I miss him too. I do think the team will probably be very down for a few days. Just as well they were going to have a hard game to win tonight anyway.

Nice to see the Reds pick up where they left off on defense last night.

I really think the Tron deal is win-win for the Giants and Mets. The Gmen desperately need a real bat in their lineup, and Tron is the best they are gonna get. Wheeler is at least a couple years away from ML impact, and they have no shortage of arms in SF anyway.

Yeah all three runs were scored because of some dubious fielding.

Well, that game was a surprise. If ever I'd expect to see the Mets lose a game, it was this one. Arroyo who they can never beat; Pelf, who can't win on the road; and the let-down of losing Beltran.

Instead, we get a big game out of Pelf and a big game out of the hitters.

And Wright's injury seems to have done him good -- he's standing in closer to the plate for the first time in a couple of years, and seeing the ball very well. And therefore not striking out every time there's a two strike count. Let's hope he can keep it up; it would be great if he recaptured his form from two-three years ago.

opposing pitchers have forgotten to buzz him up and in and then miss the outside corners

Pelf -- Mets motivated selves by saying "let's make it to the playoffs and beat the Giants".

The thing I like is that they seemed to use the trade to get angry instead of depressed. Kind of an "us against the world" mentality: so, the FO doesn't think we're good enough to win this year? We'll show 'em.

Of course, that doesn't mean they can keep it up, but it would be nice if they could.

The Mets have signed 31 of their draft picks, including nine of their first 11 picks.

On Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post said the Mets could be close to signing Brandon Nimmo, the team’s first round draft choice in this year’s draft. Last month Jim Callis of Baseball America said Nimmo was seeking a $2.5 million contract.

Didnt matter, unfortunately. Pitt brought up a young guy to pitch after wearing everyone else out last night; came in in the 10th and couldn't get outs.

That's the real thing about why pretending there's a chance of a playoff run is so pointless...

It's not that the Mets couldn't put a little run together here or there. It's just that the Phillies and the Braves are too goddamned powerful this year.

not worried about them at this point so much, especially the braves......we still have some games with them later on...I'm more concerned with the few other teams just ahead of us within a game or 2 or 3....once we bypass them, then we can focus on the braves and get them in our crosshairs...

YGB!!!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now that the clubhouse cancer is off the team we should have no problem catching the Braves.

Willie Harris offered a familiar Mets mantra Wednesday: Ya Gotta Believe!

Harris told teammates pregame in the training room that the Mets could rally to make the playoffs, then knock out Carlos Beltran’s San Francisco Giants in October.

“I mean, how cool would that be?” Harris asked. “We trade our best hitter and then we send him home. That would be pretty cool. We keep playing good, we might sneak in there. Who knows?”

Atlanta beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in extra innings for the second straight night Wednesday, meaning the Mets trail the wild-card-leading Braves by 7½ games. The Mets are 53-51, with 58 games remaining in the regular season. (Teams have overcome that deficit in fewer games, you may recall.)

Terry Collins credited the Mets’ tenacity and resolve after they posted an 8-2 win against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night.

“There’s a lot of guys in that room that have tremendous respect for Carlos Beltran. Still do. Always will,” Collins said. “Today could have been a disappointing day for us. They just picked themselves up.”

Harris, incidentially, plans to join the Twitter world Thursday with the assistance of Justin Turner (@redturn2).

Terry Collins held Justin Turner out of Wednesday’s lineup partly because of the welt on the back of the infielder’s left hamstring, which he suffered getting drilled by a pitch from Jose Arrendondo in the series opener. But the manager also held out Turner to keep him fresh, figuring Turner may need to make his first major league start at shortstop on Thursday afternoon to allow Jose Reyes to rest.
Reyes has played every inning of the eight games since he returned from the disabled list for a hamstring strain. Collins first eyed Sunday’s day game in Miami for a day off for Reyes, then Thursday’s matinee series finale in Cincinnati. Both times, though, Reyes talked his way back into the lineup.

“I talked to Jose today,” Collins said. “I said, ‘Look, we’ve got to be very, very careful.’ And he said, ‘Look, I feel great.’ We’ll keep an eye on him and see how things go.”

Turner has played two major league innings at shortstop, last season with the Baltimore Orioles, after starter Cesar Izturis had been pulled for a pinch-hitter. Turner has played 53 minor league games at shortstop in his career.

“I’ve played some shortstop -- more with Buffalo than anywhere else,” Turner said. “I played a few games when I was in Norfolk (Triple-A/Orioles). I didn’t get to play a lot with the Reds because they had Chris Valaika and he didn’t miss very many games. I’ve played my fair share of games at short. I talked to Terry today about taking groundballs there every day just to be ready in case something like that were to happen. He mentioned something about giving Jose a day off eventually. I don’t know when that’s going to happen, because I know Jose wants to play every day.”

Collins could pull Reyes in-game in the daytime heat if the score is lopsided one way or the other Thursday. Reyes is not the only one whom Collins will closely watch.

Angel Pagan left Sunday’s game in Miami with dehydration. He returned to the starting lineup Wednesday.

“I felt great,” Pagan said. “I think the biggest test is tomorrow. It’s a 12 o’clock game. I’m going to start drinking water from now so I can be OK for tomorrow.”∆
