    Question to the geeks:

    Should Ed buy:
    1. Replica home jersey

    Or

    2. Batting practice jersey

I’m gonna go with #5 either way.

  12. Comment posted by Wdwrkr35 on January 28, 2008 at 4:49 pm (#597532)

Does Philly still have Burrell slotted for LF?

  13. Comment posted by Jessica on January 28, 2008 at 4:49 pm (#597533)

Ed, I’d vote for the batting practice jersey. My dad has one of those, and it’s really cool and it stands out from everyone else.

Between burrell and jenkins thier outfield D ought to be somewhat slow. Burrel is 32, doesnt he have a bum knee. And jenkins is 34

  23. Comment posted by 7 Train to Maine on January 28, 2008 at 4:54 pm (#597542)

Jenkins and Feliz are both horrible additions. But with Jenkins and Feliz power, they will be pretty good. They could combine for 60-70 homers - no joke. Feliz got 20 homers in that ballpark, I would be surprised if he broke 30. If Jenkins plays everyday, hes a lock for 35.

Burrell is 31, and I think his problem is with his foot. Jenkins will be 34 in July. But hey, it’s not like they have that much ground to cover in that bandbox.

Jenkins is a pretty good OF. But he strikes out a lot and he is another lefty to add to an already lefty-heavy lineup. I just had an idea - we should try to add a left handed starter to our rotation who can shut down Howard, Utley, etc.

Crazy thought: I have no proof for it, but I’m beginning to think that inter-league play hasn’t been all that good for baseball. I suspect it hasn’t done that much to generate new revenue. And it has unbalanced the schedule something fierce: the Mets often play way harder teams than some of the competition in the division. So, I think we should make it worse. How about ML teams playing AAA clubs in games that actually count in the standings? So that the Mets play, say, Omaha, Las Vegas, and Louisville. The Yanks playing in New Orleans… ok, I’m out of markets where I know there are AAA clubs they could play. Shows my lack of knowledge. The games should always be away games for the big boys, of course. It would be seriously unbalanced, yes, but whacky fun, if you ask me. Someone get me Selig on the phone!

  51. Comment posted by Joe A. on January 28, 2008 at 5:36 pm (#597567)

I like interleague, but I think it should go back to 1 series per year against your rival. Or maybe even just rotaing divisions each year so that you only play your rival once every 3 years. Those games are more exciting when they don’t happen so often. But they also sell out every game, so they’re not going anywhere.

  52. Comment posted by Ogre on January 28, 2008 at 5:50 pm (#597568)

Ogre preferred interleague play when it happened only once a year (unless you count the All Star Game). During the World Series…

I loathe interleague play. One it’s blatantly obvious that the Mets have been screwed schedule wise with interleague play. Two it was nice as a GIMMICK, now it’s just stupid.

Three they expanded it way too much IMO. We don’t need two series against the Yankees. We need a three game set, switching off each year who gets the two home games.

The beauty of baseball was for the longest time you and your division had a similar schedule in terms of schedule strength. Now there’s actually a few games difference in the end of the season’s standings.

I firmly believe with no interleague play the Phillies never catch us.

  55. Comment posted by Jessica on January 28, 2008 at 6:34 pm (#597570)

We’re not trading F-Mart in a big deal like that. If F-Mart reaches his potential, and I know it’s a big if, but he can be a HoFer.

We’re not giving all of these players up AND F-Mart. So give it up Twins, I’m sick of this drawn out saga. No F-Mart. If you want F-Mart we’ll just remove Guerra and Mulvey from the deal.

  61. Comment posted by Jessica on January 28, 2008 at 7:03 pm (#597574)

Interleague last year: Mets got 6 games with the Yankees (split 3-3), Tigers (lost 2 of 3), Twins (lost 2 of 3), and Oakland (won all 3 games). Phillies played Toronto (won 2 of 3), Royals (lost 2 of 3), White Sox (won all 3), Tigers (lost 2 of 3), and Indians (lost 2 of 3).

  62. Comment posted by ITAC on January 28, 2008 at 7:13 pm (#597575)

That’s going a little far, even for Wagner. I don’t mind a fiery player to keep things interesting, but Billy should really focus the negativity on his rivals, not on his own team.

  80. Comment posted by Wdwrkr35 on January 28, 2008 at 10:28 pm (#597589)

I would be willing to give up F-mart. The twins would have to accept 1 less pitcher then.

F-mart- Top projected mets position prospect
Guerra- Mets top projected pitching prospect
    Humber- projected #3 type pitcher
Anderson Hernandez- Twins need an infielder.

If they are so hot for F-mart, I want mulvey back in case Duque and pedro go down.

  81. Comment posted by Wdwrkr35 on January 28, 2008 at 10:47 pm (#597590)

I’m not really that high on Gotay either. I think he will be a good bench player. I don’t think he has the defensive skills to be a full-time 2B, and he doesn’t have enough power to be an every day 3B.

  88. Comment posted by Wdwrkr35 on January 28, 2008 at 11:30 pm (#597597)

I don’t know if it’s anything more than that.

  90. Comment posted by Ellis Dee on January 28, 2008 at 11:35 pm (#597599)

Yeah, I missed the first segment, but I saw the Wagner interview. The more I listen to him the more annoyed I get. Just put a mussle on it billy!

  91. Comment posted by ITAC on January 28, 2008 at 11:37 pm (#597600)

Gomez needs to get as much experience as possible. I have to believe a deal is imminent with him not playing. Omar has to want him to stay healthy in the next week or so.

  92. Comment posted by ITAC on January 28, 2008 at 11:42 pm (#597601)

I have always appreciated Wagner’s candidness and honesty, but his recent interview really pushes the limit and enters PLD land in terms of its belligerent negativity. To concede the division before the season is played to the point that he doesn’t even mention as a contender (we’re 3rd according to him) is a major disservice to his current team and the rest of the organization he represents. Even if one feels that way, he needs to be silent as a show of faith to an organization that has tried to produce a winner from the moment he signed on as Mets closer two years ago.

In no way shape or form did I anoint F-Mart into the HoF. I made many strong disclaimers that it was a big if that he would reach his potential. But players with his athleticism are the types of players that make the Hall of Fame. For every guy with his athleticism that makes the hall there are 25 just like him that won’t. But you just don’t trade guys with that kind of potential with 4 OTHER guys who will most likely be solid major leaguers.

My snarky retort is it’s laughable that you would interpret my comment that way. Someone’s clearly in the offseason.

And I still hate Wagner. He needs to shut his stupid mouth. Forever.
