nothing has changed talent wise and Canada and Russia are still favorites, but the reality is that upsets happen in with a fair amount of regularity. USA was getting killed for not blowing the swiss out and it turns out they have a pretty good team. i think the americans played well enough to win their easy games and the true test will be to see how well they match up with Canada when the speed of the game picks up and the defense gets burned for every little mistake.

Yeah Gaborik got his thigh sliced by Lundqvist in practice the week before the games. He wasn't supposed to be back this soon. A lot of Rangers fans hope he isn't doing further damage by playing.

Slovakia certainly isn't a favorite and probably no one outside of Bratislava penciled them in for the gold. But they are on par with a team like Finland from 2006 and have 4 legitimate lines that can skate with anyone on any given night. Not to mention one of the best shutdown defenders in the world.

That Russia lost to them in a shootout, particularly given how the former Bloc countries are apt to play the former Motherland extremely tight, isn't nearly the cause for concern that Canada let a 2-0 lead slip away and needed a skills competition that favored them no matter how you slice it (even if I thought the Swiss had temporary advantage due to Brodeur's lack of familiarity with the Swiss shooters).

Swiss did have that upset game against Canada in 2006 and maybe there was a psychological factor in play last night but the Swiss are still several rungs below the elite nations. They haven't finished better than 6th place in the Olympics in the past 40 years and no better than 4th in the World Championships in the past 20.

I don't think Canada wins gold, they have the talent yes, but I think they bow to the homegrown pressure and the Swiss showed the rest of the tournament a formula for shutting them down. I think the US can easily play a suffocating style like the Swiss played and they have just enough firepower to successfully counterattack when needed.

Jeff Francoeur was eager to get from Atlanta to Port St. Lucie. When he left home, the temperature was 29 degrees. They received five inches of snow Friday night.

Long time no speak! I am not sure the best way to do this but I wanted to try and get back in touch with you guys because I have kind of an awesome announcement.

I know that some of you will remember me back from the original MetsGeek -- I posted under Jose Reyes - RBI Machine back then, and in the early years of MetsGeek (like 05 and 06 I think) I posted pretty frequently. Law school got in the way of all that so my participation tapered off along the way. While I was active though, I really enjoyed the MetsGeek community and all the legitimately great personalities that were there (a pretty unique community among Mets fans).

Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know that I've been blogging over at Fonzie Forever for the last couple months with a pair of my best friends from home. We work really hard on it and have posted a ton of content since we started in November.

Since I like you guys, and I value your opinions, I would really like it if you would come by from time to time and let me know what you think of what we're doing. Also, we are always on the lookout for more good/interesting writers -- so if you guys are still as amped about the Mets as you once were, and are looking for a blog-style outlet now that MetsGeek is a forum -- let me know.

but its just awesome. its 10,000x faster and smoother and a bit less confusing but more similar to vista than i thought

Yeah, basically, it's what Windows Vista should have been.

Unfortunately, they still couldn't fit in the new file system which was one of the main things they promised in Vista. But that would have caused MAJOR incompatibilities with old software.

Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn was charged Friday with battery and vandalism for allegedly attacking a photographer and breaking his camera outside Brentwood Country Mart in October, officials said.

Penn faces up to 18 months in jail if convicted of the misdemeanor charges of battery and vandalism stemming from the Oct. 2 run-in with a photographer.

The charges were filed by the L.A. city attorney's office. The incident was captured on video and broadcast on TMZ, the celebrity website.

"We are alleging he kicked a photographer and and we are also accusing him of breaking the photographer's camera," said Frank Mateljan, a city attorney spokesman.

Penn will be arraigned March 22 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
