SNY.tv: Milledge Promoted
by: Andrew Hintz on May 30, 2006 1:27 PM | Filed under: News

According to the Mets network’s website, SNY.tv, Lastings Milledge will be called up tonight to replace Xavier Nady — who will be placed on the 15-Day DL.

As of right now, there is no other news and no other sources confirming this.

If Milledge is called up, you’d imagine it would be for him to start. The Mets have a couple fourth outfielder types in the minors right now — Victor Diaz, Michael Tucker — that would make more sense if the Mets were interested in having somebody ride the pine while Endy Chavez got regular playing time. This move also would mean that the Mets lose an arbitration year with Milledge, so it makes even more sense that Lastings would be starting.

*Edit: WFAN is now reporting that Nady had an emergency appendectomy last night, which is why he is on the Disabled List. They are also confirming that Lastings Milledge will be called up.

    Chris,
I agree Gulbis is smoking, saw her calender somewhere. Haven’t seen Jennie Finch since the birth but she can stil be hot maybe even hotter. Have you seen Finch in person? Is she as hot in person?

I think Milledge could make a big contibution on this club if he can handle the complexity of batting 8th in the lineup as opposed to leading off.

Diaz broke spring with the big club, I think he was probably 80% in most peoples minds to be the first call up. His trade value just took a hit…..

I think his trade value was already close to nothing. His numbers in the minors do not impress.

Gulbis is hot, her face is a little scary in some of those pics.

I would’ve had sex with Jennie Finch up to the hour she had that baby. woooo hooooo

I think Diaz shot himself in the foot with this team when his D never got better.

what are we judging on again?

Even aesthetically, she’s very cold to me. Sharapova’s face is unremarkable. Nothing worse than being unremarkably pretty. SO many girls are pretty. Doesn’t make them attractive. I guess it’s something you either get or you don’t.

These are the same girls who are neurotic and drive Emad nuts with their late night tantrums about their large noses. They need constant reassurance and don’t age well. Emad loves the large nose, but NOOO he has to drop his last semester’s dime on some insecure broad all because her daddy didn’t give her enough attention.

Anyway, enough of my yakkin’. Let’s boogie!

Doesn’t Hingus have an “8 head”?

Pardon my ignorance - What’s an “8 head?”

    Danny also asks . . .

Does this mean the club is unhappy with Nady’s performance and are hoping Milledge is the solution in right field this year?

I’d have to say yes. His 9 dingers were great and he’s looked pretty fast on the bases, but his fielding is questionable, he looks overmatched on breaking pitches, and I’m not sure he understands the 4 Balls=Walk rule, though his instructors tell me he’s getting there.

I think there are two possible outcomes here.

    1) Milledge comes on like a house of fire, tears up the ML, plays stellar defense and Nady is traded for a 2B at the deadline.

    2) Milledge is solid and plays well. He stays on the roster to get time in RF and Nady might play some LF to spell Floyd, who while hitting well lately, has not been very dependable this year.

I don’t think Nady will be traded because he seems to be a viable option for us in LF next year to keep us from having to spend a ton on Carlos Lee. You have to wonder how much of his recent slump has been do to lower back pain. I have a bad back, and even if it is just nagging, it slows down everything.

I think Nady has been good enough to justify keeping around to see his progress. His OPS is a respectable .816, but it was a more respectable .872 two weeks ago before his back started bothering him. If he could deliver a .875 OPS year after year, he would be a pretty good LFer. I could live with Nady-Beltran-Milledge for a couple of years.

As for his #s with RISP, they have also been pretty bad - he hit .212 w/ RISP last year. This to me signifies a guy pressing too much in big spots. Hopefully with some more experience he can bring that average closer in line with his overall numbers.

LOL an “8 head” is someone that has a huge forehead, or sometimes referred to as a fivehead. He was a little over zealous going w/ the number 8.

The only guy I was more excited to see play was wright. Ive been a fan since 86 (I was 6).

Ah, too young for the Straw Man. You want to talk about some hype. As a die hard Met fan since ‘75 when I was five years old, it got real tough in the early 80’s especially when Neil Allen was blowing saves left and right. The Straw Man was viewed as the Prodigal Son, the Savior. I saw his breakout game in person. He had a two HR game against the Cards in June of ‘83. He homered in the first against Bob Forsch and later on off of Jim “Kitty” Kaat. Mets went on to sweep a double header from the Cards that evening with the winning pitchers Tom Seaver and Mike Torrez. The memories of youth!

I think there are two possible outcomes here.

You’re forgetting the third possibility: Milledge sucks it and is sent back down when Nady comes off the DL. But it’s okay, that’s the possibility I’d like to forget too…

It’s kind of weird, but I feel happy with our 2B situation right now — Valentine is playing absurdly well, and if he starts to scuffle, we can see AHern called back up, or Kepp if he’s hitting, or Woodward, who I think has always deserved a bit more PT. If El Duque and Soler work out, we don’t need pitching either… It seems like we’re in the enviable situation where we could have too many good parts, and no holes to fill, and I guess 2B becomes the only thing you could trade Nady for, but I’d rather keep him for next year.

FWIW, I’m glad to see Hingus getting some props here. Back when Anna Kournikova was all the rage, I always thought Martina was hotter — Anna’s got those square boxy shoulders…8-head (haha) or not, Hingus has a better body.

There are many great subplots to this season: Glavine’s turning back the clock, the resurgence of Beltran, the strong play of the bullpen, etc. However the most intriguing subplot may be the ongoing love-affair between Willie and Valentin.

I’d take 8-month pregnant Jennie Finch over her in a heartbeat.

Most hot chicks aren’t any good at sports and the ugly ones never miss practice.

Well, well, well. Nice day we got going here: Jose Valentino, he of the porn Super-stache, and a bevy of WTA & LPGA chicks in his stable.

Fire up the cheesy 70’s gee-tar and we got ourselves A Dirk Diggler Special.

Anna K: Ohhhh, Valentino. You handle that looooong bat so well.

Valentino: Stand back, baby. I’m going deep.

Martina Hingus: Ohhh, Valentino, I seem to be out of moisturizer for my eight-head. Can you help me?

Valentino: Watch out, baby. I’m about to finish off my night with a big blast.

I’m not sure, however, where Lastings Milledge comes in here. Does he sub for Valentino when he gets fatigued? He’s the Fluffer?

I was 6 in 75. Went to a lot of games in the late 70’s, early 80’s thanks to dad being able to get tickets from season box owners who couldn’t be bothered. That is how I became a Met fan, despite my mother’s side of the family being Yankee fans.
I remember Straw, and Doc and the others. I was so happy when they traded for Keith and Gary. I was praying during Mookie’s at-bat.

I posted last night that I think we should trade Valenin now while people think he’s turned it around. Get us a cross-eyed, one-armed single-A prospect, but trade him now while his value is up. He wasn’t ever any good, and he won’t be this good for long. Sell high on this stock.

They expect him to arrive at 5:45 it was a problem from Pawtucket. You don’t send the corporate jet for the kid, you get him there the same way as all other call-ups, no need to give him a big head on a club full of proven stars.

Actually, it’s “Zachry”, 2 syllables not 3. Didn’t stop Kiner from mispronouncing it every time (and that was before his stroke).

No Met’s debut was more hyped than Straw’s. He started off something like 0-15, but no one cared because you could tell from that swing he was going to be special.

BTW, Clemens just signed with the Astros for $10m for the rest of the season. Wish I could negotiate a deal like that at my job.

Have you seen Finch in person? Is she as hot in person?

I had her in a class @ U of Arizona my first go around (I took a hiatas of 3 yrs b4 going back), she is hotter in person. Heck of alot better looking than Amanda Beard is (another espn winner of hottest woman’s athlete). I had a class w/ Amanda @ U of A too. Amanda’s good looking but not in the class of either Natalie or Jennie from the U of A. I don’t know how many people here are familar with Lovieanne Jung. She was someone else I had class with who was hotter in person than in pictures. SHe is a teammate of Finch on the USA softball team and has been dating Jon Garland for awhile. I’m making a good recruiting post for men to come to U of Arizona. I will dare to say that Arizona is also the best place for woman athletes to go on to become stars from. We got the girls I listed above, Anika sorenson and Lorena Ochoa from the PGA tour. We also have a factory of NBA Talent coming out of Mckale center ever year too.

Anyway, back to baseball. Lastings is batting 8th. I’m sure he will be able to handle himself there, but he aint gonna get much to see there. Valentine is a seasoned vet who has been swinging a fairly hot bat lately. With his experience, he should be hitting 8th so that Lastings can get a better pitch selection.
