Eric Simon has far too much time on his hands. He sleeps upside-down, keeps people as pets, and can be found on the internets at Amazin' Avenue or bothered directly at eric@metsgeek.com.

Haha, I am still really worried every time Pelfrey is going to start.
I can’t help it.
Me too, Danny…especially without Schneider to guide him. It’s funny, I’ve become very dependent on Brian Schneider. I feel much more confident when he’s back there. Who knew?
True Future, but Greg Maddux could still get his 3 major pitches over the plate with any catcher. People here have practically argued that Pelfrey
can’t throw his slider for strikes because Schnieder wasn’t around.

We are going to blame every bad Pelfrey start of Schnieder not being there , huh?
I haven’t blamed anyone for anything. I just stated my feelings. And for further clarification, I felt the exact same way last night when Ollie was pitching and Schneider wasn’t there. This is isn’t a Pelfrey issue. It’s a Schneider issue.
If Elrond threw Iseldor to the lava, then who would have ruled the race of man in those days? It was a tough dilemma, no doubt. Elrond abstained from force for the betterment of human-elf relations, which did hold a greater diplomatic importance during those Golden years of yore.
OK, but if I miss will you blame that failure on Schneider not being there to guide me in doing it?

And anyone who wants to make the argument that Greg Maddux could get three pitches over the plate…if Pelfrey got Maddux’s strike zone he would be unhittable.
Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine are so over-rated. They got huge zones and umpires loved them. Now Smoltz, he’s the only one of the three that has HoF talent to me. They’ll all get in but to me its Smoltz> Maddux > Glavine.
You really think Pelfrey couldn’t be successful with Maddux’s zone? Jose Lima might be successful with that zone.
Future, you used Greg Maddux as the comparison so I went with it. And as I remember, he is still pitching with today’s very small zone in SD and is still throwing strikes. Lastly, I don’t think Mike Pelfrey could spot his slider right now with Maddux’s zone, if his last start was any indication of where that pitch is right now.
Last year Maddux threw 104 strikeouts to 25 walks. Do you still want to hide behind the idea that he needs a special catcher or a wide ass strikezone to be effective?
But Ed, its not the same zone that he got in the mid-1990s. Even if he is getting a widezone, a 4 to 1 SO to BB ratio is insane. Are we really going to argue that he would be getting a 3 to 1 SO to BB ratio if he had a “normal” zone?

Greg Maddux always relied on specific catchers, why are we going to hate on Pelfrey if even some of the best pitchers had personal catchers.
I’m re-watching LoTR.
You know Elrond you should have just thrown Iseldor into the lava of Mount Doom.

Future - but then there wouldn’t have been a need for the books or the movies and all the merchandising!
beeeep
Ok, so we are now going to blame every bad Perez and Pelfrey start on Schneider not catching them?
Ramon….stick it where the sun don’t shine!

Shea is getting fiesty.
:)
Maddux is still getting the calls his way. In other words, he is still getting a wider zone than most.
Vets typically (but not always) get calls, be they pitchers or hitters.
Doesn’t make it right, but it is what it is.

He’s still getting a pretty wide zone now.
It must be ginormous if you are arguing a 4 to 1 SO to BB ratio is the product of favorable calls.
