Some thought so far:

St. Johns wins the Great Alaskan Shootout :)
Duke looks good
Michagan St does not.
UNC was overrated
Uconn was underrated.
UK is gonna win the SEC yet again :)

DL
11-28-2010, 06:50 PM
st john's has heart, but not the talent (yet)

surprised they came back to win two of those games against not so great teams

past teams didn't pull those games out though. lav ftw?

John
11-28-2010, 07:55 PM
What helped big time was the amount of turnovers stjohns got last two games against drake and arizona st.

Drake turned it over on 30.5% of their possessions.
Arizona state 29.3%

Conversely stjohns just hasn't turned it over at all. 9th in NCAA in least turnover %

Its so huge because they still don't shoot the ball very well so they need the extra shots.

I doubt they can turn teams over like that against BE teams but I think they'll be improved this season.

On another note, what the hell is wrong with UNC?

DL
11-28-2010, 08:05 PM
yeah, i didn't really watch yesterday's game, but the game report seems to say they sped the game up and asu likes to play slow

unc seems to have the same issue as last year, their talent isn't as good as everyone thought it is. and they just don't have a good pg, as long as drew keeps getting most of the minutes there

John
11-28-2010, 08:14 PM
I managed to stay up for it sort of ......I was dosing in and out but they looked good lol.

Yeah UNC just isn't looking good at all right now.........strugged again today vs college of charleston

John
02-07-2011, 07:58 AM
A couple of stumbles on the road but they've played well all season long

Wins vs
Wisconsin
Pittsburgh
Uconn
Cincy
Marquette
Georgetown

Its hard to not be impressed.
Only 4 losses.........not gonna kill them for losing away to Cuse and a neutral game vs UK. It does make our win look good.

John
02-07-2011, 09:48 AM
I moved a couple teams up by large amounts as I felt they been underrated.

Florida...........Florida is now on top of the SEC East at 6-2. Bad losses have kept me from moving them up (Jacksonville, UCF) but it's hard to ignore a team thats 7-1 against the Saragin Top 50. They are showing why they were picked to win the SEC.

Georgetown............I moved them down for awhile because they started big east play 1-4...........they have now won 6 straight and have played one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA.

Wisconsin........No real bad losses. This team is amazing efficient on offense. They never turn the ball over (1st in the NCAA and might break records)...........they shoot over 80% from the foul line which during the NCAA and close games, can only help. This is a team I would not want to see. They gonna beat OSU next Saturday as well :)

BYU and SD State...........they got moved up a bit. I think I was a bit too harsh on these teams. SD State has 1 loss and BYU 2 losses. After checking their SOS, its very much compared to other teams around them. I'm not completely sold on either but I see no reason to rank them lower when their SOS was pretty good.

North Carolina....won 10 of 11. Only 5 losses...........11th in SOS.

GOING DOWN.

1. UK............I moved them down from 6th to 19th because of the two losses. I still think they are better then 19th but it's hard to justified that after two losses in the week when other teams have played fairly well. Big week vs UT and at Vandy so a chance to move back up (or further down)

2. Washington.........Two more losses last week and have dropped 3 in a row now. Lost a key player and I think its effecting them. Another team I think is better. Both UK and Washington are similar in that the losses have been very close. It'll be interesting to see how each perform come tourny time.

3. Texas AM..........another that s dropped two last week. SOS not as great either.

DL

florida should be higher, purdue lower

there really doesn't seem to be much in purdue's profile, outside of a good record and good pomeroy numbers

DL
02-07-2011, 05:14 PM
i would also put georgetown higher

i think they're every bit as worthy of a 2 seed, if not more so, as uconn and nova

John
02-07-2011, 05:48 PM
I think what's happened is just like any poll................I think when I first started I had Georgetown and Florida so low, its hard for them to move completely up.

UF jumped from 23 to 18
GT jumped from 18 to 11

I think things will sort themselves out in the future. Things like whether or not Uconn, Nova or GT is the best and whether UF continues to play well.

That team is still 24-1

Losing AT Wisconsin (a place no one wins) >>>>> Losing at home to Texas IMO. Now I think you could strongly consider Pitt

You can make a case for Pitt. Kansas or OSU IMO

how the hell do you fill out a bracket now?

you know what i really hate about the expanded tournament?

how the hell do you fill out a bracket now?

Either one of two things will have to happen

1) Wait until Wednesday after the play in games to fill out the bracket.

OR

2) You'll actually have to pick the winner of the play in games. You'll just have to figure out who's getting those last two 12 seeds. The 16's didn't really matter cause no one is picking them to beat a 1 anyways lol

John
02-14-2011, 09:12 PM
and of course, i have enough trouble thinking of enough teams for a 65 team tournament

There isn't.

I used to think just take the best 68 teams no automatic bids.........that would make for a better tourny but honestly I have trouble picking 37 or so at large teams that deserve a bid much less 68 lol.

Besides 7 of the last 10 years a 1 seed has won anyways so it really doesnt matter lol. They could just do a 16 team tourny and be just fine lol

St Johns looking really good these days. They look like an NCAA team. And they're loads of fun to watch, with their aggressive style on both offense and defense.

Amazing what a difference a top coach can make. No way they'd be anywhere near this good under the old regime.

Its amazing. I mean they returned nearly the same exact team as last year. I liked Norm and all but the difference is night and day now.

You could tell these seniors really want to make the tourny one time before they leave.

Johns Top 25 (2/21/11)

1 Ohio St.
2 Pittsburgh
3 Kansas
4 Duke
5 BYU
6 Texas
7 San Deigo St.
8 Purdue
9 Georgetown
10 Wisconsin
11 Notre Dame
12 Connecticut
13 Syracuse
14 Kentucky
15 Villanova
16 Arizona
17 North Carolina
18 Florida
19 Louisville
20 Vanderbilt
21 St. Johns
22 West Virginia
23 Missouri
24 Texas AM
25 Xavier

I'm beginning to realize that if I just take the Top 25 last week and adjust based on wins and losses like I'm sure most polls do, it gives way too much weight to last weeks games so I've completely revamped it and based it on the entire season.

DL
02-21-2011, 06:07 PM

the irish drop out of the top ten? BOOOO!. but that was a bad loss in morgantown :(

John
02-21-2011, 07:25 PM
It was a combo of that and the fact that I probably been hating on BYU and SD state.

There SOS is comparable to the bigger conferences so I can't hate.

Also Purdue knocked off both Wisconsin and Ohio St so that helped them lol

DL
02-21-2011, 08:00 PM
i'd still put nd and gtown in that 5-8 territory over byu and sdsu

John
02-21-2011, 08:12 PM
I think I would do that as well.

Part of the reason I have this is cause I'm gonna eventually do my own bracket and see how I do with guessing the field compared to others. So I'm conflicting in whether I'm making a bracket of the best teams or I'm making a bracket from what I think the NCAA is gonna do. Washington IMO would be rated higher if it was up to me lol, maybe BYU and SD lower.
So while ND and GT might be better, pretty much any bracket you look at this point has BYU and SD State (at least one of them) as a 2 seed. Actually if you ask most people that look at this stuff, they are closer to a 1 seed then 3/4 seeds.

I gotta say when u get down to the bottom, its unbelievable how close everyone is.......thats why u see Alabama and/or Michagan St. in the discussion.

John
02-21-2011, 08:14 PM
Oh and it's amazing ppl still look at RPI but they do.

In fact, when the NCAA does the selection the cheat sheets they use have RPI, RPI in wins and RPI in losses. So while people don't directly say well such and such team RPI is high, indirectly thats a huge thing they look at.

Polls like Pomeroy and Sargarin is listing in "other materials" but there's no evidence people even look at it.

John
02-21-2011, 08:18 PM
Thing about those teams
BYU is 5-0 against the Sargarin Top 25 and 6-1 over the Top 50.

Duke OTOH is 1-0 against Top 25 (UNC at home) and 6-2 over the Top 50.

nice pix, john. you did better than any of the "experts" out there. nice job

i was shocked, upset & disgusted by notre dame's gag job in the BET. somehow the irish landed on their feet & were given a 2 seed in the dance

.. can't complain, i guess...

VCU looks awfully good.

It's hard to imagine this team came into this tourny and was killed for their lack of D. Smart has them playing D now lol.

And if VCU continues to shoot the 3 like they have been you may as well give them the national title.

I think they beat Butler.

Uconn/UK will be extremely close. And Kemba has made huge shots all season long so it scares me lol. No prediction. Just hope UK can keep moving on lol.
