Eric Simon has far too much time on his hands. He sleeps upside-down, keeps people as pets, and can be found on the internets at
Amazin' Avenue or bothered directly at
eric@metsgeek.com.
Another important thing is four your cleanup man to hit with RISP. Especially on this team.
Why don’t we wait to see how many HR’s he hits this year with increased drug testing. I heard on Mike and Mike this morning, that HR’s will be down by 1,000 since 2006 since the drug testing and Mitchell report have come into existence. Shocked, right….lol!
absolutely ramon. and listen i may like dunn more than most, but i’ve already said i agree he does NOT fit well with this team.
And yet runs scored are still at their previous level…
it’s funny that this seems to have affected the AL much worse
so far
dont forget that almost 50% of those that have been caught so far has been PITCHERS.
Average velocity is at its lowest since 2002 as well.
so hitters are probly beating up on non-roided pitchers a bit to even out the runs scored.
The National League is on a pace for less than 300 less homeruns.
I also think the strike this year is sooo much smaller than it has ever been. Its amazing how the damn thing shrinks from year to year.
The American League is on a pace for a little more than 300 less homeruns.
Of course, all of that is tough to say considering homeruns become more plentiful as the air warms. So this pace will probably increase.
I mean the strikezone. Does anyone watch old Mets classics games? I can’t believe what used be called for strikes in 2000 alone?
so are his strikeouts!
i dont know, the zone last night seemed pretty huge.
i think the zone is as inconsistent as ever.
Zod did you watch games before Questec came around?
You know what’s fun? Watching the Livan Hernandez/Eric Gregg Marlins playoff game.
THAT’S a strikezone.
i dont know what questec is
they were saying that teams that play small ball and use speed, hit and run etc will fare better than those clubs that use the HR to win games. And they cited detroit as an example of teams that may suffer in this “post steroid” era.
How old are you again?
That’s a little unfair. No one in baseball thinks Miguel or Ordonez roid it up and they’re the main keys to the lineup. Moreover, Detroit’s main problem has been their pitching, specifically their young pitchers.
Well, this explains it all. Here is so info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuesTec
so, did i watch baseball games before 2001? yes.
Notice how you didn’t put Gary Sheffield or Ivan Rodriguez in your counterargument. Hmmmm….
hahahah I got no problem calling Sheffield a roider or I-Rod but I don’t either of them are at particular fault for Detroit’s collapse.
To paraphrase: it’s the pitching, stupid.
How about Pudge and Sheffield? Do they count?
And you don’t know what Questec is? How can I seriously take your opinion of the evolution of the ML strikezone seriously if you don’t have an understanding of how the ML commissioner’s office has tried to fundamentally alter it since then?
uh oh…Ramon and I had the same thought….lol!
hahahah, You’re doom, Shea. DOOMED!!!!!
Too late, already grilled him on it. :)
Hehe. Well in all truth, Rene did leave himself wide open for that. It was a slam dunk.
1. maybe i knew the commisioner’s office had tried to fundamentally alter the zone, but i didnt remember the word “questec.” after reading some of the wikipedia article, i remembered.
2. suck it
3. seriously
Today’s pitcher works with such a tiny zone, its inconceivable to me how greats like Peavy, Webb, Santana, Carpenter etc. do it.
A must-read about offense being down:

Hey, I didn’t duck the question. I fired right back. Give me some cred, bro.
LOL! Don’t get mad at me because you fell flat on your face there junior.
how? how did i fall flat on my face? what the hell are you talking about?
No doubt, Rene. But then again, you picked a losing battle with Detroit. That team has some characters there with a certain “history” regarding performance enhancers.
LOL! Ok, you didn’t fall flat on your face. I take it back.
P.S. NOT!
I’ll give you Sheffield and I-Rod. But both of them are old (Sheffield 39, I-Rod a catching 36). So the amount they could have been counted on in the first place was pretty small. In my mind, the key hitters on this team are Cabrera, Guillen, Ordonez, and Granderson. I don’t see anyone accusing those guys of PED use.
seriously, how can i take you seriously when you wont answer my question. seriously.
That BP article more than handles the PED claim for power being down.
in fact it spanks it quite thoroughly and laughs at it.
I’ll take a peanut butter and bacon sandwich, crunchy on the pb and crispy bacon, wheat toast for the bread, boilermaker to drink, smelling salts for revival after seeing Ramon and Shea agree on something
Fair enough, Rene.
Who pointed at Detroit and cried roids??
i bet its the same folks who wrote they’d score 1,000 runs this season and now look dumb for saying that and have to find a new perch.
You think I care if you take me seriously. I at least know what Questec is. LOL!
PWNED
later, geeks
hate you, ramon. seriously.
You know, if Ramon came to GeekDay, we could have a four way free-for-all.
It was a discussion on Mike and mike. Steve Phillips and Gammmons were involved as well. Someone brought up Detroit. Can’t recall who it was. I was reading the paper at the same time so I wasn’t hanging on every word.
No one accused anyone of roids. They said teams that depend on HR’s to score all they’re runs might not fare as well as teams that depend on defense, hit and run, speed….small ball, etc. Something like that.
*all their runs*
“hate you, ramon. seriously.”
LMAO!
There may be a legitimate context in which it can be said that Tony Romo is not a choker, if this blind item is about who I think it’s about:
http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2008/05/todays-blind-items_14.html
Well, at least you can admitt you were pwned.
Those are the same guys that said the same thing about the Billy Beane A’s teams and touted how teams like the Angels would win the World Series using small ball. Meanwhile, the Angels would actually win with three run homeruns, timely hits, and good pitcher which is exactly the kind of baseball Billy Beane was talking about.
These same idiots hated Earl Weaver for doing the same stuff. Idiots all.
Sorry for the politics, but rumors are milling that John Edwards is about to endorse Obama in Grand Rapids, MI.
LOL Jess. wow
that goes against a lot of what i’ve read about her n him, but that’s hilarious
Its funny Rene. If I were to see Zod in real life, face to face I wouldn’t care. Anyone who seriously hates a person over written words abot baseball in a blog is an imbecile.
i hate you cuz you smell!
hahahahahahahah
That would be true only I don’t think Zod means it when he says he hates you. It’s quite possible you thoroughly annoy him….
My money 2 to 1 that it was John Meyer.
I think he means it. Oh well…fuck him…LOL!
I would honestly think that Nick Lachey wanted her money.
so one day in the bedroom, she’s napping and Nick decides its time to end her and get his piece from the will. 2 hands on, choking begin.
she wakes up
he convinces her it was a sex thing
marriage continues.
I hope the Giants sent her a fruit basket. It’s the least they could do. She obviously had Romo all shook up.
What took him so long? Why bother? Maybe William Weld can finally give his McCain endorsement tomorrow.
Ramon, I don’t hate you. I just wish I could put you on ignore. I bet people feel the same way about me. Is it hatred? I don’t really hate anyone.
But do I believe that people can honestly hate someone legitimately just based on words.
lol @ record breakingly
Anyway, I go now. Later!
Joe Simpson (obviously)
Ashley
hahahahahahaha. i wouldnt be surprised, he’s creepy
oooooh. that’s kinda hot. ;)
“Every man has a Jessica Simpson fantasy. Here’s mine: Jessica, hold your sister Ashlee down so I can kick her in the throat!” — Dave Attell
Sheadenizen was on vacation so she missed Eric’s warning about keeping this place clean
hahahah, i like ashley more than jessica. pete wentz…really?
This bears repeating:
Of course, all of that is tough to say considering homeruns become more plentiful as the air warms. So this pace will probably increase.
Believe nothing, play the games. I wish there were league props to take advantage of this speculation.
LOL, I heart Ed. (nh)
the BP article did a comparison year to year only thru 5/10.
the drop in the AL is tangible.
Dep, are you referring to this?
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7454
naw this one
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7514
Castillo out again tonight.
Mr. E at 2B tonight
Interesting. A fair non-conclusion by Sheehan and Burke.
absolutely, i’m not sure there’s always is an “answer”
sometimes the #’s just are what they are
I could swear I read those numbers are wrong. The AL is down .16 runs and the NL up .16 runs per game. Its even from last year
