Claudio Vargas vs Tim Redding

    ramon - right now, no.
when the offense clicks, yes. it is as good as any in the league

    \

That’s circular. Of course when an offense clicks it can score runs. The question is whether or not you see our offense, as it has played this season, doing this?

I rememeber Henderson had these 12-15 pitch Ab’s and then walk. You know what that does to a pitcher, lol

this is exactly the kind of game why the W/L stat is just accounting bullshit in baseball.

Vargas gets tagged for that 2nd run fine, 2-1, he’s on the hook.

Heils makes it 5-1 ALL ON HIS OWN. all 3 charged to him. 5-1

we get up to 3. and Vargas still gets the L.

    its retarded.

    Henderson
    Alfonzo
    Olerud
    Piazza
    Ventura

Was as patient a 1-5 this franchise had ever seen. I loved that top of the order.

No doubt Dep. I always thought it was one of the most underrated stats in baseball. It did help my Steve Traschel arguement a little though, lol

of course, the yankees hitting coach when they wore out pitchers is canonized now.

you all remember how Down we were on Rick last year though, no?

I think hockey gets that concept, because I’m pretty sure the goalie who allows the ‘game winner’ officially gets the loss, though those situations are much rarer.

  11. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 14, 2008 at 10:23 pm (#693379)

Hey I loved Downs. Reminded me of my drunken Uncle, lol

Down got more credit than he deserved for the Yankees and more blame than he deserved when he was with the Mets, too. Oh well.

Exactly dep - i think it should be the official scorer’s decision if more than 1 pitcher pitch in the inning where the opposing team takes the lead. 9 times out of 10 i’d give the loss to the starter, but in rare occasions like this, the pitcher REALLY didn’t deserve the loss

  16. Comment posted by metswin2008 on May 14, 2008 at 10:24 pm (#693383)

Yea, that top 5 would give pitchers fits.
This line up has potential. It always seems like somethings missing with us though

  17. Comment posted by Hiro Protagonist on May 14, 2008 at 10:25 pm (#693384)

Down left the Yankees after 95 and didnt come back until 2002. Kinda funny they had their great right right in between. ;)

Yea poor Vargas pitched his @ss off and he gets a loss. Thats a shame

my question is, why am I hearing Church praising Hojo endlessly for his improvements and every other hitter is struggling more than they have at any other time in their careers. Aside from Schneider and Church, everyone is underperforming offensively (I’m omitting moises from that b/c he just came back)

  27. Comment posted by I am the Chinatown Chicken. Anybody don’t like it, they just have to deal with it. on May 14, 2008 at 10:27 pm (#693392)

Our lineup doesn’t adopt the general philosophy that the more pitches you see from a pitcher in an ab, the better off the offense will be. Hitters like Reyes, Church, Beltran, Delgado, Alou are all very good hitters but they are very aggresive types who look for their pitch and attack it.

Im just really depressed. I had such high hopes that we would just dominate from start to finish. Maybe we’ll get hot down the stretch when it counts.

it is very frustrating to see this team struggle against a team like the nats and do well against “stronger” teams.

i wish I knew why this was so.

    I’m out for the night.

    have a good one all.

this team is just mediocre and has been for the last 150+ games, it’s the same old story for the mets

This team is not as bad as they’ve looked at times this season. They are definitely better than they’ve looked this week… And there’s plenty of baseball to be played… CHIN UP!!!

  42. Comment posted by john on May 14, 2008 at 10:33 pm (#693406)

    oh bs.

I dont wanna hear he HAD to use Heilman…..he ended up using show and felciano as well, i do not want to hear he was short.

  44. Comment posted by john on May 14, 2008 at 10:36 pm (#693408)

This isnt the same mets team tho. I know you think it is but honestly we won 88 games last season…..we added santana….we are a 90+ win team that just hasnt found our stride yet

  45. Comment posted by littlefallsmets on May 14, 2008 at 10:43 pm (#693409)

When absolutely everyone is 100% healthy, they’ve got a nice little offense that would eventually let Beltran and Reyes relax and start hitting consistently again.

The problem is… there’s just so much age IN that 100% healthy line-up that… it’s not going to happen often or for long when it does.

I figured it might not be the Mets night when Beltran laced that ball with men on first and second into the DP to Zimmerman.

  49. Comment posted by pj on May 14, 2008 at 11:08 pm (#693413)

i figured it wasn’t going to be the mets night when i saw the matchup. we had our chances though.

Wow, was watching a little post game before hitting the hay. Did anyone see were Manny Rameriz caught a flyball, high fived a fan and then threw the runner out for a double play? Manny being Manny, lol

Fernando pulled after sliding into 2nd tonight. Says he heard a pop but thinks it’s only a day or two. Hope he’s right, he missed 50 games his 1st season & 65 his 2nd season. Tough th develop when you’re only playing 1/2 seasons.
