With our luck, it'll be like this year with Stephen Matz -- next February or March, so he'll miss the whole year 2011.

Did we not like the Harvey pick?
I liked it, if only because it’s not a signability pick. Maybe Jeffy still loves us.
And if we don’t sign him, we get the #8 pick on a much stronger draft class next year.
I'm fine with it, not a tremendous pick, but seems about right considering the awfulness of this draft class

i wanted the samoan!
I didn't really think there were any YAY!!!! picks available at #7. I'm ok with meh instead of D'oh!
As someone pointed out last night, Harvey was rated higher than Porcello in the 2007 draft class. He sounds a lot like Big Pelf actually. I'll take that.
The 2 guys AA was screaming for were Chris Sale and Grandal. I'd have liked Grandal....

It appears they took the best available player.
Another starter is not a bad thing.
Now, so long as they don't let Warthen within 100 miles of him, I'll be happy.
Maybe Boras gives us a discount after the anal raping over Ollie?
look at how many picks were made that weren't even close to projections. that should tell you about the strength of this draft
i'm most worried about how many pitches the kid has thrown, not that he "needs work"
i'm watching stras instead of pelf tonight
btw my draft comment can go both ways
very little elite talent, but there is depth. of course that means the two sawx comp picks will end up being the best hahahaha

Everyone in Philslandia thinks their answer to their run woes and lack of spark is Rollins. Do they need to be reminded that 2007 Rollins is gone and neva' eva' comin' back?

Yeah well 2006 Reyes aint coming back either. I have faith that he can be a very, very good player again (as long as he remains healthy). But a return to '06 form? I think that ship has sailed.
While the LeBron comment -- "I can't tell him to go to New York," Oakley said. "New York treated me bad ... " -- may stir headlines, Charles Oakley let loose with a few more jabs at the Knicks. Oakley lives in the Cleveland area and is friends with James. If James does ask, Oakley would point him toward the Heat. Oakley also took a shot at former teammate Patrick Ewing, who he claims never was blamed for the Knicks' failure to win a championship. "When we lose, they only point at us, never point at Patrick," Oakley said. "Patrick was our leader as far as press and people who are watching TV, but the Knicks were made of a lot of tough guys and a lot of heart.

Nope, they had two of the premier PP QBs in the league and they sent one off for an end of his career Ulf Samuelsson. Trading Mattias Norstrom was terrble as well. I was less concerned about Kovalev because I never thought he would put it together consistently enough. He had the goods to be a 40-50 goal guy every year but only played well once every 3-4 years. And although hr succeeded on the Pens the Rangers didn't have that style of team.
buccos stockpiling young arms
According to The Day, Harvey’s high school coach, John Schiffner, who also coached Harvey in the Cape Cod League the past two summers, said yesterday:
“His work ethic is amazing. He’s an extremely hard worker. He wants to be a big league pitcher and he knows what he has to do to do that. There’s no question he was our team leader last summer and for North Carolina this spring. Last year he knew he was struggling and he made no excuses. I’ve seen guys like him in the same situation pack it up and go home. He refused to do that. He wanted to get better. He knew he had to find it and he eventually did.”

Forsythe
is a talented receiver, plus arm, has a long swing, strikes out a lot but is very patient. Doesn’t have much power, so he’s a good-throwing catcher who might not make enough contact.

hahahahahah
I will say this, I've been seeing Alex make comments like that often, about a lot of picks.
Mayo's immediate reaction was "He can't hit."lol
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=7604025
SCOUTING PROFILE (3/1): Forsythe appeared to cement his status as an early-round pick in the 2010 draft with a big sophomore year at Tennessee and by being selected as one of two catchers on USA Baseball’s college national team last summer. After hitting .347-15-46 in the spring for the Volunteers and earning all-Southeastern Conference honors, he badly outhit Miami’s Yasmani Grandal (.293-2-9 to Grandal’s .182-3-7) during the summer, but he has inextricably struggled at the plate this season for Tennessee. Through his first 32 games, he was hitting just .241-4-27 and striking out at a high rate. His timing couldn’t have been worse as Forsythe gave all indications of being one of the first three college catchers drafted this year, along with Grandal and Louisiana State’s Blake Gibbs, both potential first-rounders. His chances of surpassing his brother Logan, who was the 46th overall pick in the 2008 draft as a third baseman out of Arkansas, appeared strong entering 2010 but have largely slipped away, too, with his disappointing junior season. Forsythe has gotten used to his share of ups and downs in his career. After hitting .433-13-53 as a senior at Memphis’ Christian Brothers High in 2007 and setting a school-record for homers, he failed to go deep even once as a Tennessee freshman, and hit just .173-0-4 in 22 games. But he had a breakout season that summer in the Coastal Plain League, finishing second in the league with 10 homers, and he used that performance as a springboard to his big sophomore season. When Forsythe is going good, the ball explodes off his bat with the type of backspin that only advanced hitters can generate with wood bats. Forsythe has also made significant adjustments in his time at Tennessee in hitting breaking balls, which hampered him in his freshman season with the Vols, but can still be prone to struggling against high-velocity arms. He also has an unusually good eye at the plate and will draw more than his share of walks. Forsythe’s defensive tools are solid. He has quick feet for his size and is very mobile behind the plate, and has a strong throwing arm.—ALLAN SIMPSON
UPDATE (5/15): If scouts weren’t turned off by his slow start and kept coming to see him, then Forsythe has a good chance to restore some of his lost luster in the draft. He swung the bat much better over the second half of Tennessee’s 2010 season, finishing at .286-15-57. His average was clearly down from his sophomore season as he struggled to bat even .250 in the first half, but his power numbers were consistent. Forsythe’s superior athletic ability (for a catcher), makeup and track record also will make scouts think twice before penalizing him for his slow start at the plate.—AS .

There are alot of spoiled, digruntled ex Knicks like Oakley and Ewing who loved to complain about how the franchise mistreated them when it wasn't true at all. They were treated like kings, overpaid, and kept on the team for years well after thier primes in 94 just so that the team could go to the playoffs without a chance of defeating the Jordan led Bulls or Shaquille led Magic.

This is a depressing day 2 of the draft.
SCOUTING PROFILE (3/1): Den Dekker had realistic expectations of being an early-round pick in the 2009 draft after a solid sophomore season at Florida. But he didn’t progress at the plate as a junior as hoped, hitting .296-5-37 with 49 strikeouts. That was in contrast to a 2008 season, when he hit .333-8-48 and whiffed just 24 times. Scouts believe he pressed too hard with the draft on the horizon, but they still saw him for what he’s capable of becoming—a solid all-around, athletic player with a passion for the game and an exciting upside. But that assessment wasn’t reflected in the 2009 draft as Den Dekker wasn’t selected until the 16th round, which prompted him to return to Florida for his senior year. With a solid .336-6-23 season and club-high 10 stolen bases through 33 games this season, he should be one of the first college seniors drafted in June. Den Dekker went undrafted out of a Florida high school in 2006, but has started in center field for the Gators from day one. Even when he hit just .234-7-25 as a freshman, he was an asset defensively and on the bases, and it was apparent from the start that his offensive ability just needed repetitions to blossom. Sure enough, he showed vast improvement at the plate as a sophomore. He featured one of the best approaches and best pure, compact swings in the Southeastern Conference, and the ball jumped off his bat. He also became an effective leadoff hitter for the Gators by stealing 20 bases in 20 attempts. Den Dekker was rewarded for his breakthrough season by being selected to Team USA’s college national team during the summer, and was one of two players to play in all 24 games as the team went undefeated. Though he hit just .229-1-9 in 70 at-bats with wood, mostly as a leadoff hitter, den Dekker was Team USA’s best defensive outfielder, takinggood routes to balls and using his superior speed to track balls efficiently in all directions from center field. Hehas enough speed and agility to play an average big-league center field and be a very good base runner at that level. Though he has pitched on occasion for the Gators, his arm is considered just solid-average by center-field standards. The key for him developing into a potential early-round pick in the 2010 draft will be his continued improvement at the plate. He’s a natural No. 1 or No. 2 hitter and uses the whole field to both spray and drive balls, but struggles to make consistent contact, particularly with off-speed pitches. With 30 in 33 games, he was leading the Gators in strikeouts again this spring. Den Dekker is regarded as more of a third-to-fourth round talent, but could go earlier because of his senior status and general lack of college position players in this year’s draft.—ALLAN SIMPSON
UPDATE (5/15): Though the strikeouts have continued to occur at an unacceptable pace, with 45 in 55 games, den Dekker has shown improvement offensively this spring. He led the Gators in batting, with a .355-12-34 line, and stole 21 bases in 26 attempts using his natural speed. Scouts continue to wonder about his approach at the plate, as it varies between swinging for the fences and chopping at the ball. Twelve of his 21 extra-base hits have been home runs, but 57 of his 77 total hits have been singles. Though he has lacked consistency in his approach, scouts can’t argue with his value as a solid senior athlete with defensive tools and speed, and he still looks like the top senior position player in the entire draft class.—ANDY SEILER .

Matt's stock fell drastically as a junior, when he hit .296/.409/.412 with 17 steals in 18 tries. I kinda like this one. Greg Peavey is a good pitcher, throws in the high 80s, flashes a good slider but it’s inconsistent. He has good command and a very compact delivery.

Just your type! I didn't think of that! He's too boyish for my taste. But he's in your wheelhouse.
He is yummy. How are you doing? Getting ready for summer?
orrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Scouting Report: Peavey has effort in his delivery but usually has a fastball around 92 mph, touching 94, to go with a good, hard slider. Peavey has been on radar screens for several years and while scouts like his arm and pitchability, he hasn't developed much since his freshman year. The violence in his delivery has some concerned and the lack of a changeup has some thinking he's bound for a bullpen role in the future

A lot more position players than is usual for the Mets, I think.

Yeah, he's adorable. Except for the necklace, which I think is a little silly.
I'm doing well, thanks! Not getting ready for the summer one way or the other, but I'm sooo glad to have warm weather. I am an uber-baby about cold (even chilly weather.) I love the summer!
And you? Do you have any big plans? How are the kids?
ok Jeffery Walters
OK, this is the fifth time he’s been drafted. Former JuCo guy, now pitching at Georgia.

Hehe! I guess he's extra talented!
Another one!
Extremely talented, Matt den Dekker, a senior sign. Just hasn’t produced at Florida.
-Alex
Alex likes Dekker better than vaughn cuz he thinks Dekker can stick at CF, and Vaughn cant
den Dekker is strong and fast. But he was very disappointing in college, and I’ve never liked his swing.
-Alex
every guy we've taken is from a reasonably good bigtime college program
Walters
He’s a big guy with a big fastball, not a whole lot else. Slider shows promise, but it’s inconsistent. Arm action is pretty good though a little whippy, but he drags his glove side down and it’s clearly affecting his command.

Really interesting entry on the ESPN Mets blog page about Tim "Tim Terrific" Leary and his travails as a very-much-hyped Mets prospect. Cautionary tale on the ephemeral nature of greatness. Also nice to know the Mets medical staff sucked as badly in the early 80s as it does now. Maybe more.

We drafted Lenny Dinardo out of Stetson years ago
akeel morris, some hs pitcher from the virgin islands
tim duncan of baseball!
I want them to draft signability picks in the teen rounds so we can whine when the Mets lowball them.
The Mets draft strategy is predictable: they are willing to go overslot in the first round, but they are not going to pay in the later rounds.
Boston, OTOH, has been gaming the system for years and Selig has not spanked them for it.

I don't understand why they don't, besides the fact that they really don't want to spend money. I think being Selig's lackey isn't it, I think they're just cheapskates. And we don't even seem to move that money to the IFAs these days. Sigh.

Per ESPN:
Major League Baseball is satisfied with left-hander Oliver Perez's placement on the disabled list with right knee tendinitis and will not pursue nullifying the maneuver, an official with knowledge of the review told ESPNNewYork.com.
Perez had abruptly landed on the DL on Saturday to clear roster room for left-hander Jon Niese after declining to go to the minor leagues.
The Mets had Perez take an MRI on Friday at the Hospital for Special Surgery. After reviewing the medical material, MLB has declined to pursue the matter further.

Wonder if McLite is ever going to update his roster on the front page, which shows GMJr still a Met.
Pacific JR 2B JB Brown – Above-average hitter in the mold of Josh Vitters, Howie Kendrick, and Placido Polanco. Of course, those three names were superior prospects at various points in their respective development; I’m talking about the type of hitter, not necessarily the quality of hitter. Brown is a notorious hacker, but has shown an uncanny ability to swing at pitches he can handle. Hitters like this are typically far too batting average dependent to emerge as successful professionals, but they make for interesting case studies as they progress through the minors.

Especially since he had surgery on it not too long ago! Plus the idea of MLB calling a doctor a liar probably didn't sit too well with the higher ups. I mean have they ever overturned a DL roster move? Ollie had to know they were gonna get him out of there one way or another with his continued obstinate stance
Maine's in NY? I was hoping he'd be banished to wherever they've sent Green.
