The STEP camp for top prospects has started. Wally Backman is scheduled to be there. Here are the players: Kyle Allen, Eric Beaulac, Robert Carson, Jeurys Familia, Brad Holt, Armando Rodriguez, Josh Stinson, Scott Moviel, Dock Doyle, Nelfi Zapata, Lucas Duda, Wilmer Flores, Reese Havens, Jefry Marte, Jordanny Valdespin, Stefan Welch, Carlos Guzman, Juan Lagares, Cesar Puello, Sean Ratliff and Pedro Zapata.
The report date for minor-league pitchers and catchers is March 5. Postion players March 10.

My understanding is that this is for the guys they expect to move up through the organization. Players here are top prospects not expected to be in a position to sniff the big leagues this year and guys the team view as dudes with potential who could benefit from the extra instruction.
This is what I know. Basically, the mornings and the evenings are for classroom instruction. During the afternoon, the players are getting some field time and workout time. There are also team building activities going on, including one that will be featured by Rubin in a future blog post.
This is a change of pace from the days of Tony B. Guys are actually having fun.
