Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is hearing the D-Backs and free-agent 1B Adam LaRoche have agreed to a one-year contract.

Last week, Buster Olney of ESPN.com said LaRoche had been entertaining signing with either the Orioles or Giants, who offered him a two-year, $17 million deal, but that deal might now be ‘off the table.’.

The reason why Laroche took this deal is really an ultimate gamble. He believes he can take less this yr to set himself up to be paid in 2011 what he believes he is worth. I'm not saying he is smart
