This should of been a Brian Stokes farewell thread cause he was a good pitcher in some eyes.

aaron heilman was a far superior pitcher & got nothing but a kick in the pants from mets' fans on his way out the door:mad:

Both pitchers were rather identical their last seasons with the Mets. Stokes had a bit more luck on his side with a sub 4 ERA, compared to the plus 5 one Aaron had but their Whips were both plus 1.50 and really weren't dependable for the Mets in their final seasons. Heilman has tremendously more skill than Stokes and Heilman's worst season is comparable to what I'd expect for Stokes unless he develops a better second offering outside of his FB

just because I think this is a dumb trade with no upside and I believe stokes has more value than GMj doesn't mean I think he's the cats meow. The dude sucks but so does GMj so why do it? I rather have an excess of pitchers at ST than warm bodies who can't play replacement level. Bottom line: stokes has more value than GMj. The mets lost this trade. Not a big deal but irritating taken in the context of this off season

The truth of the matter is that the deal has basically nothing to do with Brian Stokes....and everything to do with Omar Minaya. Hairston had better numbers and would have required only a 1 year commitment. He required no trade. Also much more versatile. Could play infield and outfield. But I guess Hairston wasn't old enough, used up enough or fading fast enough for Omar's taste. The one thing you can say about Omar...he is totally predictable. And that's not a good thing.

i never disliked stokes. he just couldn't shine heilman's shoes..

but be that as it may gmjr is just a warm body. a complete waste. at least stokes had a somewhat live arm.. :(

It sure does. So we probably gave too much thought to this trade but so what? There's precious little to talk about concerning the mets.

I really never liked Leno. I liked him even less when I found he and his agent conspired to have Carson sent into retirement before Carson was ready.
