the most important thing to do in baseball is not make outs.

Another important thing is four your cleanup man to hit with RISP. Especially on this team.

Why don’t we wait to see how many HR’s he hits this year with increased drug testing. I heard on Mike and Mike this morning, that HR’s will be down by 1,000 since 2006 since the drug testing and Mitchell report have come into existence. Shocked, right….lol!

it’s funny that this seems to have affected the AL much worse
    so far

dont forget that almost 50% of those that have been caught so far has been PITCHERS.

Average velocity is at its lowest since 2002 as well.

so hitters are probly beating up on non-roided pitchers a bit to even out the runs scored.

The National League is on a pace for less than 300 less homeruns.

The American League is on a pace for a little more than 300 less homeruns.

Of course, all of that is tough to say considering homeruns become more plentiful as the air warms. So this pace will probably increase.

I mean the strikezone. Does anyone watch old Mets classics games? I can’t believe what used be called for strikes in 2000 alone?

they were saying that teams that play small ball and use speed, hit and run etc will fare better than those clubs that use the HR to win games. And they cited detroit as an example of teams that may suffer in this “post steroid” era.

That’s a little unfair. No one in baseball thinks Miguel or Ordonez roid it up and they’re the main keys to the lineup. Moreover, Detroit’s main problem has been their pitching, specifically their young pitchers.

I’ll give you Sheffield and I-Rod. But both of them are old (Sheffield 39, I-Rod a catching 36). So the amount they could have been counted on in the first place was pretty small. In my mind, the key hitters on this team are Cabrera, Guillen, Ordonez, and Granderson. I don’t see anyone accusing those guys of PED use.

I didn’t know she had it in her, and I’m still trying to figure out where she learned it. Oh, I guess you would like to know who and what I’m talking about. So, this breakup that you have been hearing about in the past couple of days? You know the big one. Anyway, from what I have been told, the reason they broke up is because she was too kinky for him. Her? I know. Unbelievable. What I guess finally drove him away was the fact that she is a big fan of erotic asphyxiation. She loves having it done to her to the point of passing out. He tried it once. Freaked him out, so he left because she wanted it most of the time. What I can’t figure out is who taught it to her? I doubt she reads so someone must have done it with her.

Those are the same guys that said the same thing about the Billy Beane A’s teams and touted how teams like the Angels would win the World Series using small ball. Meanwhile, the Angels would actually win with three run homeruns, timely hits, and good pitcher which is exactly the kind of baseball Billy Beane was talking about.

These same idiots hated Earl Weaver for doing the same stuff. Idiots all.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt came home from their extra fancy Monaco trip last night, but they spent the day on a yacht owned by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft (net worth – 16.8 billion). Pax and Maddox climbed all around his helicopter and rode jet skis all day. After that they used big bags with dollar signs on them as pillows during a nap, then had a diamond fight on a pterodactyl. Presumably.

The first major review is now out, from the London Times Online, and they thankfully give it 2 stars out of 5. the BP article did a comparison year to year only thru 5/10.

the drop in the AL is tangible.

Pedro goes four in simulated game

Pedro Martinez tossed a four-inning, 55-pitch simulated game today in Port St. Lucie. GM Omar Minaya was hesitant to provide an exact timetable, but suggested another simulated game of 75-80 pitches in five days may be realistic before doing a rehab start with the St. Lucie Mets.

That places Martinez at least 15 days away from returning to the Mets, though that’s probably the rosiest projection.

Martinez fielded a bunt and covered first base, Minaya said.

    5. Offense. I threw out a notion to our internal list last week that it felt—just in watching way too much baseball—like offense was down this year. With a month’s action now in the books, here’s what we have:

AL AVG OBP SLG ISO R/G
    April 2008 .260 .334 .398 .138 9.04
    April 2007 .255 .327 .404 .149 9.36

NL AVG OBP SLG ISO R/G
    April 2008 .256 .331 .404 .148 9.11
    April 2007 .258 .332 .400 .142 9.31

It’s a peculiar thing. The elements of offense are not really down—the triple-slash stats in each league are essentially the same. My personal thought—that power seemed to be down and that it appeared fly balls weren’t going for extra-base hits—isn’t borne out all that well by the data. On the other hand, despite this, run scoring is down a fair amount: about three percent in the AL, and two percent in the NL. This could be a blip, but I’m having trouble understanding why rates would remain the same while scoring would decline. This will require more study as the season plays out, but it’s something to watch, especially because while all declines in power will be laid at the feet of the changes in approach to PEDs, the actual reasons for something like this are usually more subtle.

Interesting. A fair non-conclusion by Sheehan and Burke.

I could swear I read those numbers are wrong. The AL is down .16 runs and the NL up .16 runs per game. Its even from last year
