we need scoring and the dode is owning the AHL.

Actor Heath Ledger dies at 28

    * Story Highlights
    * Police: Ledger’s housekeeper found him unresponsive in a Manhattan apartment
    * Ledger was declared dead at about 3:30 p.m.
    * The Academy Award nominated actor was the father of a young daughter
    * Police: Pills that appear to be over-the-counter sleeping medication found near bed

NEW YORK (CNN) — Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

The Academy Award nominated actor was 28.

“Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed,” police spokesman Paul Browne told CNN.

“This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet.”

The pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication, said police spokeswoman Barbara Chen.

Ledger was unresponsive when he was found by a housekeeper who had gone to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse in the Soho apartment, Browne said.

The apartment is owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, The New York Times reported.

Ledger was declared dead at about 3:30 p.m., Browne said.

In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in “Brokeback Mountain,” about two cowboys who had a secret relationship.

The role earned him the Oscar nomination.

Ledger was born in Perth, Australia. He has a young daughter with actress Michelle Williams, his co-star in “Brokeback Mountain.”

“He was just so respected in the industry,” said Kim Serafin, senior editor of In Touch Weekly. “It’s just horribly tragic. He was just a fine actor and a good person, so this is horribly sad and very unexpected.”

Don Mattingly stepped aside as the Dodgers’ hitting coach on Tuesday and was replaced by Mike Easler.
The Dodgers had to know it was coming if they had his replacement already set. Mattingly followed Joe Torre from New York to Los Angeles and was supposed to eventually replace Torre as the Dodgers’ manager. However, he said he needed to go home for family reasons. He will remain in the organization as a special advisor and coach. “I’m very grateful that the Dodgers have allowed me to take care of these family matters and I hope that everyone can respect our privacy during this time,” Mattingly said in press release. “I truly appreciate the support of all Dodger fans since joining the organization and I look forward to helping the team win in 2008 and beyond.” Jan. 22 - 4:51 pm et

RIP Heath Ledger. This is sad and very disturbing. This morning, someone showed me a pic of him looking like total crap. I mean, he looked like a zombie. Its kind of freaky that 5 hrs later after we talked about him, he was dead.

Heath Ledger recently gave an interview to WJW FOX in Cleveland where he said, “I feel good about dying because I feel alive through her.” He was talking about his young daughter Matilda.

I just saw the clip dep. He was talking about what has changed in his life since having a daughter and that clip left a lot out. He said “Having a daughter even made him feel different about his own mortality. It was like a catch 22. I feel good about dying because I feel alive through her but dying would make me miss out on wtaching her grow up.” It was just on fox and that was a rough quote

foxnews says that a lot of their new york news personal live in Heath Ledger’s neighborhood in Brooklyn when he was living with Michelle Williams. They said he was just an ordinary guy. If you didn’t know he was a big actor, you’d think he was just an average job. Always very nice and cordial

Chris, congrats on the Giants man. I know you must be going nuts. Sorry to hear about Jerryd Bayless. How long will he be out? Hes young though so he should bounce right back. Hes an awesome player. I was hoping Syracuse would draft hiom but of course that was just a pipe dream, lol

The BP chat tonight had some Mets stuff (not surprising, since Jim Baker is one of the Mets fans among their writers):

Tim Walker (Austin): Jim - How will the Mets recover from their end-of-season collapse last year? And what do you predict this year for Reyes and Wright?

Jim Baker: I honestly don’t think the collapse matters one way or the other in terms of ‘08 impact. How different a team would they be if they’d won just two more games and taken the division? Wouldn’t it be the same players? They would still have dumped Green and made some of the other same moves, like the unfortunate multi-year signing of Luis Castillo.

So, whatever they do, I don’t see it as “recovering.” As for Reyes, I’m thinking we’ll see another like season. I don’t know that he’ll arrive at that conclusion in the same fashion: hot start/fade, but his numbers will be similar. I am still convinced that Wright is the best position player the Mets have ever conjured. By the time he’s done, he will have posted the best couple of WARP3s in team history. Maybe one of those will be in ‘08.

Oh thats cool Chris. Yea the game I saw Az play was like 2 weeks ago against Ariziona St. They didnt really say what was wrong with him just that he was injured. The fwd Hill had a big game. I was impressed with the guard from state too, he had a big game.
Syracuse looks as if there gonna go with the youth movement which is good. they have mostly freshman playing which should prove good for them down the road. Cant wait til Tourney time.

  56. Comment posted by Metswin2008 on January 22, 2008 at 10:40 pm (#594375)

Im gonna probably be hitting the Big East Tourney this year. I havent gone since I was a kid in the Early 80’s, when Mullin and Ewing ruled the Roost.

Harangody’s having a pretty good second year for you guys, custer. You guys are still probably one of the top 4 teams in the Big East. Id have to say Georgetown and Pitt are probably the Fav’s so far. Should be alot more Big East match ups now so we should see some good B-Ball coming up.

  59. Comment posted by bcuster on January 23, 2008 at 12:15 am (#594379)

008, i would go with marquette as one of the faves to win the big east…

now i gotta go read the heilman article.. eli (the poster from israel), will, i am sure also be quite interested..
