Nelson Figueroa vs John Smoltz

(Baseball-Reference.com Preview)

Eric Simon has far too much time on his hands. He sleeps upside-down, keeps people as pets, and can be found on the internets at Amazin' Avenue or bothered directly at eric@metsgeek.com.

he just turned 25 though - i wouldn’t totally write him off yet…apparently he fast-tracked his way through the Marlins system b/c of injuries (a regular mike pelfrey) but he was a top prospect for them at that point

Oh, when you said you were intrigued with Vargas. I thought you meant the one that did cartoons for playboy. ;)

he did ellis - he was even IBBed at one point!

  7. Comment posted by Ellis Dee on April 27, 2008 at 8:31 pm (#672124)

ha, the Braves felt threatened by D!

I figured he would catch some fortune at some point.
Didn’t think it would be so soon the way things were
    going. I’m NOT complaining!

well, I have to record my speech on the evolution of the starting pitcher. it is due at midnight central time so I got 4 1/2 hrs but should only need one or two hundred takes

You definatly need to talk about Nolan Ryan Chris. That dude was a freak of nature

Metswin - I think Liriano was sent to AAA.

    Del-Got-Two today eh?

    Nice win.

Oh Ok thats why he relesaed him. I guess I dont want him. Im so pitching starved that I was thinking of picking up Figs. I really just need wins, my era is good.
I did pick up Jugeen Lotion boy, lol

  15. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:39 pm (#672131)

ellis - the IBB was even before his 2nd HR! Tough luck for him now though, i think they’re facing a bunch of lefties this week. would be nice if he got hot

  16. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:40 pm (#672132)

I picked up Saunders and Volquez a week ago. So maybe it will turn around for me.
My offense on the team is sick. Chipper, Fielder, Tejada, Chase Utley

  17. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:40 pm (#672133)

2008 - who else is available? I just picked up Lannan and he has been great - but he is not gonna win too many games!

  18. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:42 pm (#672134)

wait, are there only 3 teams in your league?! how can you have that infield?

  19. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:42 pm (#672135)

I wouldnt be suprised to see Willie sit him again agaisnt a lefty. He is getting up there so a day off every now and then isnt going to hurt him

He hit his second HR off of a lefty.

That was the no doubter off the scoreboard too.

  23. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:44 pm (#672138)

Its 8 man league. They are mostly yankee fans. I thought there would be some mets fans in there being its called New York Basbeall, but yep, just me, lol. I also have some descent bats in the OF. Mclouth, Church and Burrell. I kick @ss in just about every offense category.

  24. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:47 pm (#672139)

See thats the thing Mookie, I need wins. Im dead last in wins, second to last in era and whip, so maybe picking him up would be smart. Were allowed way too many pitchers in this league which I dont like. Its hard to find any descenty pitchers.

  25. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:48 pm (#672140)

Oh yea, im dead last in steal too. Those big hitters dont run too much unfortunately, lol

  26. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:48 pm (#672141)

haha nice. I’m in a 12 team league, i was happy enough to get both DWright and Magglio.

    True that Future!

Wow, it looks like we are facing Owings, Webb and Haren next weekend - EEK!

  27. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:51 pm (#672142)

I agree - i hate that the high innings caps in my league - i think it makes it less competitive/strategic.

  28. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:51 pm (#672143)

Wow were going to have our hands full. I thought Owings got hurt when he hit that double. He came out of the game.

  29. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:53 pm (#672144)

Im in 3 all together. One was kinda given to me. My daughter wanted to do it. She had me help her out and we did a live draft and now she cant be bothered, lol

  30. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:54 pm (#672145)

he said he intended to make his next start, but we’ll see… sounds like it wont be our typical offensive burst at chase though

  31. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 8:56 pm (#672146)

haha that’s funny - so she’s one of THOSE managers!

  33. Comment posted by Future on April 27, 2008 at 8:58 pm (#672147)

Well Owings can hit really well but he’s not *that* spectacular as a pitcher. He has as a ND against us.

Haren also has no wins against us, but a sparkling 2.79 ERA.

Webb is 2-6 but an insanely good ERA as well. Lets keep the bad luck going.

  34. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 8:59 pm (#672148)

Yep, she did fantasy football in her math class and won it all, so she kind of thought it would be a good idea. But, now that its warming up and she can play outside she doesnt wanna deal with it, lol. She will ask how HER team is doing from time to time so I guess maybe shes the GM,lol

  35. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 9:05 pm (#672149)

good news future - i never thought owings was such a good pitcher, though he is off to a very good start. He’s certainly their #3, but he’s a pretty solid #3.

They also have a solid offense - but chase field has always been kind to the Mets. I’ll predict 2 of 3 for the mets - can we borrow Alay Soler for the weekend?

  36. Comment posted by mookie03 on April 27, 2008 at 9:08 pm (#672150)

She’s totally the GM! She drafts ‘em, you manage ‘em

I would take 2 out of 3. The D-Backs are pretty hot right now. It will definately be a good test for us. The D-Backs are the real deal

I still don’t buy their hitting. I think they’ll cool down. The pitching is for real, of course, but the hitting…. who really thinks Connor Jackson will hit 30+ homeruns?

  45. Comment posted by Lunkwill Fook on April 27, 2008 at 9:45 pm (#672155)

Just looked and he looks like he’s back on a more reasonable 20-25 homerun pace but he’s still slugging .580. While he might hit above .300 (always a good hitter in the minors), I think his slugging is coming down.

  46. Comment posted by metswin2008 on April 27, 2008 at 9:50 pm (#672156)

I hope he does Lunk. I picked him up for fantasy. Let ‘em suck against us though. I’ll be benching his @ss, lol

Not happy with it Bob…We picked up 2 undersized receivers….I would like a tall tough guy just once….someone who can go up and get the ball. But we needed so many positions filled I can’t harp on just the receivers….
