Smoking is a weird thing. Some people are far more sensitive to the damage than others. My father-in-law is 89. He smoked for over 50 years. Stopped cold turkey with no problems when he finally stopped, in his 70s. No health issues. Some people are just wired that way.

I expect Mets will have to step up even though they have him under wraps until the end of 2011 (I think). I mean, low ERA, nearly 9 wins - could easily have been at least 4 more with a better hitting team, and such a different look from the rest of your pitching staff. Don't want to oversell him, or pay too much, or buy a contract for the next 25 years, but hes had a break out season.

he's certainly a tradeable commodity, i'm sure some teams would be interested

he's under control one more year and will be pretty cheap in 2011 so that's looking like a huge value year for a team to have him, then FA.
