Minor League Recap
  • Minor League Recap:
    • Toledo has taken game one against the Tides 6-5 behind AAAA player extraordinaire Marcus Thames and his homerun and three RBIs. Angel Pagan had a big game one for the Tides and went 3 for 4 with a run scored, a double, an RBI, and a walk. Anderson Hernandez went 1 for 3, Eric Valent went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a walk, Chris Basak went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a walk, and Joe Hieptas went 1 for 4 with a run scored, a double, and two RBIs. Eric Junge started the game and went 6.1 innings giving up nine hits, four earned runs, one walk, one homer, and struck out seven. Royce Ring threw two shut out innings in relief allowing one hit and striking out two.
    • Delmarva beat up on Hagerstown 13-3. Jose Coronado went 2 for 3, Jesus Flores went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a walk, and Russ Triplett went 1 for 3 with a run scored, a triple, and an RBI. Jose Sanchez started the game and went two innings giving up six hits, five runs, two earned runs, and two walks and took the loss. Matt Durkin came in to pitch the next two innings and the good news he only walked one. The bad news is that he gave up five runs, four earned runs, and four hits and the Suns gave up six unearned runs in total.
    • New Jersey beat Brooklyn 4-2. Matthew Anderson went 2 for 4 with a double, Daniel Cummins went 2 for 4, and Caleb Stewart went 0 for 2 with a run scored, an RBI, and two walks. Robert Parnell started the game and got the no decision while pitching yet another good game. He went five innings giving up one hit, no earned runs, two walks, and struck out three. Kevin Tomasiewicz took the loss and gave up three earned runs, four hits, one walk, and one homer in one inning pitched.
    • Team USA keeps on rolling and beat Puerto Rico 12-6. Lastings Milledge went 2 for 6 with two runs scored, two strikeouts, and his second double on the season. USA improved to 4-0.

But John, you don’t want the “kids” to develop a winning attitude!?!?

No..im tired of this organization babying the younger players. After watching the “baby braves” beat us….if they can bring up these kids why the hell cant we?

Plus even through matsui is starting to hit, he still stinks. Cairo is even worse. Everyone is saying hernandez isnt the answer, that he’s not going to be a good major league player and they may be right but considering our options right now, would it hurt to bring him up and at least try to see how he does? Who knows…maybe he comes up and has a hot streak like jacobs did and we start winning some games.

This team is in a horrible slump offensively and its time they start shaking things up a bit. I have no idea whatsoever why this kid isnt up yet. As an organization, your supposed to field the best team you can. The braves do it. They saw kolb was struggling as closer so they went a different route. Why dont the mets do it? Why does Ishii last as long as he did? I mean i can go on and on…..its not that the talent isnt here to win, its just its not being used in certain cases. To bat david wright 7th most of season………i mean for a team that struggles so much with runners in scoring position it would make sense to me that you would want your best hitter (david wright) batting in those situations the most outta any other player on the team. But thats not the case….not when hes batting 7th (or 5th as he is now).

      I just dont understand

The Mets are run like FEMA, John. Bumbling incompetence on parade. The only question left is, “when do the winter meeting start?”

That do have a problem not trusting kids, but right now Kaz Matsui is playing well. I’d rather see Hernandez work and prove himself for one more year before he gets trust with the job because Kaz could be good. If he has a nice September, I’m ok with giving him another shot.

They need to do the same thing they did with their scouting department……get rid of everyone. They need ppl with half a brain to run this team.

I hate the Braves annoucers more than any in the world. Period.

They are pretty uninformed also. They blamed the Mets poor double play numbers on Matsui. Not knowing that he was hurt and that Cairo is the one who sucks (in a relative way).

Willie: Give Matsui one more year. I’d hate to see him finally catch on somewhere else (unless he goes back to japan and the Mets free up the money). Ask him to play winter ball. Or buy him a batting machine that throws him inside-low curveballs. I would like to see him bat righty once in a while even if it isn’t in the book. His lefty swing is weak on inside pitches.

Finally: this may sound crazy, but why not put Beltran at leadoff. His OB% is decent and maybe Reyes gets better pitches. They won;t throw him those curveballs he chases with Betran on first as a threat to SB. Reyes is less likely to hit into double plays.

Why not put Beltran at leadoff?

Because this would require Willie to make a decision based on performance, rather than labels. Busttran (well, *I* think it’s funny) is “The #3 Hitter”, regardless of how he hits. Looper is “The Closer”, regardless of how he pitches. And so on.

I’m still amazed we got Piazza out of the clean-up slot…
