Morning...or something like that
hahahaha, great thread title.
so 4.8M people entered ESPN's tournament bracket thing, ZERO had all 32 first-round games correct, only THREE people are tied for first with 31 of 32 correct.
that's amazing.
I gotta run out to NJ for a family day. i'll be back tonight. enjoy the lovely saturday geeks, and the games.
Squad - if you stay home tonight, i will give you the honor of getting your ass kicked at hockey.

I think DbM is a forgone conclusion.
I would like the mets to please explain what they see him as down the road. The Mets are in dire need of starting pitching. Do they see him as a closer? I wish I knew what they were doing. I wish I knew if they know what they're doing? yikes! it's so frustrating!

if they want to inject excitement around this years team by adding DbM, the better route would be to send him down to stretch him out and bring him up as a starter..when one of our reclamation projects fail

by stretch him out..i mean innings wise...not to literally stretch him out to make him be taller
just clarifying in case Mets management read that...if anyone could be THAT dumb..it'd be mets management

Starting pitching is always needed the most. I sort of hate closers and the specialization and how finicky they are anyway. The kids got the stuff and hes working on his secondary pitches and they're going to stunt his growth. It's ridiculous! If he can't develop the pitches in the minors, make him a bullpen arm but let's figure it out first!

Agree completely. Niese will start laying eggs or there will be an injury in the rotation, this is fact. It'll be great to call him up after he's had success in the minors.

I know personally I would be more willing to give Omar a shot at the long term if he exercised restraint in this situation. I hope a coup emerges and they send Mejia down

I agree, 4321. Using him in the 6th or 7th inning is a total waste. And jerry will over use him and all of baseball will laugh as the mets impose "Jenrry Rules"

as lame but inevitable "Jenrry Rules" might be it's better than letting Jer shred his arm up trying to save his job

It would have logic if Omar was making this call. But he's obviously not in charge anymore, so what is the logic behind SOF letting Omar make this call? Does he hope to keep his punching bag scapegoat around longer?
sheadenizen
03-20-2010, 02:27 PM
Future, I am so tired of trying to make sense out of anything this team does. Everything defies logic. That's what happens when the inmates are allowed to run the asylum!
Future
03-20-2010, 02:31 PM
Even if it was stupid if there was some sort of logic I could live with it. There's no reason to do this with Mejia.
But there's no reason to let SOF call the shots, keep Omar still on the payroll, or have Jerry Manuel managing the team either.

VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo doesn't like to rush pitching prospects to the big leagues. He was true to his reputation on Saturday morning, as the club sent right-handers Stephen Strasburg and Drew Storen to Minor League camp.
Both players, who were given the news by Rizzo and manager Jim Riggleman, will start the season with Double-A Harrisburg. Rizzo said both players need more seasoning before they make their first appearances in the big leagues.
"It was for the benefit of their development," Rizzo said. "They needed some time to refine their tremendous skills. Both conversations went well. Both players are competitors. They are disappointed they didn't make the club, but understood the rationale."
Strasburg, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, received the news a day after he gave up two runs in four innings and struck out eight Cardinals at Space Coast Stadium.
Though Strasburg was arguably the best pitcher in Washington's Spring Training camp, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out 12 and walking just one in nine innings over three spring starts, his success never changed Rizzo's thinking.
"I'm not a believer that a player can come from amateur baseball and step right into the Major Leagues," Rizzo said. "I've seen terrific prospects attempt it, and the failure rate is too great. This is a prized asset. We have to do what's best for the player and for the organization, long-term, and I think the best way to do it is getting some seasoning in the Minor Leagues."

...Hello Shea, I've been away for maybe, about two years.
New board. First though... I wish they didn't change. The old one was more personal; smaller note-sized posts. Easier left-right eye movement (my business website mindset). Actually, less eyestrain for any purpose.
Maybe it will grow on me. Maybe I'm missing some feature(s) that makes this better overall.
New season. The kids are my main interest. If Ike D. doesn't come North, ALL eyes will be on Daniel M. Even if he hits .300, the apparent lack of HRs for his position will probably eventually be his downfall.
It's probably just a matter of time.

Dont feel bad you sound like me with Syracuse. I thought for sure I'd be reading in todays paper "Syracuse Orangmen become first #1 seed to lose to a 16 seed". I watch them like I watch the Mets low expectations going in, then they suck me in for awhile and give me joy, then they frustrate and aggravate me until I break something, then I either wind up happy, drunk or crying. Sometimes all 3 in one night. LMAO

This has been a really good tournament. Close games all over the place, every day.ODU has now come back on Baylor; Kansas is fighting for its life. St Mary's destroyed the rest of my brackets today (not that I was surprised, after watching them on Thursday -- I saw them kill Gonzaga in the championship game, and they were pretty impressive that night). NCAA, thy name is parity (at least this year).
Last year all four number one seeds made it to the finals. Wouldn't it be funny (and fun) if this year, one of them did?
I'm rooting for St Marys as long as they're in. They should have been in the tournament last year -- they got jobbed. Even though I root for the Zags, I wasn't sorry that St Marys knocked them off this year, as the Zags were guaranteed an NCAA spot either way. And now, nobody can complain that St Marys doesn't belong there.

Re the Mets -- Maine was okay today, not great, but okay. He gave up a bunch of hits, but didn't let the Cards score after the first inning. (Of course, the Cards weren't exactly playing their A players.) Unfortunately, almost everyone else gave up runs except Green, I believe.
Another big blow for Ike. He's making it really hard for them to send him down, esp since neither Murphy nor Jacobs are exactly lighting it up. Granted, pre-season isn't supposed to mean anything, but...
Mejia did not pitch today. The radio guys were wondering what was up with that, as he was originally scheduled to pitch today. Can we hope that someone has seen the light and realized how stupid it would be to use the kid in middle relief?

Most people had Kansas.......most had them winning it all or at the very least making the final four so I'd imagine there's not alot that have it perfect.

Well, the way No Iowa was having trouble with the pressure from Kansas, he figured it was their best shot at scoring, since he was open. (He said this when he was interviewed after the game.)
It was an insane shot, and he'd've gotten lots of heat if he hadn't made it. But he did. Which makes him an all-time hero at Northern Iowa.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Cleveland Indians closer Kerry Wood could miss up to two months with a strained muscle in his upper back.
Trainer Lonnie Soloff said Wood has a moderate strain on his right side. The trainer says Wood will be out a minimum of six to eight weeks.
Wood felt sore after throwing on March 10. He wasn't concerned about the injury, but when the symptoms didn't ease, the right-hander underwent an MRI exam that revealed the problem.
The 32-year-old Wood has a history of elbow and shoulder problems and has undergone surgery on both.
While Wood is out, the Indians will use right-hander Chris Perez as their closer. Perez had one save last season after coming over in a trade from St. Louis.
