Okay, I read it! Very interesting, but my stats abilities make it much easier for me to grasp the basic and the limitations of each approach, but not how best to apply the information. Some of the equations are a bit over my head.

Still, it's a very cool article. Maybe if I come back and read it a few more times, I'll get a little more each time. It's good stuff. Thanks for posting it!

Just to add to my previous comment. Work like this also highlights how far we still have to go to get a useful and objective set of fielding stats.

It also makes me wonder whether the big downdraft in ratings for many of our players were driven by an unfamiliarity with the new field. At least, I hope that is part of it.

Anyone read any work that might confirm this?
