bottom line is he never sees the urgency in anything. He’s a salesman, and he’s not going to chit all over his own product. Even last September there was no urgency. He should have said what Hill-Billy said. That’s his job!
