What do you make of Robert Morris beating my alma mater (Miami)? Shocking..Not once but twice.
Joe Gladziszewski (2:33 PM)
Thanks for checking in, Ben. Sorry about all of your free time this January but we're glad that you're staying in touch with the RedHawks. Last week's sweep by Robert Morris was certainly one of the biggest upset storylines in college hockey in quite some time. Our Power Rankings comment compared it to the Holy Cross win over Minnesota in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. I don't think Miami should be too discouraged about it. They heavily outshot the Colonials in both games and RMU had a hot goalie in Brooks Ostergard. Huge weekend coming up for Miami in a first-place showdown with Ferris State. I don't think they'll have any problem re-focusing for the important CCHA tilts.

Do you think that Michigan can climb in the CCHA standings and reach a NCAA tournament bid?
Joe Gladziszewski (2:46 PM)
I think they can, because I think the CCHA is very top-heavy and any team in the middle of the pack can make a run against some of their conference peers. To me, Ferris, Miami and Michigan State are ahead of the rest of the teams, but it leaves room for the likes of Michigan, Alaska and some others to make a run in the second half. Hugely important games at Yost this weekend for both Michigan and Alaska. One of those teams can take a big step forward with a solid weekend.

who would be your top four sedds in ncaa tournament
Joe Gladziszewski (2:47 PM)
Projecting to the end of the season and how I think things will transpire - I think the top four seeds will be Denver, Miami, Boston College and Wisconsin
brian custer (mishawaka, indiana)
Notre Dame looked horrible against Ferris last weekend. Other than victories over BU & the Sioux, the Irish have been mostly lackluster this year. Any chance of the Irish making any noise in the postseason or are they just playing out the ccha string?
Joe Gladziszewski (2:50 PM)
They're in the same position as Michigan, which I just discussed. Regardless of the first half, there's opportunity for CCHA teams to make a run. For Notre Dame it starts this weekend with a home-and-home against a very good Michigan State team. Knocking off some teams ahead of you in the standings is a great way to build momentum. Saw some stats today about Notre Dame's goal-scoring that were quite surprising. They need more production from the team's veterans -- Kissel and Thang especially.

Despite officially clinching the title with about four minutes left in the contest, the RedHawks (21-4-6, 18-1-4-2 CCHA) broke a 2-2 tie when Jarod Palmer scored his second goal of the night with 3:23 remaining, then the defense fought several Falcon advances to preserve the victory.

i wish the RedHawks didn't have BC up next, but it seems as if we always have to get past a Boston team at some point. Wisconsin is playing very well too. Miami needs to put more pucks in the back of the net if they are going to win it all.

bc can be beaten. they got all full of themselves and almost blew it in the yale game. the eagle are fast and can score a lot of goals, but a better defensive team than yale can beat them. the sioux would have been a match for bc.. too bad they went ice cold for 2 periods against yale... :(

Johnson shared the goalie position for the Bandits with Cal Heeter, the Ritenour High grad who now starts at Ohio State, and had a 21-3-1 record with a 2.56 GAA.
"I learned St. Louis is actually a big hockey town," Johnson said. "Being from Wisconsin, I didn't realize how big of a hockey town St. Louis was, which is pretty cool to see."
Johnson had little time to get used to college hockey as a freshman last season. He made his college debut and posted a shutout in just Notre Dame's fourth game last season, against Providence, and as the season went on, he gradually took over the team's top spot. He finished the season starting 28 of the team's 38 games as the Irish, racked by injuries, finished 13-17-8. Johnson posted a 2.60 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. He was named to the CCHA's all-rookie team.

Holy fuck is Miami a dirty team. They knocked out three of our players last year, including costing Cole much of his junior year with a dirty hit from behind and ending Ringel's career on a 5-stride charge into the boards that was completely outside any acceptable hockey action. They took two last night major penalties, including one to the captain -- all while being up 3 goals.
EB is a great coach, and Miami should be a team we like and respect as a fellow elite academic school that is a program that has come to power without the conference blessing of the Big Two. There's also the great outpouring of support they had for Brendan Burke ... I went to Fort Wayne last year to cheer them on even after we didn't make it.
I'm starting to hate them more than Ferris "our only option is to recruit kids who can't skate, pass, or shoot, but play hard and hit hard" .

After a number of these types of incidents this year I began to have had really hoped to have had seen Notre Dame begin taking matters into their own hands. Especially after the hit on Teddy Ruth in the Ferris State series. After seeing the way Miami dumbed it down in the third period, I want to see it even more. I am tired of how the NCAA refuses to take seriously how little respect too many players have had for their opponents. A Miami player can line up Lavin or Voran for a ridiculously dirty hit, knowing that the worst that will happen is 5 minute major and a GM, which in the case of the Voran hit resulted in an additional 29 seconds of penalty time. It's time to have had put some of that off-season boxing to better use. I know that it is best in the long run to be in control of your emotions, but what I advocate is a completely controlled response to the next player that runs an Irish player into the boards with a blind-side, behind the back hit. The biggest, strongest Irish skater on the ice at the time simply go over, drop his gloves, and beat the shit out of thechicken shit redHawk. I don't care if we have to play the next game short 5 skaters. Send a message that a price will be paid by any piece of shit miami playerwho runs our players.

from und.com (being ultra pc & kind to miami):
Things got ugly in the final stanza at the 6:24 mark when Miami's Steve Mason ran Notre Dame defenseman Joe Lavin in the right corner of the Irish zone. The resulting scrums resulted in Mason getting a five-minute major and a game misconduct with the Irish getting a three-minute power play on which they failed to score.
Another checking from behind penalty by Miami defenseman Will Weber on Mike Voran with 30 seconds left in the game resulted in a second five-minute major and game misconduct. In all, the third period saw the RedHawks get six penalties for 34 minutes, including the two five-minute majors for hitting from behind. sick...

Michigan has suspended freshman forward Jacob Fallon and senior defenseman Tristin Llewellyn for the rest of the season, according to a published report in the Michigan Daily.
Head coach Red Berenson said the suspensions were for “violating team expectations.”
Michigan hockey SID Matt Trevor confirmed the report to be true to USCHO Wednesday night.
“I hope he stays in school and graduates,” Berenson said of Llewellyn. “We’ll give him that support, but we can’t keep him on the team.”
Berenson also said that Fallon will have a chance to get back on the team next year, provided his behavior improves.
Last season, Fallon was suspended by the U.S. National Team Development Program and later left the NTDP for the USHL’s Indiana Ice.

Miami powerplay is really clicking. Camper and Miele are leading the nation in scoring. Would be nice to sweep in Oxford.

irish shake off the rust & dominate outclassed bowling green. definitely got a little chippy at the end. mishawaka native & freshman defenseman jared beers scored his 1st goal for notre dame. that was pretty cool!
now it's on to the evil empire at ferris and let's win there!
