View Full Version : The Putz Trade...
Kind of tough to take Seattle gloating that they found use for all of the players they received and only lost Chavez via injury and eventual free agency.

Ugh! I would have been happier never seeing that. What bothers me most is the Mets knew of Putz' injury, but made the decision it wasn't a big deal.

I've thought about this trade a bit and it's not like the M's made out like gang busters. Really, the only part of the trade that was truly lopsided was the Indians/Mariners portion of the trade where the M's essentially traded a ROOGY for a gold glove caliber centerfielder. Endy did nothing for them due to injury and is gone. Can't blame Omar for Heilman because he had little value. If the Cubs gave the M's value for him, that's on them. Carp is definitely looking like a bench player at best. Basically, from the Mets point of view, the only real value the M's are going to get out of this trade are if Cleto and/or Carrera develop. Carrera looks like he MIGHT be decent but he's also looking like he just might be another slappy outfielder, 4th at best. Cleto is erratic but it's too early to tell.

I surely don't miss heilman.....shhhhh! don't tell custer, and you are right about Cleto and Carrera...too early to draw any conclusions.
But I think the bottom line is the mets wind up with nothing. Green is the biggest loser and Putz of course is long gone and contributed nothing.

No, I agree. The Mets ended up with nothing through ineffectiveness and injury. However, if Cleto and Carrera bust (which is certainly within all probability of prospects), then really the only thing the M's gained was Mike Carp on their bench. Not the end of the world.
Really, you have to wonder about Cleveland, what the gave up for Joe Smith. That's the REAL loser in this dogfight.
