    1-0 ManU at halftime.

What Martinez doesn’t want in a forecast is wind. He made that point several times during Spring Training. Wind makes the baseball feel slick and undermines his touch pitches. And the forecast for the Mets’ second game, Tuesday night, is wind.

True. And especially for me since my other teams in other sports didnt do that well. Usually I can get by the winter by watching soccer and college basketball and NFL, however this year its been extremely hard with the fins only winning 1 game and UK kinda in a rebuilding mode.

Im glad baseball is back. Plus this has a chance to be a very good season for the mets :)

    Bangles

    Time, time, time
    See what’s become of me

    Time, time, time
    See what’s become of me
    While I looked around
    For my possibilities
I was so hard to please

    Look around
    Leaves are brown
    And the sky
Is a hazy shade of winter

    Hear the salvation army band
    Down by the riverside
It’s bound to be a better ride
    Than what you’ve got planned
Carry a cup in your hand

    Look around
    Leaves are brown
    And the sky
Is a hazy shade of winter

Hang on to your hopes my friend
That’s an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
    Simply pretend
That you can build them again

    Look around
    Grass is high
    Fields are ripe
It’s the springtime of my life

    Seasons change with the scenery
    Weaving time in a tapestry
Won’t you stop and remember me

    Look around
    Leaves are brown
    And the sky
It’s a hazy shade of winter

    Look around
    Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground

He will sacrifice some average to gain HR power as he gets older, but I could be wrong. Just an instinct I have. I also bet he moves down in the order a bit, becoming a fixture at the #3 spot when Chipper rides off into the distance, accounting for the increased RBIs.

Regardless, he’s a terrific young player with a very bright future.

This guy actually thinks Yunel Escobar will end up a #3 hitter….

Hoffs appeared in the first Austin Powers movie as a member of the fictitious 1960s rock group Ming Tea, fronted by the title character. In real-life, Ming Tea consisted of actor Mike Myers, Hoffs, Canadian musician/producer Christopher Ward, and singer Matthew Sweet. This group made a number of television performances (with Myers in character as Powers) and had a minor hit with the song “BBC”. Hoffs returned with the group in the second and third Austin Powers films.

hahaha Alou admits he would never have got the Bartman ball even if Bartman wasn’t there.

“You know what the funny thing is?” he added a moment later. “I wouldn’t have caught it, anyway.”

    From Adam Rubin:

Today’s lineup is virtually identical to yesterday. The only twist: With the Mets facing a righthander, Rick VandenHurk, lefty-hitting Ryan Church slides up to sixth, followed by Angel Pagan at No. 7.

I think it would have helped a lot if Alou had said that Bartman didn’t change anything.

What *really* should have happened was Alex Gonzalez should have taken the blame for his horrible error.

This from David Lennon…about the Castillo base-running.

I’ve already heard from one reader about Luis Castillo and his failure to score from first when Carlos Beltran’s double popped out of Cody Ross’ glove. Sorry, but I have to side with manager Willie Randolph on this one. The Mets were coming off a 7-2 win that featured Santana’s debut and the third question of the day was about Castillo not scoring? Castillo is on two balky knees, and if I remember correctly, third-base coach Sandy Alomar had the stop sign on. By the time shortstop Hanley Ramirez picked up the ball and dropped it again, it was too late for Castillo to make a dash for the plate.

I know some of you want to call this a breakdown in fundamentals, and call it a reflection of Randolph’s shortcomings as manager, but I’d have to disagree. Castillo plays the game as hard as anyone in the Mets’ clubhouse, and harder than most, so I think he gets a pass on this one.

  83. Comment posted by Future on April 1, 2008 at 5:22 pm (#640961)

I’m not blaming Castillo: Sandy “I’m blind as a bat” Alomar is never right. He’s either sending them to get thrown out or holding them when they could score.

That’s not to defend Willie, and Sandy was his choice…but Sandy is terrible.
