How do we have a 16 year-old playing for the VSL Mets?

Hopefully he’ll be ready by the time Castillo’s contract comes off the books

That´s why he´s in the VSL. Different laws apply. Ruben Tejada is 18 in the FSL, and played last year and the year before in the VSL.

Does anyone know which VSL players were the top signings from last year’s class? I believe Omar signed 15 or so foreign players…

Also what’s gotten into Eddie Kunz? Something has changed in the last few weeks. He appeared to be a bust last year and early this year, but his recent results are encouraging (last 8IP, 4Hits, 5BBs, 1ER, 6Ks)… Did he develop a new pitch?

My understanding of the rules is that you can’t play guys professionally until they are 17. You can sign them at 16, but can’t play them until 17.

How about some appreciation for the fine job by Willie Collazo? A set-up man who presumably got the start at the last minute because Vargas was called up, he threw 7 innings and allowed only 2 runs. I’ll bet his arm feels like a block of cement this morning.
