There is a lot of things we could talk about. We could give Jeff Weaver credit for the great performance he had. We could talk about how Tom Glavine seemed visibly frustrated after not getting a couple of strike calls on the 4-pitch Rolen walk in the 4th inning which possibly affected his pitching. We could talk about how completely terrible Shawn Green is in the outfield defensively. We could talk about how both Shawn and Jose Valentin didn’t come through in a huge spot in the 8th inning. We could talk about how the strike zone was unbelievably inconsistent the whole game and ended up growing an unbelievable amount for the Cardinals relievers late in the game. There are plenty of others things I could mention that we could talk about, but you know what? It’s the past now.
All that is important is this: The Mets come back to Shea Stadium down 3-2, needing to win back-to-back games at Shea to get to the World Series. They are throwing John Maine in game 6, who didn’t get to 5 innings in either one of his postseason starts so far, and they are throwing, um, someone (and quite possibly everyone), in a possible Game 7. It looks like that guy is most likely to be Darren Oliver at this point, assuming he doesn’t have to be used in tomorrow’s game (and if he pitches tomorrow, unless there is some crazy extra innings game, it most likely means something has gone horribly wrong for the Mets and there won’t be a game 7).
Meanwhile, the Cards throw their ace and reigning NL Cy Young Chris Carpenter against the Mets in game 6. The only bright spot here is that Carpenter has historically pitched worse on the road than at home. In game 7, the Cards would throw Jeff Suppan, who not only shut down the Mets, but also cranked a homerun off them. So, as you can tell (and already knew) the pitching matchups don’t exactly favor the Mets.
While the Mets most definitely need solid performances from Maine and whoever pitches in game 7, the thing the Mets need most is for their bats to wake up. All year, the Mets have had a relentless offense, and aside from a few rare moments in this series, you just haven’t seen it. If the Mets want to win the next two games and go to the World Series, they will need to put runs on the board.
And I believe they can. I believe they can get the pitching performances they need. I believe this team can get the hits and runs they need. Why? Because, first and foremost, as cliche as it is, Ya Gotta Believe.
But, I, along with all of you, have watched this team all year. I’ve seen what they are capable of. And I know they are capable of getting the performances they need to win these games.
The Mets were the best team in the National League all year. And I refuse to give up on them now just because the circumstances don’t look great.
I’ll be at Shea for Game 6 tonight. And I, along with the rest of the fans in attendance, will have that place rocking.
Because deep down, we all believe.

I just kept laughing at him, and he just kept saying, wow that dude over their is getting his @ss kicked. And I just kinda stopped wrestling with him and we just watched, lol.
