Getting Upton for anything expendable would be spectacular. If Sanchez is healthy and Mota can be relied on, we absolutely have a surplus of bullpen arms.

we’re not getting Upton for anything unspectacular, why would TB do that?
and those are two MONSTROUS if’s, one of which we wont know the answer until june at the earliest.

I think Tavarez faked a foot injury so he wouldnt get the loss lol, at worst it will be a tie for him. He was limping.

I could see The orioles making that trade but not TB, after all they did get over on us 1 time already.

they were bright enough to fleece us!!! ;)
listen I’m all for dreaming about who can acquire at anytime, but nothing historically would make us think TB would just basically give him away.
Milledge and Heilman would be a decent package I would think. but no way in hell do i do that!
Comment posted by argonbunnies on February 5, 2007 at 5:05 pm (#226581)
I guess I combined:
Team officials remain committed to upgrading the bullpen but are more interested in doing so by trade
with:
the Devil Rays may look to trade BJ Upton
with the fact that everyone in baseball is suddenly going ga-ga and overvaluing relievers.
It would not surprise me at all for TB to pull a Pittsburgh and say, “We’re fed up with our talented underachiever, give us something okay that we can use right now.”
Comment posted by El Deppo loves BJs on February 5, 2007 at 5:07 pm (#226582)

Heilman, Schmoll and Feliciano for Upton!

Well, yes, they lacked the horrendous stupidity it would have taken to turn down the offer that we made them. All that means is “brighter than Jim Duquette”.
nothing historically would make us think TB would just basically give him away.
Historically, the Rays have been impossible ttro trade with, asking for way too much from everyone for everyone, with the occasional weird exception. But that regime is gone, and there’s a brand new set of folks who don’t know what they’re doing in TB! Or, well, maybe they know what they’re doing, but the jury’s out…

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they would do that. It kinda makes sense for both teams. For the Mets, it’s high-risk (Upton never makes it), high-reward (Upton becomes a star) for a team that won’t be totally screwed by the downside.
For the Rays, they get rid of a player they can’t currently use and suddenly have a bullpen that’s about twice as good as it used to be, saving the team and its fans much of the aggravation of the contant meltdowns of seasons past.

apparently.
And who the heck is Jose A Reyes?

Don’t worry Luc. Gomez is actually on the extended 40-man roster, so he would not be classified as a non-roster invitee. He will be at St. Lucie for sure.
Jose A Reyes is a catcher in the Cubs organization. Fringe major leaguer.
