my volvo has the aux jack

the adapter is cool because you can use the radio to change playlists, but it is not "rich" in that you can't see the name of the playlist.

Yeah, the later VW's have the adapter in the glove box and the iPod controls (don't work with Zunes though). But the model I have was right before it. I had to wire the preinstalled CD changer connection (which is in the trunk) into an MP3 adapter and send it back to the front seat.

I rented a Mazda 3 when I was in California last year. The socket for the aux jack was inside the center compartment. Actually worked out will because you could easily hide your MP3 player in there and still have access to it when you needed it.

According to Cubans on MLB, Omar Minaya and the Mets will hold a private workout today for Cuban RHP Reinier Roibal, SS Adeiny Hechevarria, OF Jorge Padron and LHP Sergio Espinosa.

…the most intriguing player of the bunch, from what i’ve been told, is hechevarria, who is 19 years old, he is said to have tremendous range in the field, with potential to be like Ichiro Suzuki at the plate… the buzz around MLB suggests at least 10 teams have interest in him, and he could cost a deal similar to what Aroldis Chapman signed, i.e., $30 million for five years…

The general consensus scouting Chapman was that he needed more time in the minors and probably profiles to be a reliever instead of a starter. In other words, too much money for what he'll probably end up as.

Considering what K-Rod makes 30 million is not a ton for a left bullet thrower at the end of games if that's what he becomes.

Lunkwill Fook
03-12-2010, 11:46 AM
Sure, but K-Rod is in the majors and Chapman is probably due to start in AA. That's a lot of money for a guy that isn't going to see the majors for any serious amount of time for one to two years.

Lunkwill Fook

And the scouting I've read says, while Chapman throws a mean fastball, it's straight as an arrow. So he NEEDS to develop his secondary pitches to be successful.

Ted Berg on Alex Cora. Doesn't sound like Tejada could be worse.

“Maybe they could weather Alex Cora’s weak hitting if he could save them some runs on the field,” Berg writes in the above link.

“Or maybe he could make up for all those extra grounders he lets roll by if he knocked a few balls out of the park. None of those things is likely to happen, though. Instead, Cora will just go on being the league’s most overpaid and overplayed replacement player.”

And that type of expense, even for a high risk/unbelievable reward seems a little too rich for the Mets blood, I'd say. Too many basic holes to fill before they pay for such a luxury item.

But it would have been nice to look like geniuses for a little while. . .

“It’s not unusual to wait a few weeks for it to clear… If Reyes was not a professional athlete, and someone like you or I, it would barely interfere with our lives. Amazingly enough, Joe and Evan just had an endocrinologist on their program. And she was actually very helpful and informative. According to what's been released, it appears to her that Reyes has thyroiditis, which is a self-limiting condition normally caused by a virus. It goes away on its own, generally within a -- guess what! -- one-two month period. She said it would be unusual for it to go away in a week's time; three-four weeks is typical, but it can take as long as two months for it to normalize. Thyroiditis happens when a virus causes your thyroid to release all of its hormones into the bloodstream all at once, causing the imbalance. Since it only happens once, and the hormones have all been released, medication doesn't help and you just have to wait for it to run its course and normalize. This contrasts with chronic hyperthyroidism, which is caused by a chronic medical condition which causes the thyroid to consistently make too much hormone -- that's when medication, radiation or surgery is indicated. But that's apparently not what Reyes has (unless the Mets doctors are all idiot and got it wrong, not that this would be the first time). A normal person probably wouldn't have to alter their activities at all -- exercise does not cause the hormone levels to spike. But the hormone being in the bloodstream does cause the heart to work harder, so if the condition is ignored, you could risk palpitations, arrhythmea or (worst case scenario, but highly unlikely in a young man) a heart attack. Otoh, however, some people have symptoms and some don't, and often, with thyroiditis, which comes and goes on its own, normal people wouldn't even know they had it unless they happened to go to a doctor during the episode.

She also said it was highly unlikely that diet played a role. She said the last time diet kicked off thyroiditis was like 100 years ago, when iodine was put into hamburger meat (is that weird, or what!). She also said, when Joe asked, that HGH would not cause this.

Like I said, very informative.

Now, if only the asshats at the Daily News were listening.

I sure can't speak for the media, but no one expects much from the mets this year.....PECOTA is what 79? Over/under is 82.5...some math guru predicted 82 wins.....so if the mets win 88, I'd say they overachieved. Of course, if they lose the division or the WC on the last day or 2 of the season...then all bets are off.

Torts is more bark than bite this season. But what can you do? The potential silver lining for the off-season is that Rozsival now moves to the phase of his contract where his cap hit is more than his actual salary. In which case he could at least be traded to a team that's looking to his the salary floor. If you get him off the books (I'm realistic about Redden never coming off) and let basically all the FAs walk then there's a lot of $ to help add some scoring depth and a vet top 4 D. I've long advocated working out a deal with the Blackhawks because they're in cap hell and then going for Willie Mitchell as a steady shutdown guy that will mentor Marc Staal and can be paired with DZ or Gilroy to allow them to roam the ice freely.

Well, someone posted PECOTA stuff and you were talking about win totals for the season.

I don't know, along with the trouble scoring this year they're having trouble defending the crucial area around the crease. If they can get a deal for Patrick Sharp that helps with scoring and someone like Mitchell would help with keeping the area around the net nice and tidy. If they could get rid of two of the cap killing contracts then I'd be ok with throwing a big offer sheet to Backstrom as well.

KG:

The man who is supposed to fill in for Reyes is Alex Cora, a journeyman who hit .251/.320/.310 last year as Reyes' back-up. With that kind of line, it's only makes sense for the Mets to start considering other options. One name that is getting tossed around inside their offices is Ruben Tejada, the club's top shortstop prospect. Now the first reaction is to laugh this off as the worst idea ever (hey, it is the Mets), as we're talking about a 20 year-old who played at Double-A last year and while solid, didn't exactly light things up with a batting line of .289/.351/.381 for Binghamton. Thing is, giving Tejada the job, at least temporarily, might not be such a bad idea.

When one thinks of a Latin American shortstop (Tejada is Panamanian), the expectation is a raw athlete oozing with tools -- but Tejada is the exact opposite. He has a near-zero chance of ever being a star, but at the same time, he's one of the most fundamentally sound 20-year-olds you'll ever see. He works the count, makes consistent contact (59 strikeouts in 553 plate appearances last year), and while his range at the position is merely average, he makes the plays on the balls he gets to. Strikeouts and out-of-control fielding are the things that usually spell doom for a rookie, but Tejada has both of those bases covered, so as long as Reyes is out, why not see what the young player can do?

This wouldn't be another case of the Mets curbing the development of some high-ceiling prospect by rushing him to the majors; Tejada is pretty much all he's ever going to be right now, and he's certainly not going to be worse than Cora.

Didn't see that in the middle of all your fancy PECOTA projections.

I've long advocated working out a deal with the Blackhawks because they're in cap hell and then going for Willie Mitchell as a steady shutdown guy that will mentor Marc Staal and can be paired with DZ or Gilroy to allow them to roam the ice freely.

ah Redden

I remember when a certain poster here defending that signing.

I of course stated it was a bad signing.

Definitely wasn't me. I think one of the first couple of times I post on here I was joking with you or Dep that the Isles were going to trade their #1 pick to get Redden, given that he was initially an Isles draft pick.

Mind you, I think Brendan Witt has been as sucky as Redden.

For a team that makes so few FA signings, they need to make sure they all work. Though the % that has is pretty good.

Only after Redden was in a vulnerable position after looking for his lost 8-ball.

:Raises Hand:

Sorry, Redden was so awful that Sens fans were squealing with glee when he left. When your Sens friend calls you to say he's sorry when the contract is signed you know he was going to be bad.

I knew he would be getting paid best defenseman in the league money to be the weaker guy in a third pairing. And that's basically what he is. A third pairing defensemen. Glen Sather FTL.

Torts needs to go. Hey bad defense, no scoring. I know who to blame! Sean Avery! The guy only believes in accountability! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
